    Warm, safe, family-like senior community

I'm very pleased with Forest Hills - a gorgeous, brand-new, spotless community where staff know residents by name and provide caring, personalized attention. Meals are enjoyable (special dinners stand out), activities and therapy options are plentiful, and on-site nursing, weekly housekeeping/linen service and transportation make daily life easy. Overall it feels warm, safe and family-like, and I would recommend it.

    Summary of reviews

Forest Hills Commons presents a mixed but broadly constructive profile for prospective residents and families. The facility is frequently described as clean, well maintained, and cosmetically updated; reviewers commonly note attractive common areas, courtyards, and a variety of apartment sizes including accessible and two‑bedroom options. Housekeeping routines (regular room cleaning, linen changes, and weekly laundry) and visible housekeeping presence are repeatedly cited as strengths.

Clinical services are a clear positive in many accounts. The community maintains around‑the‑clock nursing coverage, medication administration by nursing staff, and regular on‑site physician and nurse‑practitioner visits. Rehabilitation services — particularly physical and speech therapy — receive favorable comments for effectiveness. Families highlight staff who form personal relationships with residents and who often go beyond basic duties to assist families and individual needs.

Dining and programming provide notable highs and some inconsistencies. The community offers chef‑engaged dining and special-event meals that reviewers praised; activity programming is extensive, with live music, movie nights, arts and crafts, Bingo, field trips, and a library. At the same time, reviewers describe variability in day‑to‑day meal quality and cite dining‑service staffing shortages that can lead to long wait times. Activity levels and engagement also appear uneven across units: some families describe a lively, orchestral atmosphere while others experienced limited engagement for specific residents.

Operational and management themes are mixed. Several families commend visible, hands‑on leadership, responsive directors, and strong nursing leadership. Contrastingly, other accounts describe organizational instability after ownership changes, billing and billing‑communication problems, and perceived profit‑driven staffing reductions. Staffing consistency is the most recurrent operational concern: reductions or turnover have been tied to gaps in clinical continuity, weekend coverage issues, and dining‑service shortfalls. There are also mentions of variable customer‑service tone and occasional accessibility concerns around weekend management presence.

For prospective residents and families: the facility demonstrates many foundational strengths in clinical coverage, rehabilitation, activities, and housekeeping, and it may be particularly well suited to families prioritizing 24/7 nursing, active programming, and a recently renovated environment. However, because experiences vary by unit and by time of day, families should ask targeted questions during a tour — for example, about current staffing ratios (including weekends and dining staff), recent ownership or management changes, billing practices, clinical‑coverage continuity, and smoking policies near campus — and try to visit at a mealtime and on a weekend to observe service levels and activity engagement firsthand.

    About Forest Hills Commons

Forest Hills Commons sits on the east end of Louisville, close to I-64 and I-265, which makes getting there pretty easy and there are several full-service hospitals nearby for emergencies, so nobody has to worry about being far from medical care. The community provides assisted living, memory care, and respite care, so people can find help with daily activities, support for memory loss, or short-term stays, and there are Personal Care Apartments and a memory care neighborhood with both private apartments and memory care units. Staff specialize in caring for people with early or middle stages of Alzheimer's and dementia, and they're there to help with everything from medication management to wound care and regular physician visits, so folks can get medical help when they need it. Licensed nurses are around day and night and the staff focus on treating everyone like family, making sure people from all backgrounds get the care they deserve, and they put together personalized care plans for long-term recovery or everyday life, and they've got disease management programs too, in case someone has a specific health condition. There's a fitness center with professional staff, spaces for movies, a library, a game room, and you can get all-day dining in the restaurant-style dining room, plus they offer dietary counseling to keep up with special nutrition needs, and restorative rehabilitation services to help people recover from surgeries or illness. People can take the scheduled transportation to go shopping or for a group outing, so they're not stuck inside if they don't want to be. The facility itself has studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom assisted living units with modern finishes and good storage space, and the memory care area offers studio apartments. Forest Hills Commons has a dedicated executive director named Katie Alexander and a staff that wants to help residents and families find answers, solutions, and some peace of mind-there are even support groups, member directories, and public events on senior living, so it's a community that's trying to support folks in different ways. For those who want to know more, they've got FAQs and consumer resources, and people looking for work can check out their employment opportunities if they're interested in senior care.
