    Rundown facility neglect and theft

I placed my grandmother here and regret it - rundown, scarred rooms, filthy common areas and terrible customer service. Staff were unhelpful, visitation was hard to schedule, calls were endlessly transferred and voicemail was rude; there's no on-site doctor, nurses seemed uncaring, and the facility is not equipped for mental illness - my grandmother was left in a urine-soaked bed and went hungry with no breakfast or snacks until lunch. They lied about payments, promised funds that never came, contractors reported theft and I'm in a financial dispute - do not recommend.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment: The reviews provided are overwhelmingly negative and describe a facility with serious deficiencies across clinical care, staffing, environment, communication, and management. Several reviewers issue explicit warnings to avoid the facility. The pattern of complaints is consistent and severe enough to indicate systemic problems rather than isolated incidents.

Care quality and safety: A dominant theme is substandard clinical care and safety concerns. Reviewers state the facility is "not equipped to deal with mental illnesses" and that there is "no doctor on staff," which raises concerns about access to timely medical assessment and oversight. Specific instances of neglect are reported: a resident (grandmother) found in a urine-soaked bed, episodes of hunger described as "hunger pains," and being "not fed breakfast" with "no snacks until lunch." These reports point to failures in basic activities of daily living support, incontinence management, and nutritional care. Multiple notes of alleged neglect and abuse and statements that residents have been harmed further elevate the risk profile for current and prospective residents.

Staff behavior and communication: Reviewers repeatedly describe staff as uncaring or rude. Complaints include nurses who "are not caring," rude personnel, and an overall "terrible customer service" experience. Communication and administrative responsiveness are cited as problematic: scheduling visitation is described as difficult, front-desk or office staff are "unhelpful," and phone communication involves excessive call transfers and voicemail that impede timely contact. Taken together, these patterns indicate poor staff training or supervision, low accountability, and ineffective family engagement practices.

Facility environment and maintenance: Several summaries mention the physical plant as run-down and in need of cleaning and updates. Phrases such as "facility needs updating and cleaning," "rooms beaten up," "walls scarred," and "rundown" describe a facility in poor repair. Environmental neglect can contribute to infection control, resident dignity, and overall wellbeing, and these observations corroborate other care-related complaints.

Dining, activities, and daily living: While specific comments about structured activities are absent, the reviews provide troubling details about daily living care—missed meals, delayed snacks, and residents left hungry. These concrete examples suggest lapses in routine care processes (meal delivery, monitoring of food intake) and raise questions about staffing levels and meal management systems.

Management, financial, and legal concerns: Beyond clinical and operational issues, reviewers report financial conflicts and alleged theft: contractors claim they were lied to and not paid, with promises of payment unfulfilled and alleged stealing from contractors. Threats of legal action and descriptions of billing/payment disputes reflect poorly on management transparency and fiscal responsibility. These problems can indicate deeper organizational governance issues and increase the risk of broader operational failures.

Patterns and severity: The complaints cross multiple domains—clinical care, staffing demeanor, cleanliness, communication, and financial ethics—suggesting systemic problems rather than isolated incidents. The repeated use of urgent warnings ("stay away," "not recommended") and allegations of abuse and harm indicate reviewers believe the issues have significant negative consequences for residents.

Conclusion and implications: Based on the provided summaries, this facility demonstrates multiple red flags: inadequate clinical oversight (no on-site doctor, poor handling of mental health), evidence of neglect in basic care (soiled bedding, missed meals), disrespectful or unresponsive staff, a deteriorating physical environment, and management-level financial disputes including alleged theft. Prospective residents and families should exercise caution, seek independent inspections, request up-to-date staffing and licensing information, ask for documented incident reports and corrective action plans, and consider alternative facilities with documented clinical leadership and stronger communication and financial practices. If allegations of abuse, neglect, or theft are accurate, they warrant immediate reporting to appropriate regulatory authorities for investigation.

    About Brown's Health and Rehabilitation

Brown’s Health & Rehab Center is a small, for-profit facility that offers both short-term rehabilitation and long-term care services. With a capacity of 63 beds, the center participates in both Medicare and Medicaid programs, serving seniors and individuals in need of skilled nursing and rehabilitative care. Brown’s Health & Rehab Center is corporately owned and operates independently, not as part of a larger continuing care retirement community. Its setting is designed to support a range of needs, from medical assistance and post-acute care to daily living activities and general wellness.

The center offers a variety of services to support recovery and everyday living. Residents who come for short-term rehabilitation at Brown’s Health & Rehab Center include those recovering from hospital stays related to stroke, heart attack, infection, or injury, and the facility emphasizes post-acute care for these individuals. For long-term residents, the center provides ongoing assistance with both medical and non-medical needs, such as medication administration, dressing, eating, and bathroom activities. Staffing levels average about three hours and two minutes of nurse care per resident each day.

The quality of care at Brown’s Health & Rehab Center is reflected in its ratings for both short-term rehabilitation and long-term care. In terms of resident outcomes, a proportion of those admitted for short-term stays are able to return home after their discharge, while others receive extended support within the community. The center makes efforts to create a comfortable and homelike environment that respects residents’ preferences and goals for care, working to maintain abilities such as mobility, self-care, and overall independence where possible. Preventative healthcare measures, such as annual influenza vaccinations, are widely administered among residents.

Health and safety are important aspects at Brown’s Health & Rehab Center. The facility undergoes regular health, fire, and safety inspections as a part of its ongoing operations. To meet residents’ needs comprehensively, the center develops individualized care plans, revised and overseen by a team of healthcare professionals. Monitoring and prevention of issues like falls, medication errors, and infections are part of the routine practices at the center. Nurse staffing remains consistent, although there are noted differences in coverage between weekdays and weekends.

Brown’s Health & Rehab Center seeks to provide a secure and attentive environment for its residents, managing both daily support and specialized rehabilitation. The focus remains on facilitating recovery, enhancing comfort, and promoting residents’ dignity and well-being through personalized support and a dedicated team. The atmosphere is intended to support not only medical needs but also the day-to-day quality of life for every resident who calls the center home.
