    Warm, improved, attentive memory care

I'm very pleased with this memory-care home - the staff are genuinely kind, attentive, and go above and beyond. Under new ownership the place has been cleaned and renovated, meals and activities (especially music and therapy) have improved, and my loved one is more engaged and comfortable. Care is personalized, affordable on a fixed income, and the atmosphere feels warm and home-like; leadership has been responsive. A few rooms are small and privacy/bathroom options vary, but overall I'm grateful and would highly recommend it.

    Summary review

Overall impression: The reviews for Smyrna Village Memory Care Community present a strongly positive overall trend, particularly highlighting a recent and pronounced turnaround under new ownership and management. Most reviewers emphasize compassionate, personalized care and a family-like culture that makes residents and families feel comfortable and supported. Multiple accounts cite dramatic improvement over a two-year period — renovations, menu updates, new activity programs, and more engaged leadership — resulting in many highly satisfied family members and residents who report improved mood, engagement, and memory function.

Care quality and staff: The most consistently praised element across reviews is the staff. Caregivers, aides, and management are repeatedly described as kind, patient, attentive, and willing to go above and beyond. Several reviewers name specific leaders and owners (including Nataly and Jermaine) and credit them with hands-on involvement, rapid response, and genuine concern for residents. Daily personal care routines (bathing, hair washing, dressing) are noted as reliable, hospice support is available and appreciated, and staff-resident relationships are described as warm and familial. When discussing clinical and emotional outcomes, reviewers report residents looking healthier, more lively, and more engaged since the management changes.

Facilities and renovations: A clear pattern is that the facility has undergone tangible physical improvements. Reviewers mention redone floors, fresh paint, ultraviolet lighting upgrades, remodeled rooms, and general property upkeep. Many describe the facility as clean, comfortable, safe, and home-like after these updates. However, several reviews reference older, pre-renovation issues—dirty floors, rotted walls in shared hall bathrooms, dark bathrooms, and small rooms without private bathrooms—so the facility condition appears to have varied over time. Prospective families should verify current room configurations and bathroom arrangements during a visit, because both large, renovated rooms and smaller, more basic rooms are mentioned.

Dining and nutrition: Dining receives frequent positive remarks. Reviewers note southern home-cooked meals, an updated menu under new ownership, and nutritious offerings that satisfy residents. Food quality is often tied to the home-like atmosphere and is cited as a contributor to residents’ overall wellbeing. Reviewers also value the responsiveness of staff around special dietary needs and appreciation for the quality and variety of meals.

Activities and programming: There is a strong emphasis on cognitive and social programming. Music therapy, regular group activities, games, cognitive stimulation, and weekly events are frequently praised. Some families highlight outdoor trips, nature walks, and routine outings that contribute to residents’ engagement and enjoyment. That said, a minority of reviews—likely reflecting earlier periods or differing expectations—reported limited interaction, few activities, and a lack of outings. Overall the dominant theme is that the new programming is robust and has led to observable improvements in resident engagement.

Management, communication, and variability: Management engagement is a major selling point for many reviewers; leadership is described as responsive, involved, and communicative, with good family outreach. Yet a few negative notes remain regarding communication—reports of unanswered phones or unresponsive staff—indicating some inconsistency. Several reviews explicitly frame their praise as a turnaround: problems existed in the past, and current management has substantially improved the situation. This suggests variability over time and the importance of confirming that favorable changes are sustained.

Affordability and value: Many reviewers describe Smyrna Village as an affordable, all-inclusive option suitable for those on fixed incomes, and they appreciate the value for money given the personalized care and programs. At the same time, some note that pricing could be high for certain families, so affordability is relative and dependent on the specific room type and services needed. Families balancing budget and care needs should clarify pricing, what is included, and any potential add-on fees.

Concerns and cautions: The main concerns raised involve legacy facility issues (small rooms without private baths, past sanitation and repair problems), occasional lapses in communication, and environmental factors like nearby train noise. A few reviewers experienced problems with laundry or clothes returned dirty. Because reviews reflect conditions at different times—pre- and post-new ownership—these negative points serve as reminders to ask direct questions about current bathroom availability, room sizes, noise levels, laundry protocols, and to request a walk-through of recently renovated areas.

Recommendation for prospective families: Overall, Smyrna Village Memory Care Community is depicted as a caring, improving, and family-focused memory care provider with strong staff commitment, meaningful activity programming, nutritious meals, and recent facility upgrades. The dominant sentiment is one of gratitude and relief from families who experienced a marked positive change under the current leadership. Prospective families should schedule a visit to see current room options (private vs. shared), inspect bathrooms and common areas, observe an activity or mealtime if possible, ask about staffing ratios and communication protocols, and obtain a clear breakdown of pricing and what services are included. Given the significant improvements reported, a current in-person evaluation will best confirm that the positive trends described in recent reviews align with your loved one’s needs.

About Smyrna Village Memory Care Community

Smyrna Village Memory Care Community sits across from the Village Market in a central, walkable part of Smyrna, and it's a small, family-owned and military-owned community with a home-like feel and 38 private or semi-private rooms set up for safety and comfort, with things like wall-to-wall carpeting, window treatments, wheelchair accessible showers, kitchens or kitchenettes, and safety features such as sprinkler systems and handicap access. Staff stay on site round the clock, helping with daily needs like bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, walking or wheelchair use, medication management, and incontinence care, and they've got extra training to support folks with dementia, Alzheimer's, and other memory challenges, making it possible for residents to age in place as needs change. The whole place is set up for safety, with a gated facility and secure outdoor areas, and residents who tend to wander wear bracelets that ring alarms if they try to leave, while staff can handle behaviors like wandering, aggression, or other common issues tied to memory loss.

Care is personal since the small size means staff can know each person and work from a plan that matches their needs, and the "Active Minds" program brings Montessori-based activities and crafts that help with hand skills, independence, and self-worth, while a full-time activity director keeps a calendar packed with art, music, tabletop games, exercise classes, social outings, and live entertainment. Meals get cooked on site and served three times a day in the dining room, with vegetarian options available, plus snacks, and the housekeeping and laundry team keeps things neat and linens fresh, so residents don't have to worry about chores. They've got transportation for medical appointments and errands, as well as resident and guest parking, and even public transit is close by, with wifi in rooms and cable TV in common areas to help people feel at home.

Doctors are on call and a nurse is on site, so medical support includes diabetic care, wound care, podiatry, medication administration, therapy, psychiatric care, and hospice, with room for special needs like insulin shots or help with mobility using lifts or two-person transfers. Families get encouraged to join in with life here, sharing in social events or just visiting, while residents can join devotional services on site or off, and enjoy a garden and outdoor spaces for some sun and fresh air. The place can take residents who use wheelchairs or who have more complex care needs, and they accept long-term care insurance to help make things affordable. With affordable studio and semi-private rooms and a focus on comfort, dignity, and keeping minds active, Smyrna Village Memory Care Community works to keep older adults with memory loss safe, engaged, healthy, and connected to people who care about them.
