    About Sunrise Of Weston

Sunrise of Weston, now closed, sat in a historic building from 1899 that once was called Drabbington Lodge, later the Westonian Inn and Weston Inn, and even had a spell as a dorm for Boston University, so the place had been many things to many folks over the years, and it kept a lot of that old charm, with fireplaces, a big library, gardens, and short hallways that made it feel more like a home, with gathering spaces like parlors and living rooms that encouraged people to socialize, instead of getting lost in endless corridors, plus a dining room with all-day restaurant-style dining, and private apartments each with a kitchenette and step-in shower for comfort and privacy, with anywhere from cozy studios to larger two-bedrooms, most with room for folks to add their own touch. The facility served seniors aged 62 and up, offering assisted living, independent living, memory care, and continuing care, which meant people could stay if their health needs changed, and the staff, always available around the clock, included nurses, aides, and visiting specialists like podiatrists, dentists, physical therapists, and even home care staff, so residents could get help with medication, bathing, dressing, and more if they needed it, and there was a memory care section in a separate building for folks with dementia or Alzheimer's, even those with some challenging behaviors, as well as technology to keep residents secure, like special alarm bracelets to help prevent wandering. Meals focused on nutrition, with chef-prepared options including vegetarian and allergy-sensitive choices, and meal plans could change for folks with diabetes, low-sodium needs, or other restrictions, and residents could take meals in their rooms or join others in the café or bistro areas; snacks and small meals were available throughout the day and evening, making it easier for seniors who needed a little extra. Housekeeping and laundry service were part of the package, and rooms had climate control, cable, telephone, and Wi-Fi to keep things comfortable and help families stay in touch. There was a beauty salon, shower spa, and even a Jacuzzi room for a bit of pampering, plus raised gardening beds, patios, and walking paths outside, and for activities, the place offered everything from current events, art classes, music therapy, and poetry readings to physical movement with yoga, daily morning exercises, and even a singing group, plus outings three to four times a week to local museums, parks, and shows, which gave folks a break from the ordinary, and activity plans could be tailored for each resident. The management, Sunrise Senior Living, ran several locations, so they brought experience, and many staff members worked there for years, which helped with consistency and knowing what people liked or needed. Transportation was provided for errands and outings, and parking was free for residents and visitors; the place sat on State Route 117 near bus lines, helping family come and go without trouble, and it allowed outdoor smoking if someone liked to sit out with a cigarette. The site offered respite care for short stays, with hospice services and help for people who needed a mechanical lift or support with incontinence, making sure seniors with complex care needs could still call it home. Religious needs were met with on-site and offsite devotional services, including visits from a Rabbi and other faith leaders, and the community focused on low noise and minimal disruption, with the exterior largely unchanged since its old days, which helped it blend into the neighborhood and won support for historic preservation. The building's design met safety codes with sprinklers, fire alarms, an elevator, and emergency alert pendants, so safety was always a focus. Before closure in 2020, Sunrise of Weston operated as a welcoming place where older adults could live with comfort, support, and a real sense of belonging, while keeping the character of a much-loved landmark in the neighborhood.

    About Sunrise Senior Living

Beginning with a single community in 1981, there are now more than 280 Sunrise Senior Living communities throughout the U.S. and Canada. Each of our communities maintains the mission laid out by Sunrise founders Paul and Terry Klaassen more than 40 years ago: to champion quality of life for all seniors. The Klaassens’ vision to redefine senior care resulted in a resident-centered approach to care that focuses on the individuality of each resident and has set the standard in the assisted living industry. We are defined by our people. Our team of serving hearts are guided by our mission, Principles of Service and Values – all of which help encourage independence, preserve dignity and enable freedom of choice for each resident.
