    Spotless compassionate memory care facility

I placed my mom here and I'm very pleased - the facility is spotless and home-like, the staff are consistently friendly, attentive, and compassionate, and management communicates well. With all-inclusive furnished suites (TV/cable, phone option), 24/7 personalized and memory care, engaging activities and special programs, and hospice support, it's a very good choice I would recommend.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression Big Rapids Fields Assisted Living & Memory Care presents as a modern, well-maintained community with many strengths, particularly around cleanliness, physical plant, and a high level of reported caregiver attentiveness. Review content emphasizes a freshly built environment, furnished suites with climate control and call systems, and an array of included services (housekeeping, laundry, linen, towel and toiletry supplies) that simplify daily living for residents and families.

Care and staff A dominant theme is staff compassion and resident-centered attention. Many comments describe staff as kind, patient, and proactive, with examples of collaborative care planning and 24/7 oversight in the memory-care unit. Leadership and certain managers receive repeated praise for responsiveness and supportive oversight. At the same time, there are indications of variability in clinical-care consistency and past periods of staffing or administrative turnover; prospective families should confirm current staffing ratios and continuity during a tour and in written policies.

Dining The facility offers on-site meals prepared with fresh ingredients and several reviewers appreciated the kitchen staff. However, an operational pattern appears around inconsistent meal execution: menu variety and food temperature have been cited as areas needing improvement. Interested parties should ask about meal-service protocols, sample menus, and how special dietary needs and hot‑food delivery are managed.

Activities and social life Activity programming is frequently described as engaging, social, and varied (bingo, cookouts, puzzles, special programs like Birds of Prey). Family involvement is encouraged through events and day-to-day interaction. There is, however, some inconsistency reported regarding activity frequency or availability; clarifying the published activity schedule and staffing for programming will help set expectations.

Facilities and services The physical environment is a clear strength: new construction, tidy common areas, patios, and well-kept resident rooms. Suites are offered furnished with entertainment options and an option for landline service. The community also highlights hospice support and specialty services such as a Grief Doula, which may be important for families seeking comprehensive end-of-life supports.

Management, admissions, and payment Leadership receives positive comments for hands-on management and improved operations, but a subset of feedback raises concerns about admissions transparency and administrative communication. There is an explicit facility-level limitation in payer acceptance: Medicaid is not accepted; families should confirm payment options and billing terms in writing. Given notes about prior turnover and occasional communication gaps, prospective residents should request written admissions agreements, clear billing disclosures, and current staffing information.

Notable patterns and guidance for families Strengths cluster around caregiving culture, cleanliness, amenities, and bundled services; unique programs and hospice availability add to the community’s appeal for memory-care and assisted-living needs. Areas to verify during a visit include current staffing stability, specific meal-service procedures, the daily activity calendar, and formal admissions/billing policies (including payer acceptance). Those steps will help reconcile the generally positive operational profile with the variability some families experienced in care consistency and administrative transparency.

About Big Rapids Fields Assisted Living & Memory Care

Big Rapids Fields Assisted Living & Memory Care sits in Big Rapids, Michigan, and offers both assisted living and memory care services along with options for respite care, and this place really tries to understand the needs of seniors and their families, helping guide people through the choices that come with getting older, and there's a friendly local staff who focus on personal attention, dignity, and a caring spirit, with a reputation for being kind and respectful to the people living there. This community supports folks with help for daily tasks, memory programs for those with Alzheimer's or other dementia, and care plans that change if seniors' needs do, and residents get nutritious meals every day at set times, with special diets and quality ingredients if needed, and there's an award for Best Meals and Dining that came from reviews.

Rooms come as studio or one-bedroom options, with kitchenettes, and residents can use Wi-Fi and cable TV, while choices vary based on the level of help needed and pricing isn't listed publicly, but entry comes with a $750 fee and there's currently a $200 discount on the first five months for newcomers. The building's licensed, holds state license AL540402190, keeps things comfortable and home-like, and offers activities like bingo, gardening, arts and crafts, music, and there are live entertainers several times each month to keep spirits up; outings include shopping trips, and there's even a cinema and spa salon on site. Staff stays on call around-the-clock for care and housekeeping, including laundry and linens, and medication reminders and an on-site pharmacy make things simpler for residents, and people with disabilities or diseases get specific programs that fit their needs.

The grounds have parking for guests and a garden, everything's handicap accessible, and the whole place stays focused on safety, especially for those in memory care, so people with dementia have safe spaces and support for their minds, while still being able to make friends and join in activities. Residents who live there talk about the friendly, loving staff and forming friendships, and the verified average rating from reviews is about 4 out of 5 stars, or 7.2 out of 10, with community tours available for families to see what fits best. Payments can be made by check, staff ratios depend on residents' care levels, and pricing's all inclusive, without extra costs for things like administration or maintenance, and because Big Rapids Fields is locally owned, everything feels more connected to local life and the needs of the community.
