    Outstanding rehab stay, supportive staff

I stayed three months at Pelican Pointe for rehab and was very pleased. The staff were outstanding-prompt, caring, and supportive-and the facility was always very clean. PT/OT helped me regain walking, my wife received excellent assisted-living care, and transitions were smooth. The food was good; I would choose Pelican Pointe again and highly recommend it.

    Summary of reviews

Reviewer feedback for Pelican Pointe Healthcare and Rehabilitation is mixed, with a clear pattern of strengths centered on short-term rehabilitation and notable operational weaknesses that affect some long-term and overnight experiences. Many accounts highlight effective therapy services and measurable functional gains; other accounts describe delays, communication gaps, and inconsistent care that materially affected family confidence.

Care quality: The facility receives consistent praise for its physical and occupational therapy programs and for achieving successful discharge outcomes for residents returning home. Several families indicate that rehabilitation staff helped restore mobility and independence. At the same time, nursing-level care is described as inconsistent: reviewers cite delays in routine personal care, variability between shifts, and uneven follow-through on clinical needs. These patterns suggest stronger performance in structured rehab programs than in ongoing nursing support for extended stays.

Staff and management: Positive comments emphasize compassionate, caring caregivers and constructive interactions with certain administrative staff. Conversely, a recurrent concern is poor responsiveness — families described difficulty reaching nursing/management, delays in returning calls, and delayed release of documentation. Other concerns relate to staff conduct and supervision (for example, inattentive behaviors during duty) and to pronounced differences between daytime and nighttime staffing and attentiveness. Management is viewed positively by some families, but communication and escalation pathways may require clarification and improvement.

Dining and activities: Opinions about meals are mixed. Some reviewers praise food quality, while others describe cold or unappealing meals and inconsistent assistance during mealtimes. Activity programming is less frequently discussed in the feedback set; those seeking a rehab-focused stay can expect therapy-centered routines, while availability and engagement for long-term residents are less well characterized by reviewers.

Facilities and sanitation: Several reviewers describe the facility environment positively, noting a well-maintained, rehab-focused setting. Others raised sanitation and cleanliness inconsistencies and voiced concerns about incontinence-care delays. These divergent impressions indicate that environmental standards may vary across units or shifts.

Notable patterns and practical guidance: The overall picture is one of a facility with strong rehabilitation capabilities and individualized successes, offset by operational issues that can affect everyday resident experience — chiefly staffing consistency, communication, personal-care assistance, and documentation timeliness. Prospective residents and families should ask targeted questions about current staffing ratios (especially at night), bathing and toileting protocols, documentation turnaround, discharge-planning procedures, and who to contact for escalations. Observing a mealtime and speaking directly with therapy staff and nursing leadership before admission can help align expectations with the facility’s strengths and limitations.

About Pelican Pointe Healthcare and Rehabilitation

Pelican Pointe Healthcare and Rehabilitation sits at 405 Milton Rd. in Maurice, Louisiana, and you'll notice it's a nursing home that handles both short-term rehab and long-term care, offering skilled nursing services for folks coming out of surgery, hospital stays, or living with ongoing illnesses, and they're pretty steady with care, since there's always certified nurses, aides, physicians, and therapists on hand with monitoring 24 hours every day. The facility has spacious suites, Cajun-infused meals, and lets residents take part in things like music lessons, social gatherings, excursions, and a list of signature programs with names like Celebrations, Fulfill A Wish, Music and Memory, Music With Jan, Novel Excursions, Taste & Critique, and Tech Connect. Their on-site therapy gym has equipment suited for seniors, and you can get speech, occupational, and physical therapy, aimed at helping regain skills, rebuild strength, or recover from injuries, with the Rehab to Home program focusing on short-term, goal-based rehab to get people back to daily activities. There's an option to have an on-site nurse assessment for care needs after hospital stays, and the medical and dental services stretch from help with daily living to more complex needs, all with care plans formed by the staff, physicians, residents, and their families. The staff leans on a person-centered care model, working with programs for memory support and aiming for both medical and social living, and they've added virtual tours to help families see the community before making decisions. With a 3.2 rating from six reviews, people share mixed experiences, which is common in healthcare, but the place keeps a touch of traditional southern hospitality. Suites are comfortable, meals reflect local culture, and programs try to keep residents active and fulfilled in daily life.
