    Moved Mom In Highly Recommend

I toured and moved my mom in - she's happy. The spacious, clean apartments (kitchenette, room for personal furniture), on-site dining with good variety, activities and salon make it feel like home. Staff are kind, professional, communicative and involved in care - they've earned our trust. Great location and reasonable price; overall a very positive experience and I would recommend.

    Summary of reviews

Homestead Assisted Living & Memory Care of Wichita is consistently described as a clean, welcoming community with well-maintained grounds and larger-than-average apartment layouts that often include kitchenettes and good natural light. Families and visitors commonly praise the on-site dining program, salon services, family-style dinners, and an active activity schedule that contributes to a social atmosphere. The facility's location near shopping and park space, ability to personalize units, and generally reasonable pricing are additional strengths noted by many.

Care and staffing impressions are mixed. Numerous accounts describe friendly, compassionate caregivers and knowledgeable clinical staff who provide proactive health updates and effective medication-management practices. At the same time, reviewers identify operational challenges: inconsistent staffing levels, high turnover in some roles, and occasional declines in care continuity when staffing is constrained. Several families raised concerns about staff conduct or responsiveness in specific interactions, and a small number of allegations about inappropriate behavior or dishonest communication were also mentioned. These items appear isolated but important to investigate during a tour or admission conversation.

Dining and activities are overall positively received: food variety and accommodations are described as satisfactory, and the activity director and community events receive favorable comments. Practical limitations were also noted — the activities room is small and some interior areas are dated, though management has indicated planned remodeling. Housekeeping is generally praised for cleanliness, yet there are intermittent lapses in dining-room cleaning and other common-area touch points that prospective residents should confirm during a visit.

Management and administration present a mixed picture. Some families commend an engaged executive director and improving initiatives following a change in ownership/management, while others describe administrative coordination problems such as unprepared tours, admissions-process confusion, and disorganized office areas. Memory-care services are available, but reviewers caution that the community may have limited capacity to manage advanced behavioral dementia or aggression; evaluate behavioral-support protocols and staffing ratios if that level of care is needed. Overall, Homestead offers many features that appeal to prospective residents, but families should prioritize a focused tour addressing staffing consistency, administration communication, behavioral-care capability, and housekeeping standards before deciding.

About Homestead Assisted Living & Memory Care of Wichita

Homestead Assisted Living & Memory Care of Wichita sits on West Maple Street near Meadows Park, right in the Western Wichita neighborhood, and it's been around for about twenty years, which lets folks know they've been doing this for a while and probably have a pretty good routine down, so when you walk in, you'll see a small, cozy community with space for up to 48 residents, and they've got a mix of private studio and one-bedroom apartments, all with plenty of closet space and private bathrooms with safety bars and walk-in showers, and you can bring your own things to furnish the room the way you like, plus you control your own heating and air, so you can keep your room just how you want it, and the whole community is set up so folks feel comfortable and supported, whether they're there for assisted living or memory care needs like Alzheimer's or dementia.

The staff has certified team members on site 24 hours every day, with a nurse on call all the time, and they help with things like bathing, dressing, medication management, blood sugar checks - though they can't give insulin shots - and other care like diabetic or incontinence support as long as you can manage most of it yourself, and they've got a full health records system so all your health information gets shared easily between nurses and doctors, and they even have visiting professionals like podiatrists, therapists, and a salon/barber shop, so you can get most of your needs met right there without leaving.

They pay a lot of attention to privacy, and all the care is done in a way that keeps things confidential, which folks usually appreciate, and for folks with memory care needs, they have secure areas and use bracelets to prevent wandering, plus programs that help with memory issues, recreation, and stress, and they run daily activities, exercise groups, social gatherings, and even devotional services right onsite, and everything takes place in comfortable indoor and outdoor spaces, with walking paths, a theater room, an outdoor patio, fitness center, and special areas to socialize or have family visit.

Meals are taken care of by a professional chef, and you get three home-cooked meals every day, with anyone who needs special diets getting accommodations, so you don't have to cook unless you want to, and they handle the laundry and cleaning each week, so your room stays tidy, and if you need a ride to an appointment, they've got transportation services for that too.

There's a community fee when you move in and the monthly costs depend on the care level - for example, $825 for medium care, $425 for low care - and they do an assessment to decide what level fits best, and they're open to residents who are 55 or older, and their approach is to match each person to just the right amount of help, with care plans that change if your needs change, so you can keep as much independence as possible while still having someone nearby to help, and the staff say they treat residents like family because they work with the same caregivers over time.

They're part of the Midwest Health group, and they follow all nondiscrimination policies, and since they're both a personal care facility and a clinic with medical oversight, they can handle a range of care situations, including short-term rehab for folks getting over surgery, illness, or accidents, plus cognitive support for memory care residents, and the place is set up with things like a 24-hour emergency system and secured spaces, so you know someone's always around to help if something happens, and the setting feels home-like, with a focus on celebrating life, respecting each person's choices, and making sure everyone feels safe and welcome.
