    Caring clean facility, highly recommended

I placed my mom in this secured, elegant facility and have been very pleased - beautiful, roomy rooms (you can bring your own furniture), spacious common areas, lovely grounds, and everything very clean and welcoming. The staff are caring and accommodating - Nancy and Makayla were amazing - they treated my mom like family, gave extra time to involve her, provided personalized care, customizable meals, engaging activities, outings and Skype so family can stay connected. Turnover is low, residents clearly have fun, and the deposit/private-pay terms are transparent (12-18 months private pay then Medicaid, refundable deposit). My only caveats: one reported concern about end-of-life care/pain-meds refusal involving a staff member, and I wish there were more staff-provided rides. Overall I highly recommend this facility.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment: Reviews of The Cottages Assisted Living & Memory Care—Mountain Home are strongly positive across multiple dimensions. Families and residents repeatedly describe the campus as elegant, beautifully maintained, and inviting. The building and grounds receive consistent praise for cleanliness, pleasant smells, and appealing communal areas. Many reviewers highlight a positive first impression and offer clear recommendations for both assisted living and memory care.

Facilities and living spaces: The property is described as spacious and well-appointed. Resident rooms are repeatedly called roomy and comfortable, with several reviewers appreciating the facility's encouragement for residents to bring their own furniture, which supports personalization and a home-like feel. Common spaces are sizable and thoughtfully equipped — reviewers specifically mention a family room with a piano and a hair styling station, contributing to normal daily routines and opportunities for social interaction. The facility is also noted as secured, which reviewers felt appropriate for memory care residents.

Staff and care quality: Staffing emerges as the most frequently praised element. Multiple reviews call the staff incredible, caring, and deeply involved, often using family-like language to describe the relationships between caregivers and residents. Reviewers name leadership and staff (notably Nancy and staff members Kayla/Makayla) as being particularly responsive and effective. Long staff tenure and low turnover are cited, which families interpret as continuity of care and a stable environment. Many comments point to staff who act as resident advocates, provide individualized attention, and take extra time to involve residents in activities and care decisions.

Activities, social life, and technology: Activity programming receives positive mentions for variety and personalization. Reviewers describe a range of outings (both local and day trips), exercise classes, games, and one-on-one or individualized activities that keep residents engaged. Technology use such as Skype conferencing is specifically noted as a helpful tool for maintaining family connections. A few reviewers wished for increased transportation options, indicating a desire for more frequent rides or off-campus excursions.

Dining and services: Meals are described as appealing, and the staff are reported to be accommodating with customizable meal options. The overall impression is that dining services are pleasant and contribute to the welcoming atmosphere. Additional services like hair styling in common spaces are highlighted as enhancing resident dignity and routine.

Administration, policies, and finances: Several reviews mention administrative transparency and open communication, highlighting staff accessibility and clear resident advocacy. A recurring practical note is the facility’s payment structure: reviewers indicate residents often privately pay for roughly 12–18 months before transitioning to Medicaid, and there is a fully refundable room deposit. These financial details were presented factually by reviewers and may be important for potential residents and families when planning transitions.

Notable concerns and negative feedback: Negative comments are relatively uncommon but important. One isolated—but significant—report describes a refusal of pain medication during an end-of-life situation, naming a staff member (Amber) in that context; this reviewer expressed serious concerns about end-of-life care. Because most other reviews emphasize compassionate, attentive staff, this appears to be a rare but severe complaint rather than a repeated pattern. Another recurring minor concern is a desire for more transportation or rides; a few families explicitly wished for more frequent outings or ride availability. Lastly, the private-pay period before Medicaid (12–18 months) may be seen as a constraint depending on a family's financial situation.

Overall assessment: The dominant themes across reviews are high-quality, personalized care delivered in an attractive, clean, and secure environment with a warm, family-like culture. Staff dedication and low turnover, thoughtful programming, and attention to resident preferences (furniture, meals, activities) stand out as major strengths. Prospective residents and families should weigh these consistently positive experiences against the isolated but serious complaint regarding pain management at end-of-life and consider transportation needs and the facility’s payment timeline when planning. On balance, reviewers overwhelmingly recommend The Cottages for both assisted living and memory care based on the quality of staff, environment, and programming.

About The Cottages Assisted Living & Memory Care-Mountain Home

The Cottages Assisted Living & Memory Care-Mountain Home sits in a quiet area off 5th West Street in Mountain Home, Idaho, and has cared for seniors since 2001. The place runs smaller, home-like communities where caregivers and residents get to know each other well, and you'll find both private and shared suites that are fully furnished. The team, including caregivers specially trained for Alzheimer's and other dementias, works around the clock to offer help with daily things like dressing, bathing, and medication. They do assisted living, memory care, respite care, and even daycare, so families can find help for all kinds of needs, and caregivers can help with bigger jobs like two-person transfers and diabetic care. There's always someone awake all night, and they've got both mobility aids and non-ambulatory care options for folks who need them, and they'll watch over medications if you pay a little extra.

Residents get three home-cooked meals every day, with special menus for different health problems like diabetes or allergies, and there's a dining room for eating together. Amenities include carpeting, cable TV, Wi-Fi, social spaces, daily snacks, and a chef, plus comforts like a hairdresser, laundry, housekeeping, maintenance, and even move-in help. Throughout the week, there's always something going on-gardening, movie nights, music, computer classes, art and pet therapy, board games, and group walks, with activity staff running everything. Some homes offer special features like gardens, the Fox Den Homes Bannock House community in Boise for comparison, a fitness room, a hot tub, and maybe even a steam room, depending on where you are. They have a book room, recreation spaces, and plenty of outdoor space, so there's no shortage of spots to sit and enjoy the air.

Transportation's available for errands, doctor appointments, and faith services, and caregivers can help with everything from getting out of bed to using the restroom, and can make arrangements for extra therapy services if needed. The community's been recognized with "Best of Senior Living" and "Best Activities in Senior Living" awards by A Place For Mom. They accept up to 16 residents in each home, so things stay quiet and more personal, and Executive Director Nancy Flores brings years of activity and care experience to the group. Prices for studio living start around $8,500 per month. The focus stays on kindness and support, making sure seniors and their families always feel cared for and valued, and there's a special attention to finding purpose and joy in everyday life, whether that means having a meal together, out in the garden, or just visiting with friends.
