    About Loretto Motherhouse Infirmary

Loretto Motherhouse Infirmary, now called Loretto Living Center at Loretto Motherhouse, is a nonprofit, faith-based long-term care facility run by the Sisters of Loretto, who have a long history of more than 200 years serving the community, and the place sits on peaceful grounds in central Kentucky with about 100 Loretto Community members, a working farm, woods, and protected land, along with a historic chapel, museum, archive, art gallery, and two retreat centers called Cedars of Peace and Knobs Haven, and although the Sunday Mass in the historic chapel is currently closed to the public, the area still feels quiet, supportive, and full of history. The facility mainly supports active seniors who can care for themselves but need a bit of help or want to live in a safe community setting, and while it offers independent, assisted, nursing, and memory care services, the building itself feels homey, with private bathrooms, kitchenettes, cable TV, Wi-Fi, and high-speed internet in the rooms, and residents can get 1 to 2 chef-prepared meals each day with choices for special diets like diabetic or allergy-sensitive needs, plus get help with housekeeping, laundry, and meals as part of their everyday routine. Nursing and rehab services are available, and the center provides health care including medication help, transfers, bathing, and dressing, along with 12-16 hours of nursing and 24-hour emergency call systems for extra support, and residents who need more can access occupational, physical, respiratory, and speech therapy, as well as help from dietitians, so folks with chronic illness or those needing rehab after illness or surgery have support. There are programs for memory care as well as skilled nursing, and the supported amenities provide ways for everyone to connect with the community, whether that means taking walks on garden paths, enjoying outdoor spaces, joining movie nights, fitness classes, art and music groups, or reading in the library, and while professional staff are there each day, the aim is to help with independence and dignity, so there's assistance as needed but also encouragement for each person to do what they can. The setting is secure with 24-hour supervision, and residents who have mobility problems or need more help with daily activities are welcome too, and there's a resident council and family council, so people can take part in how the place runs. The facility has earned "A+" grades and five-star ratings from Kentucky's inspections, with high occupancy and no substantiated complaints on recent reports, and in 2019, it was also listed among the top nursing homes in Kentucky. Loretto Living Center is known for being financially transparent, filing Form 990s, and offering a full range of healthcare programs, grant activities, and even research opportunities focused on practices in long-term and short-term care, and it seems the Sisters of Loretto have kept their focus on faith, comfort, and dignity for elders they serve, including sisters, co-members, former staff, their families, and neighbors to the Motherhouse. The place offers a gentle, caring environment that matches the values of the Loretto Community, and while the ownership changed a few times lately, the commitment to holistic, compassionate care, health, and community wellness still holds steady.
