    Friendly staff, cozy apartments, recommended

I toured the facility and placed a loved one there. Staff were consistently friendly and helpful - move-in assistance, care coordination and a hospital liaison made transitions easy. Cozy apartment, good meals/meal plans, on-site salon with a skilled beautician, lots of activities (field trips, yoga) and a guest suite. Very professional and experienced - a solid choice; I recommend a tour.

    Summary of reviews

Overall sentiment in the review summaries is strongly positive. Multiple reviewers emphasize the professionalism and helpfulness of the staff, noting specific services such as move-in assistance, hospital liaison work, and ongoing care coordination. The staff repeatedly appears as a core strength—described as friendly, experienced, and doing a "really good job"—and reviewers recommend prospective families to tour the community, which underscores confidence in the caregiving team and operations.

Care quality and coordination are highlighted in concrete ways: reviewers mention the facility's ability to assist with transitions (move-in and hospital liaisons) and to coordinate care. One review explicitly calls the staff "experienced" and "one of the best," and others state that a loved one was well cared for. These comments point to reliable day-to-day caregiving and administrative follow-through that families commonly value when selecting assisted living.

Facilities and apartments receive favorable comments: the living spaces are described as cozy and resident feedback includes statements like "resident happy" and "they have everything." The community also offers convenient on-site services that add to quality of life, notably an on-site beauty salon staffed by a skilled beautician. The availability of a guest suite and week-long or short-term stay options is repeatedly mentioned, which indicates flexibility for respite stays or trial stays before committing to long-term residency.

Dining is a clearly emphasized positive. Multiple summaries praise the food—some calling it "fantastic"—and note that meal plans are available. Reviewers report residents are "eating better," which suggests menus and meal service meet resident preferences and nutritional needs. Positive dining experiences combined with meal plan options are important retention factors and appear to be a competitive strength for this community.

Activities and programming are another consistent theme: reviewers report a variety of activities including field trips and yoga classes, and generally describe the social environment as active and engaging. Frequent mention of many activities and specific examples implies a robust calendar that supports physical, social, and mental well-being for residents.

Management and overall professionalism are presented positively. Phrases like "very professional" and multiple comments that staff are "helpful" or "friendly" support an impression of competent leadership and well-run operations. Several reviewers highlight the staff's willingness to assist and the ease of the move-in process, which often reflects clear policies and proactive management.

Notable concerns are limited but worth attention. The primary negative comment across the summaries is that the facility felt "too big" for one reviewer’s blind mother, indicating that the size or layout can be overwhelming for residents with visual impairments or those who prefer a smaller-scale environment. This single comment suggests a potential need for more visible orientation aids, additional staff escorting for those with low vision, or clearer wayfinding and smaller-community features for residents who find larger campuses challenging.

In conclusion, the aggregated reviews paint The Highlands Assisted Living as a well-regarded community with strong, experienced staff; good care coordination; comfortable apartments; excellent dining; plentiful activities; and useful on-site services (including salon and guest suites). Most feedback is strongly positive, with repeat mentions of staff helpfulness and resident satisfaction. The only specific concern raised relates to campus scale for residents with visual impairment, which management could address with targeted accessibility and orientation measures. Overall, reviewers recommend touring the community and many indicate they would entrust a loved one to The Highlands based on the experiences summarized here.

    About The Highlands Assisted Living

The Highlands Assisted Living sits on a 40-acre campus and can serve up to 55 residents, so people find plenty of room to walk inside and outside, especially in the courtyards and along the walking paths, or in large activity spaces with music and community conversations that fill the lively halls, where natural light pours in through skylights and tall windows, making it feel open and bright most days. This place belongs to Presbyterian Homes and is part of their continuum of care, which folks sometimes call a Life Plan Community, since they provide several kinds of care all in one place, including Independent Living, Assisted Living, Memory Care, Skilled Nursing, Rehabilitation, Respite Care, Home Health Care, Adult Day Services, and even Hospice Care, so when someone's needs change, staff can help without making them move somewhere else. Staff at The Highlands help with daily needs like dressing and bathing, provide 24-hour help with activities of daily living, and assist with things like blood sugar management and diabetic care, while also being trained for memory care and issues that come with wandering or aggression, so even people with dementia or Alzheimer's have a secure, familiar place to stay.

Therapists visit to provide physical therapy and speech therapy, and there's special support for rehabilitation, whether someone needs short or long-term help. Residents can also sign up for Club 1904, which puts them on a priority waitlist and lets people choose their room size or get extras like meals, happy hours, help with relocation, real estate assessments, advance access to rehabilitation, wellness classes, and use of the fitness center, which is next to an indoor pool known as the Kimble Fitness Center where folks can join classes or just relax. Meals come prepared with nutritious options for special diets, including vegetarian and Kosher, and everyone can eat in a restaurant-style dining room, or join in community activities, outings, and special events, which run throughout the week.

The Highlands has apartment-style living for both independent and assisted living residents, with features like housekeeping, laundry service, maintenance, linen service, wheelchair accessible showers, and safety features such as medical alert systems, home security, medication dispensers, and guidance from a senior safety guide or medical alert system guide. Residents don't pay extra for transportation because complimentary rides come with the stay, whether it's for errands or getting to community-sponsored activities, and there's even scheduled non-medical transportation.

There are both outdoor spaces and charming courtyards with private seating, so if someone wants fresh air or a quiet spot, it's not hard to find. Religious services happen in the onsite chapel, and the community welcomes people 55 and older. Residents can choose independent or assisted living, and anyone who needs more help can move to skilled nursing or access memory care with staff experts. Care plans fit each person's needs, no matter where they are in their health journey, so families often feel relieved knowing support will keep up as care needs change. The Highlands Assisted Living covers basics like prepared meals (one or two a day), companionship, safety, and health management, but it also gives people choices to stay active, social, and as independent as possible for as long as they want to call it home.
