    Caring staff, excellent care, pricey

I moved my mom here and overall we've been very pleased - the staff are caring, nursing and therapy (PT/OT/SLP) are excellent, the community is warm, clean and active, and the apartments and grounds are lovely. Early dining was restaurant-quality but the food declined after chef changes-meals can be inconsistent. Communication and frequent staff/management turnover have been frustrating, and it's pricey, though the team often goes above and beyond. I feel peace of mind and would recommend it with the caveat to confirm current food service, staffing stability, and costs before deciding.

    Summary review

Overall impression: Reviews for The Residence at Five Corners skew largely positive but with notable and repeated caveats. A strong majority of reviewers highlight a warm, caring staff, a clean and attractive facility, robust activity programming, and on-site therapy and health services that support independence and rehabilitation. Many families and residents describe the environment as welcoming and social, praise individual staff members and nurses by name, and report high quality of life improvements after moving in. However, a subset of reviews describes serious concerns: food-quality declines, staff turnover, episodic understaffing, management and corporate communication failures, and a few reports of neglect or other adverse events. These mixed reports create a pattern of generally good performance with meaningful variability depending on timing, unit, and management stability.

Care and staff: The most frequently mentioned strength is the people. Reviews repeatedly call out caring, attentive, and responsive aides, nurses, therapists, and activity staff. Multiple accounts describe team-based care, strong individualized care plans, and successful short-term rehab/respite stays. On-site therapy (PT/OT), nursing oversight, and ancillary services such as podiatry and salon services are commonly valued. At the same time, several reviews describe frequent staff turnover, occasional understaffing (including requests for better night coverage), and instances where communication from management or corporate was slow or insufficient. A small but significant number of reviews report serious negative incidents—hospitalizations, alleged neglect, and abusive behavior—indicating variability in care quality and the importance of verifying current staffing and oversight.

Facility, spaces and activities: The Residence at Five Corners is consistently praised for its new/clean facility, airy rooms with large windows, attractive outdoor grounds, and multiple communal spaces (patios, activity rooms, movie room). Residents and families frequently note social engagement: daily classes, exercise, arts & crafts, musical programs, socials, and monthly live entertainment. These offerings contribute to a sense of community and improved quality of life for many. Nevertheless, several reviewers experienced a marked reduction in activities at certain times (notably during or after pandemic-related disruptions), reporting that programming dwindled to minimal offerings like bingo. Prospective families should confirm current activity schedules and staffing for life-enrichment programming during tours.

Dining and food service: Dining impressions are mixed and variable over time. Numerous reviewers praise restaurant-style dining, varied menus, appealing entrees, and attentive dining staff; specific dishes and desserts were singled out positively. Conversely, multiple reviews report a substantial decline in food quality at times, including episodic accounts of very poor meals (for example, hotdogs and beans served on paper plates) and a drop in standards after chef departures. Food-service consistency appears to be a recurring concern; it is one area where experiences differ markedly between reviewers.

Management, corporate issues and policies: Several reviews raise red flags about management and corporate responsiveness. Positive accounts praise specific directors and staff for proactive communication and warm transitions. Negative accounts focus on corporate unresponsiveness, delayed action on resident needs, and at least one serious allegation of a resident being evicted during the pandemic despite Power of Attorney involvement. Comments about billing emphasis and a focus on the bottom line appear alongside reports of management turnover. These patterns suggest that leadership stability and corporate policies materially affect resident experience; families should ask detailed questions about eviction and grievance policies, recent turnover rates, and how corporate-level complaints are handled.

Safety, medical capability, and COVID response: Many reviewers applaud the facility's COVID safety measures and describe staff going above and beyond during the pandemic, even using daily video calls to keep residents connected. The community appears well-suited to routine assisted living needs and short-term rehabilitation, with praised therapy services and staff support. However, a few reviewers indicate the memory care or medical-support capabilities are limited for residents with complex medical problems, and some reported hospitalizations or falls. Prospective residents with high-acuity medical needs should probe how the community handles complex medical conditions, transfers, and coordination with outside providers.

Cost and value: Cost is raised repeatedly. Several reviewers deem the community pricey but worth it for the care and environment; others express concern about affordability and question value given variability in food and staffing. Additional charges for increased care needs were mentioned, so clear financial discussions and contract review are important before committing.

Bottom line and advice for prospective families: The Residence at Five Corners offers many clear strengths — compassionate staff, strong therapy and nursing services, attractive and clean facilities, active programming, and a social community that improves many residents' quality of life. However, the experience appears to vary by timeframe and unit, and there are recurring concerns about staff turnover, food consistency, management responsiveness, and occasional serious care-related incidents. When considering this community, schedule multiple visits (during mealtime and activity periods), meet nurses and life-enrichment staff, ask for current staffing ratios and turnover statistics, sample meals if possible, review written policies on evictions and grievance procedures, confirm capabilities for higher-acuity medical needs, and request references from current residents or families. These steps will help verify whether the community's many positives align with a prospective resident's priorities and risk tolerance.
