    Caring active community, excellent services

I live here and love it - the staff are amazing and attentive, residents are warm and welcoming, and the atmosphere feels like a big, caring family. There are nonstop activities and clubs, excellent maintenance, very clean spacious apartments, good dining/restaurant options and convenient access to medical care and trails. The campus is beautiful and safe, with strong support services (PT/OT, memory care, hospice when needed) and helpful tour staff; pricing worked for me though I've heard cost is a concern for some. Highly recommend - I feel well cared for and happy here.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the reviews of Fairing Way Independent Living is strongly positive. The dominant themes are praise for the staff, the social environment, the physical accommodations, and the breadth of activities and services. Multiple reviewers call out the staff as friendly, attentive, compassionate, and often going beyond their roles to help residents. Specific staff members were singled out for positive care, and reviewers repeatedly recommend the community based on staff performance. Cleanliness, maintenance responsiveness, and a maintenance-free lifestyle with housekeeping are also recurring positives, creating a sense that residents can age in place comfortably.

Facilities and apartments receive high marks: reviewers describe the apartments as spacious, new, and well-decorated with desirable features such as walk-in showers, open-concept layouts, and attractive views (including decks overlooking a marsh and deer sightings). The campus and grounds are described as large and well-landscaped, with references to ample green space and trails. Amenities cited include workout rooms, an on-site movie theater, dog-walk areas, and a memory care unit. The facility is expanding (a new building/wing has opened), and that expansion contributes to the sense of a growing, well-resourced campus.

Dining and food service are generally seen as positive, with reviewers noting good menus, generous portions, and options such as lunch and dinner service, in-room dining, and meal delivery (especially valued during COVID). Some reviewers commented that more dining choices are coming, which suggests the dining program is evolving. However, a few reviewers mentioned inconsistency specifically in the bistro and variability in food experience among residents, which appears to be a less frequent but notable point of criticism.

Community life and activities are strong selling points. Residents and reviewers describe a lively social calendar with weekday and weekend activities, clubs (book, theater, bridge, religious groups), educational programming, special events, and an active activities committee. Many reviewers emphasize the welcoming, family-like atmosphere, friendships formed, and the feeling of never being alone. The community offers predictable monthly budgets and helpful financial arrangements; several reviewers highlighted a refundable entrance fee (noted as 95% refundable to the resident or estate) and favorable financial terms compared with other options.

Health and care services are available and appreciated. Reviewers note PT/OT via Wingspan, aides and nurses on site, hospice support, and accessible help when needed. Several reviews specifically praised compassionate caregivers and excellent hospice care. The community appears to have systems for keeping families informed (daily updates) and demonstrated responsiveness during COVID by implementing safety measures and providing meal delivery.

Areas of concern are fewer but consistent enough to mention. A number of reviewers reported occasional staff unresponsiveness or communication lapses, indicating that while staff are widely praised, experiences can vary. The bistro and some dining options were described as inconsistent by some residents. Cost and affordability are mixed: many reviewers call Fairing Way affordable compared to other facilities, but others explicitly said the price was unaffordable or a concern. The facility's ongoing growth and the opening of new buildings were described as "early-stage development" or "growing pains," which may create transitional challenges during expansion (e.g., consistency of services or finalization of amenities).

In summary, Fairing Way is portrayed as a well-regarded independent living community with many strengths: compassionate and helpful staff, attractive and spacious accommodations, a robust schedule of activities, solid on-site health supports, and a strong community atmosphere. The campus amenities, maintenance-free lifestyle, and favorable financial features (including a high refundable entrance fee for some contracts) are additional draws. Prospective residents should be aware of occasional communication issues, some variability in dining/bistro service, and that price perceptions vary among reviewers. The community’s expansion and new building openings signal growth and added offerings, but also suggest a period of adjustment for service consistency. Overall, reviewers overwhelmingly recommend Fairing Way and describe it as a safe, caring, and engaging place to live.
