    About Linn Community Nursing Home

Linn Community Nursing Home sits on the edge of Linn, Kansas, surrounded by farmland, and has been caring for locals since 1974 with a focus on creating a homelike place where folks can decorate their own rooms and keep in touch with family, friends, and even pets, since visits are always welcome. The place is community-owned, run by a board from local churches and the Linn Booster Club, and operates as a non-profit, so it tends to reflect the values of the area and its residents. There are 52 Medicare-certified beds, with both private and semi-private rooms, plus six independent living apartments and even an on-site daycare for children, so you'll find a mixed environment of older adults and little ones at times. The staff handle a range of care needs, including skilled nursing, memory care, rehabilitation, palliative, and respite services, with therapy options like physical, occupational, and speech therapy to help with strength, mobility, and communication challenges, as well as personalized plans for eating or swallowing. There's a Rehab to Home program for folks looking to get back to more independent living, since staff help set goals, run daily therapies, and work with family or at-home caregivers on planning for when someone leaves.

Everybody gets 24-hour medical support, with help for daily needs like bathing, dressing, taking medicine, and transferring from a bed or chair. Each resident room has an emergency alert system for added safety, and some rooms have private bathrooms, kitchenettes, cable TV, and high-speed internet for comfort, while common spaces include a fitness room, movie theater, game room, library, garden, outdoor walking paths, and several activity rooms. There are scheduled daily activities, plus some run by the community or residents themselves, encouraging everyone to join in exercise, arts, music, movie nights, and special events, and those who want to venture out or have visitors benefit from transportation, parking, and concierge services, as well as regular housekeeping and laundry. The dining room offers a restaurant-style menu with choices for each meal, supporting dietary needs like those for diabetes or allergies, and there's a big focus on making mealtimes relaxed and social.

Linn Community Nursing Home does try to create a supportive, small town feel, but it's worth knowing there have been several health and safety deficiencies found by inspectors, including issues with infection control, food sourcing and safety, and keeping the facility free from accident hazards, some of which have reached "immediate jeopardy" levels and affected many people. There have been four infection-related issues noted in reports, a nurse turnover rate of about 34 percent, and about 3.15 nurse staffing hours per resident each day, with the home usually hosting an average of 38 residents. It operates as both a skilled nursing facility and a continuing care retirement community, with memory care, assisted living, and independent living options for different care needs and levels of independence. Staff work with each person and their family to set up the right plan, and the goal is always to balance safety, personal choice, and companionship in a place that's familiar and welcoming.
