    Clean, caring staff; pleasant dining

My grandfather stayed here and we were very pleased. Clean, clutter-free facility with a pleasant lobby smell and tidy, personalized rooms; compassionate, attentive nursing, therapy and social work staff who respond quickly to call buttons; pleasant dining and good food-overall a very positive stay.

    Summary of reviews

The reviews describe a facility with clear strengths in staff compassion, therapy services, and many aspects of the physical environment, alongside a subset of serious operational concerns. Positive feedback centers on caregiving personnelโ€”several reviewers praised kind, hardworking nursing and caregiving teams and highlighted an effective social-work staff. Therapy and rehabilitation services receive consistent positive mention. Common areas and resident rooms are often described as tidy and pleasant, with a generally agreeable dining atmosphere and a variety of menu choices that many residents found acceptable.

At the same time, several reviewers described incidents that point to gaps in clinical monitoring, emergency response, and medication oversight. Examples include acute respiratory events requiring ambulance transfer and alleged medication errors; these accounts suggest inconsistent implementation of safety protocols and follow-up monitoring. Reviewers also expressed concerns about possible over-sedation or insufficient monitoring of medication effects. These items, while not uniformly reported, indicate areas that warrant close attention from families and regulators given their potential impact on resident safety.

Housekeeping and supply management show a mixed picture. While many reviewers noted clean lobbies, uncluttered hallways, and well-kept rooms, others raised sanitation concerns and inconsistent cleaning frequency in some areas. There are also reports of shortages of basic resident supplies. Together these suggest variability in housekeeping schedules and inventory controls rather than uniformly poor facility condition.

Dining is generally viewed positively in terms of atmosphere and variety, and some families reported good intake and satisfaction with meals. However, there are also reports indicating problems with meal suitability for residents with specific dietary needs (for example, inappropriate sweets for residents with diabetes), suggesting gaps in dietetic oversight or meal-planning consistency for clinical diets.

Staff performance appears uneven: many reviewers describe respectful, attentive caregivers, while others describe limited responsiveness and communication difficulties with staff. Some comments reference a perceived decline in certain operational standards after the COVID-era, pointing to potential lingering staffing or process challenges. Access to communication with family members was also noted as limited in some accounts, which can affect family involvement and oversight.

Overall impression and guidance: Mt Vernon Countryside Manor demonstrates notable strengths in compassionate caregiving, therapy/rehabilitation, and many aspects of facility upkeep. However, reviewers raise credible concerns about clinical-monitoring consistency, medication management, housekeeping regularity, dietary management for clinical needs, and resident-family communication. Prospective residents and families should weigh the facilityโ€™s rehabilitative and social-work strengths against these operational risks. Recommended due diligence includes asking about staffing levels, emergency-response protocols, medication reconciliation and oversight processes, dietary accommodation procedures, housekeeping schedules and audits, and how family communication and phone access are supported.

    About Mt Vernon Countryside Manor

Mt Vernon Countryside Manor is a for-profit nursing home owned fully by Stephen Miller and affiliated with Palladian Healthcare, and it's been around for a while, servicing an average of 78 residents each day with 91 certified beds, and the place's got a lower nurse turnover rate of 39.1% than the state average, though the nurse staffing ratio sits a bit lower at 2.86 hours per resident per day, less than the state's 3.4 average, and when you poke through the inspection records, you'll find there've been 25 total deficiencies listed, including one where they didn't provide enough food and fluids resulting in real harm, even if it wasn't immediately dangerous, and there's another infection-related deficiency where they didn't have a full infection control program, though that issue hadn't yet caused actual harm, but could've if left unaddressed. The facility provides both long-term care and short-term rehabilitation services, and brings in registered nurses, therapists, dietitians, and activity directors to care for residents, and they've got a mix of skilled nursing, dietary supervision, prescription feeding services, intravenous and respiratory therapy, plus physical, occupational, and speech therapy, making them able to help with daily tasks like dressing, moving around, or bathing, even helping with medication and planning for going home. Mt Vernon Countryside Manor has specialized facilities, runs regular recreational and social activities like bingo, crafts, socials, musical performances, church services, exercise groups, games, and outings, and tries to involve the local community with clubs and church groups, while also encouraging family involvement, with an enthusiastic activity staff and a Resident Council meeting every month so residents have a say in things. The place features fully furnished rooms that can be filled with personal items, with private room options for an extra fee, and there's an on-site barber and beauty shop for regular haircuts and grooming. Meals are served in a dining room with pretty nice touches like china, linen, and tableside service by courteous staff, and room service is available if needed, and the menus come from registered dietitians who take special diets and preferences into account. The staff goes through lots of training and stays up-to-date with care, and they try to make the building feel safe and comfortable with renovations and technology, and they belong to the Midland Pioneer Coalition for Culture Change, focusing on a person-centered approach, making efforts to include residents in choices about their health and activities. Laundry and housekeeping services are included, and dental, optometry, and podiatry care are all available. The manor stays active on social media, putting out an informational newsletter and a calendar, so folks can know what's going on. The care philosophy aims to be compassionate and responsive, with an emphasis on meeting both short-term rehab and long-term needs, but anyone considering a move ought to also look at inspection history and ask about food and infection prevention efforts given those recorded deficiencies.
