    Bright caring community; minor issues

I moved my parent here and I'm very pleased: bright, spacious apartments with golf-course views, ample common space, lots of daily activities, great dining, and on-site memory care - renovations and updates only add to the appeal. The staff (Denise and the team) were warm, attentive, and made the move-in smooth; residents seem happy and the place feels safe and well run. Downsides: limited outdoor greenspace, occasional staffing/cleaning lapses, some pandemic restrictions, and care-plan/cost clarity could improve. Overall I feel my loved one is in good hands and I highly recommend it.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment: Reviews of AVIVA Country Club Heights are strongly positive in aggregate, with the most consistent praise focused on the staff, the welcoming community atmosphere, and the facility’s recent renovations and active lifestyle offerings. Many reviewers emphasize a personal, family-like environment where front-desk staff and leadership are visible, approachable, and frequently go above and beyond. Several staff members are repeatedly named and praised (most notably front-desk concierge Denise Bonugli and director/manager Brian), which highlights a pattern of individualized attention and strong concierge-style service.

Staff and care quality: The dominant theme is that staff are warm, professional, and attentive. Multiple reviews single out front-desk staff for greeting residents and visitors by name and for helping with move-ins and transitions. Nursing and therapy staff are often described as caring, patient, and supportive (with specific positive mentions of Nancy, Mary, Emmy, and Lucia). Maintenance and dining staff receive frequent compliments for responsiveness and accommodation, such as adjusting meals or addressing apartment needs quickly. However, there are notable exceptions: a handful of reviews report serious concerns about nursing responsiveness (including at least one account of a frail resident being left unassisted for an extended period) and a small subset allege decline or neglect following a management change. Staffing shortages and unfilled positions are mentioned in several places, which contributes to variability in the resident experience—most residents are very positive about care, but prospective residents who require frequent medical support should probe staffing levels and emergency response protocols.

Facilities, apartments, and environment: AVIVA is repeatedly described as clean, bright, and recently renovated. Reviewers appreciate the spacious common areas, new fitness center, renovated bar area, and social spaces that contribute to a vibrant, luxury feel. Apartments are generally described as sunny, safe, and comfortable; many reviewers praise soundproofing, golf-course views, and large rooms or full kitchens in two-bedroom units. That said, since the building was converted from apartments, unit sizes vary and some reviewers found certain rooms small or less comfortable than their prior apartments. Renovations are ongoing in some areas (e.g., rug replacements and other updates), which many view positively but could be disruptive during transition periods. Outdoor amenities are a weaker area: multiple reviewers note limited greenspace, no walking paths, and mostly asphalt around the building—important considerations for residents who prioritize outdoor walking areas.

Dining and daily life: Dining earns strong, mostly positive feedback. Reviewers highlight homemade soups, hearty breakfasts, daily specials, and accommodating staff who can adjust meals for dietary needs. The dining room is often described as pleasant and open, and service is generally friendly and attentive. A minority of reviews mention variability in meal appeal or specifically unappealing meals, indicating that food quality can fluctuate and may be subjective to individual tastes.

Activities and social engagement: One of AVIVA’s clear strengths is its active programming. Residents frequently comment on a robust and varied activities calendar—bingo, card games, Wii Bowling, Cornhole, Zumba, book club, travel programs, daily movies, and social hour are all mentioned. Several reviewers note that the activities team and executive leadership are personally involved in events, which fosters participation and community. COVID-era limitations were referenced as a past constraint, but current comments indicate the program is lively and nearly daily in many cases.

Operations, leadership, and move-in experience: The move-in process and tours are widely praised as smooth and informative. Management engagement—especially the executive director’s visible involvement in activities and responsiveness to concerns—is a recurring positive. Reviewers often describe good communication from staff, helpfulness during transition, and proactive maintenance. Conversely, some mention vague care plans or difficulty finding higher levels of care placements (SNF transitions) when needed; a few reviewers explicitly warn prospective residents to verify care-plan details and memory/assisted-care transitions.

Safety, cleanliness, and notable concerns: Most reviewers report a clean, odor-free facility with well-kept rooms and common areas. There are, however, sporadic complaints: occasional lapses in room cleaning, elevator concerns, and at least one serious safety-related incident where assistance was delayed. These issues are relatively infrequent in the dataset but are significant enough to warrant attention. Several reviewers also mention staffing shortages, which could exacerbate response times in medical or emergency situations.

Overall recommendation and considerations: The consensus among reviewers is that AVIVA Country Club Heights offers a warm, active, and well-appointed living environment with strong hospitality-oriented staff and a good range of amenities. It appears especially well-suited for residents seeking social engagement, comfortable apartments, and a supportive, family-like community. Prospective residents and families should, however, investigate specific areas before committing: confirm current nursing staffing levels and emergency response procedures, tour different apartment types to check unit size variance, ask about the schedule and impact of ongoing renovations, and verify outdoor/walking options if those are important. For those requiring high-frequency medical attention or absolute consistency in clinical responsiveness, it would be prudent to probe recent staffing stability and to request specifics about downtime/backup plans for nursing coverage.

In summary, AVIVA Country Club Heights receives broad praise for its staff, community atmosphere, dining, and amenities, with recurring commendation for individual employees who embody the facility’s welcoming ethos. While the majority of experiences are positive and many reviewers highly recommend the community, a small number of serious concerns about medical responsiveness and staffing variability suggest that careful, specific questioning during tours and discussions with management will help prospective residents and families make an informed choice.
