    Renovated community with caring staff

I moved into a recently renovated, conveniently located community and I'm very pleased - the staff are friendly, knowledgeable and caring. My roomy two-bedroom, two-bath apartment with bay windows and large walk-in closets feels like home; there's a large lobby and family room for socializing, on-site garages and laundry, menu ordering with pretty good food, and activities like bingo, church group and Bible study.

    Summary of reviews

Good Samaritan Society - Ellsworth Village presents a mix of appreciable physical amenities and service-level concerns. On the positive side, the property has been recently renovated and contains well-sized apartments (including two-bedroom, two-bath layouts) with large walk-in closets and bay-windowed rooms. Common spacesโ€”such as a sizeable lobby for socializing, a family room for gatherings, on-site garages, and an accessible laundry serviceโ€”are frequently described as attractive and functional. The campus also offers multiple living models (independent units, assisted living, and cottages) and visible touches in common areas (for example, birds in a cage) that contribute to a residential atmosphere.

Staff impressions are mixed but include numerous comments describing employees as friendly, knowledgeable, and caring; these strengths appear to support positive social interaction in public areas and during scheduled events. At the same time, a pattern of operational concerns emerges in more clinical aspects of care. Several comments point to inconsistent care quality between shifts or units and to inadequate night-time staffing or responsiveness, which families should view as a potential risk factor when evaluating level-of-care needs. There are also specific concerns about irregular personal-care scheduling (including bathing and hygiene assistance) and about medication administration processes. The word "allegations" is used here sparingly to reflect that some feedback included serious medication-management concerns that merit verification with facility leadership and regulatory records.

Dining and activities show variability. The dining room model that allows menu ordering and the reports of generally acceptable to good food are positives; however, other accounts describe less palatable meals in some care areas. Activity offerings such as bingo, church groups, and Bible study are present and provide social and spiritual engagement, but there are also reports of limited or inconsistently implemented programming and of staff attention being directed to nonresident tasks rather than resident engagement at times.

Taken together, the pattern suggests a facility with solid physical infrastructure and important interpersonal strengths, but with operational inconsistencies that affect clinical care, night coverage, personal-care routines, medication management, and some programming. Prospective residents and families should consider touring multiple parts of the campus at different times (including evenings and weekends), request staffing ratios and night-coverage policies, ask about medication-administration protocols and oversight, sample meals, and review the activity schedule and attendance. Those steps can help clarify whether the facilityโ€™s strengths align with an individualโ€™s care priorities and whether identified operational gaps have been addressed by management.

About Good Samaritan Society - Ellsworth Village

Good Samaritan Society - Ellsworth Village sits out in the peaceful Smoky Hills of central Kansas, right at 1156 Highway 14 in Ellsworth, and serves as a skilled nursing facility run by the well-known Good Samaritan Society. Folks can find dementia and Alzheimer's care, long-term care, and short-term rehabilitation services here, and there's a reputation for helping with recovery and well-being. Residents get access to skilled nursing care day and night, and staff are available 24 hours for emergencies. The place handles speech, occupational, and physical therapy, both for rehab and general support, and helps with tasks like insulin monitoring, moving between bed and wheelchair, and meal support, which is important for those who need more attention. The community accepts payment through private pay, social security, veteran's benefits, and private insurance. Residents can choose from different rooms such as studios, one-bedroom, semi-private, and two-bedroom options, and there are fees that change based on the level of care needed, with some extra fees for additional services or a second person. There are both assisted living and independent living apartments, along with nursing home care and senior apartments, meaning a variety of folks with different needs find support here. There's a mix of services, like adult day care, rehabilitation, home health, and general counseling, and the place stays connected with others through referral partner networks and caregiver support programs, including respite care for those who help care for loved ones. People can spend time in common indoor areas set up for socializing, and activities keep residents active. The grounds and buildings provide a welcoming atmosphere, and the environment supports healing, engagement, and a sense of community spirit. Staff speak English, and there's an emphasis on serving the whole person-body, mind, and spirit. The facility is associated with the Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society and is known locally as Ellsworth Village. Amenities are what someone would expect in a modern skilled nursing facility, though specific details aren't listed. The whole place aims to provide quality service, compassion, and a safe place for older adults in Ellsworth and the surrounding community, helping people live their later years with dignity, support, and as much independence as possible.
