    Compassionate clean senior care, recommended

I placed my loved one here and overall I'm very pleased: the nurses and CNAs are compassionate, knowledgeable, and attentive, the meals are plentiful and tasty, the apartments and grounds are bright, clean, and lovely, and the activity calendar and on-campus rehab make daily life engaging and safe. Reception and frontline staff are helpful and kind, and care felt like family. My concerns: occasional understaffing leading to delays, spotty management follow-up and billing issues in one instance, and the location may be inconvenient for some. Despite that, I recommend it for quality, comfortable senior care.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across reviews is predominantly positive about the lived experience at Wingate Residences at Silver Lake, with frequent praise for the facility's physical setting, frontline caregiving staff, variety of activities, and available on-campus clinical resources. Many reviewers highlight the beautiful, well-maintained grounds, quiet lakeside or rural setting, pleasant common areas, and bright, clean interior spaces. The community offers an active social calendar with art classes, cooking clubs, sewing groups, card games, walking groups, exercise programs and bus or van trips to museums and shopping. Dining is a recurring positive for many reviewers: social dining, three meals a day, pleasant dining-room atmosphere, and a varied menu are commonly noted. The on-site rehab/nursing home is considered a strong asset, with Wingate residents often receiving priority access for rehab services and smooth transitions from hospital to assisted living for some residents.

Care quality receives mixed but often favorable comments. Numerous reviews single out nurses and CNAs as caring, knowledgeable and willing to go the extra mile; some describe aides as providing 'king-like' or saintly treatment, and many families feel their loved ones are safe and well cared for. Memory care is mentioned as secure and suitably separated from independent and assisted living areas, which reassures families concerned about wandering. However, a clear pattern of inconsistency emerges: while many shifts and staff members are praised, other reviewers report understaffing, rushed or stressed aides, and long wait times for assistance. Several reviews describe initial care issues that were later addressed, but others recount more serious incidents including falls, hospitalizations, and even contracted COVID. These disparate experiences point to variability in staffing levels and care responsiveness across shifts or time periods.

Staffing and management are recurring themes with a bifurcated picture. Frontline staff—CNAs, nurses, reception and maintenance—receive strong, repeated compliments for kindness, competence, and creating a family-like atmosphere. At the same time, multiple reviews criticize administrative and managerial responsiveness: some families experienced poor communication, lack of follow-through by directors, weak weekend management presence, and delays in responding to emails or concerns. Financial and administrative problems were also reported by several families, ranging from disputes over billing (including an extended empty-room charge and contested 60-day notice leading to significant costs) to complaints about rent being charged during hospitalization without prompt reimbursement. A handful of reviews allege serious misconduct or deplorable administrative behavior; while these appear to be isolated, they are significant and affect perceptions of trust and value.

Dining and housekeeping show polarized feedback. Many reviews praise the meals, variety and dining-room experience, while others strongly disagree—reporting repetitive, poor-quality food, lack of fresh vegetables, and a decline in food quality after staff changes. Housekeeping is generally described as adequate, but there are notable complaints about delayed bathroom cleaning and once-per-week cleaning expectations that some families found insufficient. These contrasts suggest that food and housekeeping quality may depend on the timing of the review or particular staff in place at different times.

Facilities, amenities and value are generally considered positive. Reviewers commonly compliment the size and quality of apartments (some larger and better equipped than competitors), the pleasant outdoor spaces and walking paths, and the availability of an on-site rehab unit and future nursing-home option. Activity programming is robust and creative, and many families appreciate the active social life and holiday events. Pricing perceptions vary: several reviewers feel the price is reasonable or good value, and Medicaid is accepted by some, but others view the community as expensive and raise concerns over unexpected or large charges.

Key patterns and final recommendations: Wingate Residences at Silver Lake is often recommended for independent and assisted living residents who value strong social programming, attractive grounds, an on-campus rehab option, and attentive frontline caregivers. The most consistent criticisms relate to staffing shortages, administrative responsiveness, and occasional variability in food and housekeeping. Prospective residents and families should pay close attention to staffing levels (especially on weekends), contractual language about billing and 60-day notices, and verify current dining and housekeeping schedules during tours. The community appears to suit many residents very well, particularly those who are stable and social, but several reviewers advise caution for people with rapidly declining health or complex, high-dependency care needs due to reported staffing and management inconsistencies.

About Wingate Residences at Silver Lake

Wingate Residences at Silver Lake sits across bright, lively grounds, giving residents different ways to live well-from independent living to assisted living and memory care, so folks come in and find support that matches what they want or need, and with state license number 4344, the place keeps things in order. The building brings together classic New England design, plenty of private apartments with different floor plans, private bathrooms, kitchenettes, and full kitchens, and every apartment gives you Wi-Fi, cable TV, closet space, climate controls, a living room area, a shower, and spots for your own telephone. The grounds have gardens, patios, trees, lawn games, and some units look out over the water or into the woods, which folks like if they enjoy walks or just watching the seasons change.

People can bring pets because Wingate stays pet-friendly. Residents take part in activities all year, like chess by the fireplace, yoga in the garden, the Book Club in the library, and bigger holiday and seasonal events, with chances for outings, arts and crafts, music, horticultural classes, and even chances to pitch in with volunteer work. The staff set up regular trips into town for shopping or medical appointments and help with rides to where folks want to go, even offering help for those who use wheelchairs or need an extra hand moving around. There's companionship and assistance if someone needs a walk to dinner or company at an activity.

Residents who need extra help with daily tasks like bathing, dressing, grooming, or using the bathroom get it from caregivers, and there's a part-time nurse on staff, with skilled nursing, medication reminders, rehab and therapy-occupational, physical, and speech-plus hospice, in-home health, and podiatry services for those who need a bit more care, and caregivers do overnight check-ins, weekly cleaning, laundry, and even regular help with showers. Memory care, called The Neighborhood, has a safe space specially set up for folks living with cognitive decline, and all areas have controlled entry, emergency response systems, and fall prevention, trying to keep everyone safe.

Meals come from the Mindful Dining Program, with classically trained chefs making daily meals served in restaurant-style dining rooms, plus places to grab coffee or chat with neighbors. The LiveWell program keeps folks active and engaged, and there's always something to do, whether that means working on a craft, digging in the garden, or talking about a book. Inside, common areas offer spots to relax, like lounges with fireplaces, an entertainment room, a library, billiards, or even a movie theater. Outside, folks walk the paths, enjoy the gardens, or relax on a patio.

The grounds include spots for sports and lawn games, nice for families with visiting grandkids. Housekeeping covers your trash, laundry, beds, repairs, and maintenance, while the grounds and buildings stay tidy, thanks to on-site staff. Wingate Residences at Silver Lake has been run by the Schuster family for over 30 years, and a sense of community shows up in the way people help each other and take part in everything, including welcoming new folks who come for a short-term stay or a more permanent home. Entry has a fee of $3,350, and there are plenty of ways to personalize services, depending on what each resident needs. The staff speaks English and help residents live as independently as possible, with the comfort of support when it's needed, making this a flexible and well-trafficked option in senior living-plus there's a nursing home on campus, so if needs change, residents don't have to move far.
