    Warm attentive staff, clean home

I placed my dad here and I'm very pleased - the staff are warm, family-like, attentive and genuinely caring, and he's comfortable and happy. The building is clean and well-designed with a nice dining room, great food, engaging activities and family-friendly events like picnics; close/hospice care options gave us peace of mind. I'd recommend this home-like, caring place for loved ones who need reliable support.

    Summary of reviews

Reviews present a mixed but instructive picture: frontline caregiving and the physical environment receive frequent praise, while operational and management-level issues appear as recurring concerns. Many accounts highlight warm, family-like interactions between staff and residents, regular engagement activities (including family-focused events), and a clean, well-maintained environment with an attractive dining room and well-regarded meals. These elements contribute to a home-like atmosphere that some families find well suited to their loved ones’ needs.

Care quality is generally described as attentive and compassionate at the staff level. Several reviewers emphasized that caregivers are personable and responsive, and that clinical offerings are appropriate for residents requiring routine assistance. However, there are reported inconsistencies in the facility’s memory-care oversight and in how certain behavioral or interpersonal resident issues are managed. Prospective families should inquire specifically about the memory-care program structure, staffing ratios, and supervision practices during a visit.

Staff culture appears bifurcated: many families and visitors praise caring, engaged employees who create a family atmosphere, while other comments indicate low morale, organizational disarray, and uneven treatment by some personnel. These operational variations seem tied to management performance; multiple reviews point to delays or gaps in managerial responsiveness and organization. This pattern suggests that care experience can depend on unit-level staffing and leadership stability.

Dining and activities are consistent strengths in the reviews. The dining room environment and meal quality are repeatedly called out positively, and organized activities, outings, and family events are described as meaningful engagement opportunities that residents enjoy. The physical facility is often described as elegant and well kept, although some reviewers noted areas with dated or dreary décor.

More serious operational concerns center on communication, privacy, and incident handling. There are reports indicating family members were not consistently notified about clinical events, and at least one mention raises questions about the facility’s handling of confidentiality. These items point to gaps in incident-notification protocols and privacy safeguards that a prospective family should address directly with management.

In summary, The Horizon Senior Living of Clare appears to offer strong hands-on caregiving, a pleasant dining experience, and engaging activities within an overall clean and comfortable environment. At the same time, prospective residents and their families should evaluate managerial responsiveness, memory-care oversight, incident-notification procedures, and privacy protections during tours and meetings. Recommended due diligence includes asking about leadership turnover, unit staffing levels, specific memory-care policies, emergency transfer protocols, and examples of how the facility communicates with families after clinical events.

About The Horizon Senior Living of Clare

The Horizon Senior Living II in Clare, Michigan, serves as a warm and welcoming place for seniors, run by a family with years of experience and operated as part of Baruch Senior Ministries. The facility is nonprofit, offering assisted living, independent living, respite care, memory care, nursing home services, and adult day care, all under one roof, so you'll see a mix of residents, some needing just a little help and some needing a lot more. Residents can have private or shared rooms, with most shared rooms set up for two people, and folks can bring their own small furniture, things like a favorite chair or nightstand, so the space feels familiar and comfortable. The building itself feels home-like, with decorations on the walls and indoor common areas where people gather, talk, or join in activities, plus there's a lounge, a dining room, and an activity room for games, movies, reading, or just relaxing. Staff are there around the clock to help with daily things like bathing, dressing, housekeeping, laundry, medication, and getting to the bathroom, and there's an emergency alert system for extra peace of mind.

Meals come cafeteria-style, three times a day, with snacks and special diets-like diabetic or allergy-friendly options-planned by chefs and meal planners who focus on healthy ingredients and taste, and the kitchen crew knows how to make adjustments to keep people well-nourished and happy. Horizon Senior Living II offers personalized care plans-this might be psychiatry services, medication help, diabetic management, incontinence care, and non-ambulatory care. They set up transportation for doctor's appointments, plus the place is wheelchair accessible, with walking paths outside so people can still get fresh air if they want to. There's a barber and beauty salon in the building, a garden, and an arts room for crafts or creative activities.

Social and recreational activities happen often, from exercise to group conversations, reading, devotional services, movie nights, and stimulating games, and there are programs for offsite trips, community events, and family involvement too, so relatives can stay connected and educated about their loved one's care. The nursing and care staff have a reputation for being helpful and joyful, and they aim to keep the atmosphere friendly and kind, making it more like a home than a hospital. Every effort goes to give residents the least restrictive environment possible, supporting independence, self-sufficiency, and social growth, while also offering help with whatever's needed each day. Veterans assistance is available, and they coordinate with outside agencies for things like home health, hospice, and physical therapy. The Horizon Senior Living II believes in compassionate, 24-hour support and plenty of activities, all while making sure folks get the care, comfort, and spiritual support they need.
