    Seamless compassionate care, spotless facility

I had a very positive experience at Century Villa: Regina and Corrine made the transition seamless, therapy and nursing staff were compassionate and effective, communication was excellent, the facility was spotless and home-like, and the food and grounds were lovely. I'd gladly recommend them for rehab or long-term care and would return-very strong care with only minor room for improvement.

    Summary of reviews

Century Villa Health Care & Rehabilitation receives consistent praise for its frontline caregiving, therapy services, dining, and physical environment. Reviewers emphasize compassionate nursing and aide staff, strong physical and occupational therapy outcomes, and an inviting, home-like atmosphere. Admissions and social-work personnel are frequently described as helpful and communicative, and several families highlighted specific staff members who provided smooth transitions from hospital to facility. The facility's grounds, terraces, and interior upkeep are noted as pleasant and well-maintained, and infection-control practices during the pandemic were viewed as effective.

Clinical care and staff culture are commonly cited strengths. Nursing, therapy, dietary, and administrative teams are described as professional, engaged, and family-oriented. Therapy sessions were often characterized as encouraging and meaningful, with measurable improvements reported by families. Dining receives favorable comments for taste and presentation, and activities programming is described as thoughtfully planned and socially engaging, contributing to a home-like daily experience for residents.

Notable operational concerns emerge in several areas. Staffing consistency is an ongoing theme: reviewers describe times when staff levels appeared insufficient, which affected response times to resident needs. Relatedly, there is variability in off-site or on-site medical-provider performance (physicians and nurse practitioners), which some families found inconsistent with the otherwise strong care team. Communication gaps are also noted, particularly around acute clinical changes and care transitions; a few accounts reference delayed notification of clinical events and medication-reconciliation issues during hospital-to-facility transfers.

Other recurring patterns include admissions and privacy practices. A small number of accounts describe restrictive intake decisions tied to age or acuity, suggesting admissions-policy limitations that prospective families should clarify. There are also occasional privacy-management inconsistencies during visits (for example, staff positioning that affected family privacy). Finally, some reviewers expressed concern that a management change shifted priorities toward financial considerations, and there are isolated concerns following a resident's death about acknowledgement and family communication; these reflect perceived cultural changes rather than documented clinical deficiencies.

Overall, Century Villa presents as a facility with strong therapeutic and daily-care strengths, a clean and comfortable environment, and an attentive frontline staff. Prospective residents and families should weigh these strengths against the operational traits noted above. Recommended questions for a tour or intake conversation include current staffing ratios and contingency plans, on-site medical/provider coverage, medication-reconciliation procedures for hospital discharges, admissions criteria related to age and acuity, privacy practices during visits, and how leadership communicates with families about significant clinical events and end-of-life processes.

About Century Villa Health Care & Rehabilitation

Century Villa Health Care & Rehabilitation, found in Howard County and run by Century Villa Health Care since 1987, is a non-profit health care and rehabilitation center that's also a continuing care retirement community, and it's got a pretty steady occupancy at around 74%, which shows folks come and stay a while, and with an overall grade of B-minus, it sits firmly in the middle range, neither perfect nor poor. The community is certified for Medicare and Medicaid, so many seniors can access services here, and they provide long-term care, independent living, assisted living, and skilled nursing with 24-hour care. The facility's had good inspection scores, most recently earning A grades, so you can see they've kept standards up over the years.

Century Villa's team includes registered nurses, LPNs, CNAs, and professional therapists, and you can find medical staff, specialists, and a wide group of people working together, including an executive director named Michael Gerig and a community liaison named Regina Downing, to deliver care that suits each resident's needs, whether short-term after surgery or for longer stays. Folks talk about the therapy team being helpful and the physical therapy getting good reviews, with a focus on helping people recover after hip or knee replacements, strokes, or injuries, providing joint mobilization, wound care, and exercises for better walking or balance. Workers also help with diabetes management, cardiac therapy, pain management, and lymphedema care, and you'll see respiratory therapy, nutritional counseling, speech and memory activities, and special units for different health needs, including bariatric and orthopedic rehab.

Century Villa has newly renovated short-term rehab suites, all with flat-screen TVs, phones, and daily newspapers, and if you need outpatient therapy, they do that too, like occupational, speech, and physical therapy, always aiming for residents to regain as much independence as possible through personalized plans. The place does a good job having a family council for loved ones to stay involved, though there isn't a resident council right now. Connected with the Century Fields Retirement Community, Century Villa Health Care & Rehabilitation runs as a licensed and certified center with a commitment to giving comprehensive care, and it supports long-term health in a welcoming way that doesn't feel high-pressure. Seniors get services like medical alert systems, regular housekeeping, dining, private and group eating rooms, beauty salons, a barbershop, a gift shop, daily activities, and even transportation for outings or appointments.

Those needing rehabilitation or help after surgery or illness can expect to find support to restore health and work on getting back as much mobility and independence as possible, and with decades of experience in Howard County, Century Villa Health Care & Rehabilitation keeps focused on straightforward care, respect, and giving residents tools to live as well as they can, whatever their health level.
