    Caring staff, great dining, community

I've lived here for several years and I'm very happy: the staff - nurses, aides and management - are caring, responsive and kept residents safe and connected during the pandemic. Dining is restaurant-quality with good accommodations, and daily housekeeping/personal laundry are a big help. The 125-acre campus with lake, trails, pool and fitness options plus on-site medical care and a full activities program has given me many friends and a real sense of community. Overall a safe, supportive, well-run place I recommend.

    Summary of reviews

Collington presents as a large, park-like continuing care community with substantial strengths in campus amenities, resident programming, and groundskeeping. Reviewers consistently describe a well-maintained 125-acre property with extensive outdoor space, walking trails, a lake, and multiple recreational facilities (pool, gym, pickleball/tennis, salon, barber). Housing options range from cottages to spacious apartment plans with accessible bathrooms, in-unit laundry, remodeled kitchens, and included maintenance and housekeeping services. The site supports active outdoor and indoor programming — art, music, fitness classes, outings and resident-led activities — which contributes to a strong sense of community among long-term residents.

Staffing and day-to-day assistance receive overall positive marks for friendliness, professionalism, and proactive engagement; many families praised individual caregivers, marketing and tour staff, and the community’s pandemic response. On-site supports such as transportation vans, an on-site doctor’s office, memory-care and skilled-nursing units, and routine maintenance/housekeeping add operational convenience for residents. Dining is generally viewed as good to very good by a number of reviewers, with accommodations for special diets and a range of meal venues, though some residents find menu options mild and others report service slowdowns at peak times.

Notable patterns of concern center on clinical oversight, staff professionalism, and administrative responsiveness. While many residents report excellent caregiving, several accounts describe inconsistent clinical care quality, gaps in resident monitoring and safety protocols, and concerns about staff conduct or boundary violations. There are also isolated sanitation and food-service oversight concerns and examples of slow or unreliable meal service. These operational weaknesses have, in some cases, led families to escalate complaints; reviewers describe mixed experiences with management’s responsiveness and complaint-resolution effectiveness.

Practical considerations for prospective residents and families include the community’s pricing structure and location. Collington has a substantial upfront buy-in and elevated monthly fees, and there are reports of a waitlist. The campus is somewhat removed from central urban areas, which can make visiting logistics more challenging for some families. Overall, the facility offers a high level of amenities, programming, and attractive grounds that support an active lifestyle, but prospective residents should conduct thorough, targeted inquiries into clinical staffing, safety protocols, dining-service reliability, and administrative complaint processes during tours and pre-move assessments.

    About Collington, A Kendal Affiliate

Collington, A Kendal Affiliate, sits on 125 acres with lots of trees, open lawns, and a six-acre lake where you can fish off the pier, and there are walking trails and gardens, so it feels like a true community where nature's never far away, plus there's even an accredited arboretum and space for pets, including a dog park, so folks who like animals can enjoy their company. The place started in 1988 as a nonprofit, and the staff numbers somewhere between 200 and 500, so you pretty much always see someone around taking care of things, from security and snow removal to landscaping and trash picking, and you get your buildings and grounds kept up with maintenance, which helps people stay comfortable and safe.

There are different types of homes to choose from, like spacious apartments, cottages, and even villas, with choices that range from one-bedroom up to two-bedroom plus a den, and there are kitchenettes for people who want their own space to cook. Collington gives you access to dining services-meals get served restaurant style, and there are daily snacks, and if you like community meals, those are part of life here, but they also offer flexible meal plans, and you get utilities included in your rent, which makes things simpler. There's cable or satellite TV in shared areas, and high safety is a focus, with a gated entry and round-the-clock emergency response, with transportation services if you need rides, so getting around's less of a worry.

This is a Life Care community, which means Collington offers a full range of care levels, including independent living, assisted living, memory support, respite stays, and skilled nursing right on the grounds, and care is person-centered with real attention to health and wellness, through fitness programs, wellness checks, and a holistic approach that covers the body and mind. Seniors with different needs find help with bathing, dressing, meal prep, medication, housekeeping, and laundry, plus there are salon services and linen service, and they take check or card payments, insurance, Medicaid, and Medicare, so paying is clear, and staff provide financial guidance and help with home sales if you need to move.

Collington supports veterans with VA aid assistance and offers other services for families, like communication support and help with moving, so families stay in touch and folks don't fall through the cracks as they settle in. There are structured activities, games, music, religious services, hobbies, and entertainment, so people can stay active and connected, and if you like to get outdoors, there are places to walk and plenty to see right outside. The community aims to keep things secure and as peaceful as possible, with housekeeping, maintenance, trash and recycling, and snow removal as part of the package, and you can find up-to-date info at their website, www.collington.kendal.org, if you're curious about the details or how the Kendal System ties into life here. English is spoken, and they welcome pets. The focus is on choice, independence, and a sense of togetherness, with care and services that suit many needs as the years go on.
