    Compassionate staff, clean facility, cautious

I placed my mom here and we were blessed by exceptionally compassionate, family-oriented staff who genuinely went above and beyond and kept in touch after her passing. The facility is clean, home-like and recently renovated, with spacious rooms (walk-in showers, mini-kitchen), lovely mountain grounds, regular activities and generally good home-cooked meals. Management has improved but there have been mixed reports about past staffing and memory-care issues, so I recommend touring and asking about current leadership and wound/palliative care policies before deciding.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews for Traces of Tiger Retirement is largely positive but with notable variability. The most consistent praise centers on the staff and the facility environment: many reviewers describe the staff as friendly, caring, attentive, and willing to go above and beyond. Multiple reports emphasize a home-like atmosphere with seasonal decorations, plant-filled areas, bay windows, and staff who treat residents like family. Cleanliness and upkeep are commonly mentioned, and many residents and families appreciate spacious private rooms or two-level apartment options that include large closets, walk-in showers, mini-kitchens or microwaves, and TV hookups. Renovated and beautifully decorated common areas, along with a warm interior palette, contribute to an inviting feel noted by several reviewers.

Amenities and services receive frequent positive comments. The community offers a range of amenities—hot tub, library, large recreation room, sun rooms, and substantial outdoor space—which reviewers found attractive. Activity programming is regularly highlighted: Bingo, weekly church services, arts and crafts, exercise opportunities, entertainment, and seasonal/community events (Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations) are mentioned repeatedly. Practical services also stand out, including transportation or shuttle services to appointments and the senior center, coordination with home health agencies, on-site skilled nursing and therapy options, and 24/7 staff availability in many cases. Several reviewers specifically praised memory-care staff as compassionate and supportive during difficult times.

Dining and food quality receive mixed but generally favorable feedback. Many reviewers praise the food as home-cooked and better than expected, with compliments to the cooks and mention of plentiful desserts. However, a minority of reviews describe meals as skimpy or not sufficiently nourishing, and some note occasional dishes they did not like. The dining area itself is often described positively—larger, plant-filled, and homey—though one or two reviewers pointed out the absence of tablecloths.

Despite strong positives, there are important concerns and patterns of inconsistent experiences. Several reviews recount serious lapses in care: preventable bedsores, delayed physician/palliative responses, and at least one review describing an antibiotic-related incident that caused significant family distress (including mention of considering an involuntary hold). Staffing shortages are noted in several summaries and can affect activity levels and perceived care availability. Management stability appears to be a critical variable: multiple reviewers praise long-standing, family-owned ownership and hands-on, skilled management, while others report a downturn in quality after a director and some good staff left, describing poor management or unprofessional conduct. Memory care placement is another area of inconsistency—some families report excellent Alzheimer’s care and compassion, while others are concerned that memory-care residents are mixed with the general population or that care decisions there caused grief.

Physical facility strengths are clear (spacious rooms, accessibility features, pleasant grounds), but reviewers also point out unevenness: some public areas were described as drab or outdated despite renovations in other sections, and a few minor maintenance items—such as grass height—were mentioned. Location is a benefit for some (mountain setting, beautiful grounds) and a drawback for others (too far for visiting families). A small number of reviewers reported moving loved ones out due to poor care, indicating that while many families are highly satisfied and would strongly recommend the community, there are instances of serious problems.

In summary, Traces of Tiger Retirement appears to offer a warm, home-like environment with strong amenities, an active program of events, and many compassionate, attentive staff members. Many families trust the community for skilled nursing coordination and appreciate the physical accommodations and cleanliness. However, there is a clear pattern of variability tied to management stability, staffing levels, and certain care incidents; these create a mix of glowing recommendations alongside a few reports of significant care failures. Prospective families should weigh the broadly positive reports about staff, facilities, and programming against the documented inconsistencies in management and medical-care outcomes when considering this community.
