    Compassionate care, missing some belongings

I live here and, overall, the staff are wonderful - compassionate, professional nurses and hardworking CNAs who anticipated my physical and emotional needs and gave exceptional care after my stroke. The small facility is very clean, well kept, and housekeeping and dietary were kind (they even honored my cottage cheese and watermelon request). My only concerns: a few staff lacked tact and seemed unfamiliar with my condition, and some personal belongings (library books and photo albums) disappeared.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is largely positive with strong emphasis on high-quality, compassionate care and a well-maintained, home-like environment. Multiple reviewers call out "exceptional care," describing nursing staff as compassionate, professional, and knowledgeable. CNAs are repeatedly described as hardworking, and staff are characterized as caring and helpful. The facility's smaller size is mentioned positively — reviewers associate it with a friendlier, more personal atmosphere and note that family members are treated nicely.

Facility upkeep and housekeeping receive very favorable comments. The building is described as very clean and well kept, with housekeeping staff called kind and thoughtful. These comments suggest consistent attention to daily maintenance and resident comfort. Dining also receives praise: a specific example of the dietary department honoring a special request (cottage cheese and watermelon) is cited, which indicates responsiveness to individual preferences and some degree of flexibility in meal services.

Despite the strong positives, there are several significant concerns that appear in the reviews and should not be overlooked. The most serious are multiple reports of missing belongings and allegations of theft, including thefts from the library and of personal photo albums. These accounts raise issues about security, inventory control, and how resident property is supervised and handled. Such incidents can substantially erode trust between families and the facility even when clinical care is otherwise good.

Communication style and clinical competence for specific conditions are other recurring issues. Some reviewers note staff who are "sin tact" (insensitive) and lack appropriate bedside manner. A related concern is that staff were perceived as having insufficient knowledge about particular illnesses — the reviews explicitly mention a stroke (derrame) and suggest that staff did not fully understand or meet needs related to that condition. While many reviewers praise nursing as knowledgeable overall, these comments point to unevenness in clinical expertise and interpersonal skills across staff members or shifts.

In synthesis, Royal Taber Nursing Home appears to deliver strong everyday care, with a clean facility, attentive housekeeping, compassionate nursing, and a supportive atmosphere for families. At the same time, there are notable and serious negatives centered on property security and some gaps in staff sensitivity and condition-specific knowledge (notably concerning stroke care). The dominant pattern is positive caregiving and environment paired with targeted operational and training issues that, if addressed, could significantly improve family confidence and resident experience.

    About Royal taber nursing home

Royal Taber Nursing Home, also called Royal Taber Street Nurs & Rehab Ctr, sits at 19 Taber Street in New Bedford, MA, and has provided nursing and rehabilitation services to seniors for many years, everything from rehab and skilled nursing care to help with memory problems like Alzheimer's and dementia, and the old building there, with its villa-type look, hip roof with terra-cotta tiles, deep eaves, and a balcony above the entrance, gives the place some real character since it goes all the way back to 1912 and used to belong to George R. Cherry who started Cherry & Webb stores. The home offers different types of care, including assisted living, specialized nursing, and both hospice and respite care for people who need extra help for a short time, plus there's companion care for residents who might like some company. They follow state rules and keep a certain ratio of staff to residents to make sure folks get attention, and you'll find they have things like senior transportation, home care, and memory care services as part of their offerings, depending on what's needed. The home is close to restaurants, coffee shops, gas stations, stores, pharmacies, and banks, so visits are easy, and if you call, they'll talk more about floor plans and payment choices. Since it's an old building that's seen some changes over time, some folks care about saving it because of its history, but there's talk about tearing it down for a new clinical center, and nobody's seen any new design or construction yet, but the state does require a license for any care home on that spot. The area has old buildings that add to the neighborhood's look, so that helps the community keep its charm. Royal Taber Nursing Home mainly serves older people in New Bedford with a mix of nursing, rehab, and assisted living care in a building that's part of the local story.
