    Warm, caring home; trustworthy care

I was very pleased with this small, home-like facility - the staff were warm, caring, and treated us like family, the residences were immaculate, and the owners went above and beyond during our brief stay when my dad passed. I highly recommend this well-run, fairly priced place for excellent, trustworthy care.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: The reviews portray Metairie Heights House as a small, well-kept residential care home with a consistently positive reputation for interpersonal care. Families and visitors emphasize a warm, home-like atmosphere, respectful interactions between staff and residents, and a high level of attentiveness from caregivers and owners. Cleanliness and attractive surroundings are repeatedly noted, and the facility’s pricing is described as fair.

Care quality and staff: The dominant theme across comments is the quality of the caregiving team. Staff are described as kind, respectful, and attentive; ownership and management receive praise for responsiveness and for taking extra steps on behalf of residents. These remarks suggest strong day-to-day staff–resident rapport and an emphasis on personalized attention. At the same time, a small number of remarks indicate an initial family hesitation about trusting care and mention situations involving rapid clinical decline; prospective families should clarify how the facility communicates during acute changes and what protocols are in place for transitions of care.

Clinical scope and suitability: Because Metairie Heights House operates as a small-home setting, it appears well suited to residents who benefit from a close, family-style environment and moderate assistance with activities of daily living. Reviews imply that the facility may have limited capacity and fewer on-site clinical resources than larger nursing centers. Families seeking long-term placement for high-acuity needs or complex medical management should confirm staffing ratios, clinical capabilities, and relationships with hospice or nearby medical providers.

Dining and activities: Review content provided little specific information about dining quality, menus, or a formal activities program. The home-like atmosphere and comments that residents “thrive” suggest an engaging social environment, but prospective residents should request sample menus, an activities schedule, and examples of daily routines during a tour to assess fit.

Facilities and management: Physical accommodations are characterized as clean, well-maintained, and comfortable. Ownership and managers are portrayed as hands-on and willing to go above and beyond, which is a positive indicator of operational attentiveness in a small setting. Given the home’s scale, families should ask about occupancy limits, private versus shared rooms, and contingency plans for staffing shortages or higher-acuity needs.

Notable patterns and recommendations: The reviews are predominantly positive about interpersonal care and the homelike setting. The principal operational cautions to investigate further are the home’s limited capacity and clinical scope and the need for clear communication protocols during sudden clinical changes or end-of-life transitions. When evaluating this facility, arrange a tour, meet caregiving staff, request information about clinical oversight and emergency protocols, and obtain written details on activities and dining to ensure the environment matches the prospective resident’s clinical and social needs.

    About Metairie Heights House

Metairie Heights House sits in a quiet area of Metairie, Louisiana, on an extra-large lot that gives a little more breathing room than most, and the building itself is a single-story brick house built back in 1974, which means it's got good bones and a simple, open floor plan with four bedrooms, two and a half bathrooms, a wood burning and a gas fireplace, central cooling, and big closets and walk-in pantry for storage, all laid out across about 2,485 square feet. You'll find features like ceiling fans, a covered patio and porch, a garage with two parking spots and a storeroom, washer and dryer hookups, and a security system for peace of mind. The kitchen has a dishwasher, range/oven, refrigerator, and a roomy walk-in pantry, and the house has a floored attic for even more storage. There's a sprinkler system, safety and handicap features, and a layout that's flat and easy to get around, which can help folks who use walkers or wheelchairs.

This place supports many levels of care-independent living, assisted living, nursing care, and memory care-with staff trained in dementia and Alzheimer's care and all sorts of daily help like dressing, bathing, toileting, medication management, diabetic care, and even incontinence and non-ambulatory care. There are personal care assistants on hand, and healthcare needs get a lot of attention, with specialized plans and assessments, and folks from the American Caregiver Relief Network help figure out what's needed for each person. Memory care gets special programming here, so folks living with dementia or Alzheimer's have social programs and mental engagement, with staff who know how to handle the ups and downs. Family is encouraged to stay connected, and care planning is pretty individualized, so everybody's needs get attention after an initial consultation.

Residents keep busy if they want, since there's always exercise and wellness programs, lots of social activities, arts and crafts, some educational programs, health and wellness offerings, and common game and activities rooms for mingling and staying active. The place is pet-friendly, offers Wi-Fi and cable TV, guest parking, a salon/barbershop, housekeeping and laundry, and even transportation for appointments or errands. Meals are home cooked, served in a dining room, and the staff can help with kitchens or kitchenettes in the home when needed. There's always someone around, with 24/7 care, security alarms, and a care team that checks on everyone's needs.

Metairie Heights House hasn't flooded, which is reassuring, and all the little details-like safety handrails, maintenance, and the family-centered approach-make a difference for older adults who want a place that feels secure and supportive, but not too fussy. The house and its programs focus on letting people age as well as possible, with the right help close by.
