    Neglectful unsafe filthy unprofessional facility

I placed my mother here and immediately regretted it. Management is unprofessional and money-hungry - owner rarely present, staff treated families poorly, were often unresponsive or absent (even appeared sleepy/drunk), and I saw them enable a resident's addiction and kick someone out. Care was neglectful: constant urine odor, diapers left in the TV room and urine on the bathroom floor, tiny closet-like rooms, disgusting food and weak coffee, loud oxygen machine and a busy road so no sleep, hard beds. This place is a sad, unsafe dump - it should be audited and closed down.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the provided reviews is strongly negative, with repeated and specific complaints about sanitation, management, safety, and quality of care. Most reviewers describe serious cleanliness problems (urine smell, urine on the bathroom floor, and a diaper left in a shared TV room), which creates a pervasive impression of neglect and poor housekeeping. These hygiene issues are repeatedly tied to a broader narrative that this facility is a last-resort placement for limited-income residents and is not maintaining standards expected for a senior living environment.

Care quality and staff performance are reported inconsistently but lean negative overall. Several reviewers characterize staff as unresponsive or absent, and one report describes a staff member appearing sleepy or intoxicated, raising immediate safety concerns. There are direct allegations of neglectful care and even enabling harmful behaviors—one example given is staff buying alcohol for a resident—which suggests lapses in professional boundaries and abuse of duty. At the same time, one reviewer praises staff who "go above and beyond," indicating that some individual caregivers may be dedicated; however, that positive comment stands in contrast to the predominant reports of poor care and responsiveness.

Facility, comfort, and environment issues are commonly cited. Reviewers note uncomfortable beds and very small, closet-like rooms, which contribute to an overall sense that accommodations are inadequate. Noise is a consistent complaint: a loud oxygen machine inside rooms and traffic from a busy road outside are both mentioned as reasons residents cannot sleep. These environmental stressors, combined with sanitation complaints, paint a picture of a facility that may fail to meet residents' basic comfort and dignity needs.

Management and ownership receive substantial criticism. Multiple reviews accuse management and the owner of unprofessional behavior, dishonesty, and a money-focused approach—phrases used include manager lying to the owner, owner rarely present, treating families poorly, and being "money hungry." There are allegations of wrongful placement and even eviction of residents, which, along with calls for audits and suggestions the place should be closed, indicates serious trust and regulatory concerns from reviewers. The mixture of claims about management lying, poor oversight, and possible policy violations (e.g., enabling alcohol use) suggest systemic problems rather than isolated incidents.

Safety and security are recurring themes. Poor entry security is explicitly noted, and combined with reports of staff appearing intoxicated or sleepy, reviewers identify a tangible risk to residents' well-being. Comments that the facility is a "dump," "disgrace for seniors," or a "place of last resort" reflect an overall reputational problem among these reviewers, who urge external oversight or closure.

Dining and amenities receive negative remarks specifically about food quality and beverages—food described as "disgusting" and coffee and tea characterized as weak. No positive descriptions of meals, activities, or programming appear in the summaries. Visitor access is mentioned as a positive (open to visitors), but this single positive point is insufficient to offset the frequency and severity of the negative reports.

In summary, the dominant themes are unsanitary conditions, questionable and potentially unsafe staff behavior, uncomfortable living conditions, and dysfunctional management and ownership practices. While there is an isolated positive note about some staff going above and beyond and visitor access, the preponderance of specific complaints—urine on floors, diapers in common areas, allegations of enabling addiction, wrongful evictions, and poor security—indicates systemic problems that warrant investigation. Recommended next steps for someone evaluating this facility would be to seek independent inspections or audits, verify licensing and complaint records with regulatory authorities, and arrange an in-person visit focusing on hygiene, staff interactions, safety protocols, and management responsiveness before making any placement decision.

    About Pleasant Acres Rest Home

Pleasant Acres Rest Home is a retirement home at 107 Mountain St E in Worcester, Massachusetts, and since opening in 2009, it's been a small licensed rest home with 14 beds where seniors can get assisted living and long-term care from staff that's around at all hours, and they try to keep the place supportive and homelike with things like complete laundry service, help with medications, and meals from a menu that offers some choices, which can make living there easier for people who can't live by themselves. Residents have activities meant to keep them involved and their rooms come with some basic comforts, and even though there's no pet policy and they don't accept Medicare, the location's near a lot of local spots like nine cafes, four parks, many doctors, pharmacies, restaurants, and several hospitals, all within reach, so families know the neighborhood is pretty well connected. Staff is supposed to help with bathing, dressing, and other daily needs, but there have been several reports from people who've visited or had loved ones there saying some residents didn't always get the help they needed, and there've been mentions of the place not always smelling clean or looking well kept, which worries some folks, and there are accounts about staff sometimes being under the influence while on duty and not showing up to help when someone needed them, which can make families uneasy about safety. The reviews are quite low, only a 1.0-star rating from people sharing their experiences, and several mention concerns like neglect or management that isn't always honest or professional, and there's not a lot of oversight since the owner, Ms. Carol Cheli, isn't around a lot, causing some worry about leadership and how problems get solved. It doesn't have certification from Medicare or Medicaid and it isn't BBB accredited, but it's been active for quite a few years and is listed as a family-friendly community that tries to offer room amenities, meals, supportive care, and some social programs, trying to give residents a serene environment, though, based on what's said in reviews and feedback, some describe it as a last resort for families who can't find other options and wish there were more attention to safety, staff behavior, and cleanliness.
