    Compassionate staff helped regain mobility

I stayed at Booker and was blessed by compassionate, attentive staff who helped me regain mobility-administration, the social worker and rehab team were supportive and responsive. The facility is very clean and welcoming; they clearly prioritize staff and patient care over fancy decor. I'm grateful for the team and would highly recommend them.

    Summary of reviews

Booker T. Washington Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation presents a mixed picture. Many accounts highlight strong rehabilitation services: physical and occupational therapy are praised for helping residents regain mobility and achieve measurable recovery goals. Multiple reviewers commended individual staff members, administrators, and social workers for being supportive, responsive, and attentive. The facility interior is described as clean and welcoming, and there are positive notes about visitation flexibility, including pastoral access. Several comments suggest leadership places resources toward staffing and direct care rather than decorative upgrades.

At the same time, consistent operational weaknesses appear across the feedback. Staffing levels and responsiveness are recurring concerns: families described delayed responses to call lights, long waits for personal care, and inconsistent bathing schedules. Those process gaps extend to clinical monitoring and emergency response; a subset of reviewers raised serious claims about delays in recognizing or responding to acute medical events, and some described issues following a resident's transfer to hospital care. There are also reports pointing to inconsistent administrative follow-through and broken promises around care plans.

Communication and conduct were other notable patterns. While some staff are singled out as compassionate and effective, others were described as having an uncaring tone or inattentive approach, particularly among some direct-care aides. In addition, there are claims concerning the handling of resident belongings and financial safeguards, and separate assertions regarding discriminatory hiring practices and treatment. These items represent serious family concerns that would warrant direct discussion with facility management and review of relevant policies.

Information about dining and activities is limited in the available summaries. No consistent praise or critique of dining quality or the activity program emerges; prospective families should ask the facility for current menus, activity schedules, and participation levels. The building interior is generally described as well-maintained and clean, though some noted the exterior is less visually appealing.

For families considering this facility, the salient points are the strong rehabilitation capability and several highly regarded staff members, contrasted with operational shortcomings around staffing, timely personal care, clinical monitoring, property safeguards, and some aspects of staff conduct. Recommended next steps before placement include: reviewing current staffing ratios and turnover, asking about call-light response metrics and emergency protocols, confirming property/financial safeguard procedures, and discussing the facility's policies on diversity, hiring, and grievance resolution. Direct observation of care during a tour and interviews with the social work/administration team can help clarify whether the facility’s strengths align with a prospective resident’s needs and risks.
