Heart of Georgia Developmental Disabilities Ministries, Inc. (Heart of Georgia DDM) is a devoted organization based in Central Georgia that provides a loving and holistic Christian home for adults with developmental disabilities. Established in 2004, Heart of Georgia DDM was organized in direct response to the growing need within the community for supportive, long-term residential environments tailored to individuals with developmental challenges. The ministry’s primary goal is to create a nurturing, family-oriented atmosphere where residents are given every opportunity to achieve the highest possible level of independent living according to their unique abilities.
At the core of the Heart of Georgia DDM philosophy is the belief that adults with developmental disabilities can best reach their potential while living as part of an everyday community. The ministry offers individualized assistance through a devoted staff, fostering an environment in which residents receive both training and support to enhance daily living skills. Currently, the home is proud to serve five residents and is looking to welcome another female resident into its community, cared for by five dedicated staff members. The staff works tirelessly to ensure that each person receives attention and guidance in areas such as personal care, communication, budgeting, banking, shopping, laundry, meal planning and preparation, housekeeping, and participating in social and recreational activities. There is a strong emphasis on creating opportunities for residents to attend and worship at a local church, further integrating spiritual growth and fellowship into daily life.
Volunteers are considered to be an essential part of the ministry, offering additional support and interaction that enriches the lives of everyone involved. The organization also strives to educate the broader community about the unique needs and remarkable abilities of adults with developmental disabilities, promoting a positive public attitude and nurturing long-term community support. Fundraising is an ongoing aspect, with efforts directed at maintaining operations and continually improving the homes provided by the ministry, ensuring that facilities remain comfortable, inviting, and well-furnished for current and future residents.
Residents at Heart of Georgia DDM are encouraged to engage in the world beyond their home as well. Many participate in day services at local centers for people with developmental disabilities, while others hold regular jobs, working competitively and earning wages—further developing independence and self-sufficiency. The ministry’s commitment to holistic care is further reflected in its emphasis on genuine relationships, community engagement, and opportunities for personal development.
