    Welcoming facility, clean, compassionate staff

I visited with my parent and felt genuinely welcomed - Ms. Lindsey and Ms. Amy greeted us, and Terri, Kerri, Angela and Wanda were all caring and professional. The facility is very clean with home-like rooms, beautiful grounds, plenty of activities and attentive, respectful staff who treat residents like family. I'm comfortable recommending this place for quality, compassionate care.

    Summary of reviews

Reviews of Heritage Manor South present a mixed but distinct pattern: many families and visitors describe a caring, respectful atmosphere with attentive nursing and engaged leadership, while a subset raise operational and clinical concerns that prospective residents should evaluate before placement.

Care and staff: Numerous accounts praise compassionate, responsive nursing and frontline staff who provide timely attention, involve an in-house physician when needed, and foster a family-like culture. Several reviewers specifically highlighted staff members by name and commended leadership and visible supervision. Conversely, other accounts describe variable staff conduct and communication tone, periods of understaffing that produce delays in service, and concerns about medication-management and timely clinical escalation. There are also references to repeated hospital readmissions for some residents; reviewers attributed these to clinical instability and gaps in escalation procedures. Overall, the facility demonstrates strengths in personalized care when staffing and clinical processes are functioning well, but consistency appears uneven.

Dining: Dining impressions are mixed. Multiple reviewers report meals that are tasty, accommodating of preferences, and above average. Others note inconsistent food quality, unattractive presentation, and occasional issues with specific menu items. Meal-service timing and coverage can be affected during staff breaks or staffing shortages, producing delays or room delivery in some cases. Prospective residents should ask about current dining menus, special-diet handling, and meal-service continuity during a tour.

Activities and community life: The facility offers social programming—bingo, themed parties, and other events—that many families and residents enjoy, contributing to a pleasant community atmosphere. However, some reviewers describe minimal or inconsistent activity offerings. Activity intensity and variety may depend on staffing and program coordination, so verify current schedules and participation levels during a visit.

Facilities and maintenance: Physical attributes earn consistent praise: clean rooms, attractive grounds, wheelchair-accessible bathrooms and tile flooring, and private-room options. At the same time, a number of reviewers reported slower-than-desired maintenance response times, amenity issues such as TV reception problems, and intermittent sanitation or odor-control concerns in some areas. Those strengths suggest the building and grounds are generally well cared for, but maintenance responsiveness and sanitation consistency are variable.

Management and operational patterns: Leadership and individual staff are frequently praised for responsiveness, hospitality, and communication. Nonetheless, recurring operational themes include staffing shortages affecting meal and care continuity, administrative responsiveness gaps (including phone communication), and instances of mismanaged personal property and laundry. A few accounts also raised infection-control and hydration-related concerns; there are references to specific clinical incidents that families found troubling. These items point to variability in operational reliability rather than a single consistent profile across the facility.

What to watch for on a tour: Ask about current staffing levels and ratios, medication-administration and clinical-escalation protocols, turnaround times for maintenance requests, laundry and discharge procedures for personal property, infection-control practices, and sample menus and activity schedules. Meet nursing leadership and request recent survey or inspection information if available. Overall, Heritage Manor South shows clear strengths in a welcoming culture, accessible facilities, and pockets of strong clinical involvement, but prospective residents should confirm consistency in staffing, maintenance, and clinical protocols to ensure those strengths are reliably delivered.

    About Heritage Manor South

Heritage Manor South sits right on Mansfield Road in Shreveport, and it's been around since 1986, offering long-term care, assisted living, memory care, rehabilitation, and short-term recovery, serving elders who need varying types of support whether it's for ongoing needs, post-surgical help, or a place to stay that feels safe and comfortable, and folks there find different options for living, like studio, single, and two-bedroom apartments, along with semi-private and private rooms in the nursing home section so people can find what best fits them. Meals come out of the dietary department, and those meals are planned by a dietitian so they're both good for you and, from what people say, served up in a clean dining room, where residents can sit together and chat while they eat, and there are also meal programs like Meals on Wheels and congregate sites for those who need them. Registered nurses and other healthcare professionals work there day and night-24 hours a day-so everyone gets medication management, wound care, medical monitoring, or skilled therapy when it's needed, and wound care includes the vacuum-assisted closure technique for those who need more advanced help, so you know there's some real know-how on site.

Caregiver staff at Heritage Manor South provide help with daily life-bathing, dressing, grooming, using the bathroom, getting around by walking or in a wheelchair, and they also stay trained to respond fast during emergencies which gives families peace of mind, and there are programs in place for more advanced needs too, like postsurgical care, IV therapy, hospice services, and physical, occupational, and speech therapies, so recovery or comfort care happens right at the facility. Memory care is available for people living with dementia or Alzheimer's, and there are special activities, amenities, and safety features in place for them, because staying engaged and secure matters.

People who live at Heritage Manor South don't just get medical and daily living help-they also get housekeeping, laundry services, and access to a salon and barbershop so they can keep up with haircuts or a bit of pampering, and the place itself is kept tidy by a maintenance crew who make sure the property is safe and anything that breaks gets fixed in a reasonable time. The whole community is built for accessibility, with handicap features, a sprinkler system for fire safety, guest parking, elevators, washers and dryers, kitchens or kitchenettes in some units, cable TV, and Wi-Fi, which helps people stay in touch or just relax with their favorite shows.

Social life gets a focus, and there's a full calendar of activities, whether it's bingo, Bible studies, fitness exercises, brunch events, trips to fish at the stocked pond out back, or heading out for community outings and doctor appointments with the scheduled transportation services, and the place has an active volunteer program, so outsiders come in sometimes to help out or just spend time with people living there. Residents can get involved in arts and crafts, education, game nights, and health and wellness programs, with regular updates so no one misses what's coming up-this helps keep the mind and body active.

Heritage Manor South offers several options for personal help and medical services, like podiatry, occupational therapy, nursing, wound care, and even legal services if families need advice, and the staff gets guidance from a management team and a staff advisory council who look out for everyone's welfare. The facility commits to non-discrimination, and they follow enhanced barrier precautions for infection control which has become so important in recent years, so safety isn't overlooked. There's also an Ombudsman program that aims to protect residents' rights, along with supportive services such as Caregiver Respite and a Homemaker Program which take some of the pressure off families. Heritage Manor South operates as a licensed and accredited nursing facility, offers a warm and inviting environment, and pays attention to making residents comfortable through all stages of their stay, whether people have lived in Shreveport all their lives or have just come to the area for retirement living with compassionate care.
