    Feels like home; highly recommended

I feel right at home at Colonial Villa - welcoming residents and a family-like staff (Jenni, the Resident Director, included) who are kind, compassionate and always responsive. The facility is very clean and comfortable with bright rooms, fantastic dining (chef receptive to needs), and attentive maintenance, housekeeping and dining teams. With abundant activities, outings, on-site PT/NP visits and reliable transportation, I have real peace of mind and would highly recommend it.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: Colonial Villa of Midland is consistently described as a community with warm, family-like staff and an active social program. Families and residents frequently highlight courteous, compassionate caregivers, attentive dining personnel, and leadership that often assists with administrative needs. The property offers a range of apartment types including larger studio-de-luxe units with kitchenettes and large windows, an on-site salon, courtyard and patio spaces, and on-site rehabilitation and nurse practitioner visits that support residents’ health needs.

Care quality and staffing: Reviewers often praise the compassionate tone and bedside manner of individual caregivers and leadership. Nursing and clinical services are available and generally thorough during daytime hours; the facility also provides useful health-data access and periodic nurse practitioner visits. However, a recurring pattern concerns inconsistent direct-care reliability — examples include uneven completion of daily tasks (bed-making, opening blinds, personal-care assistance) and variability in how caregivers meet expectations. Nighttime clinical coverage appears limited, and staffing variability can affect continuity of care.

Dining and nutrition: Dining staff are repeatedly noted as a strength: attentive servers, a receptive onsite chef, and well-set dining rooms. Meal experiences are mixed however; the facility uses a combination of pre-made meals (contracted/premade items) and chef-prepared specials, which has produced variable food quality and resident satisfaction. The dining program also includes assigned seating and organized meal service that many families find comforting.

Activities and social programming: The community offers a broad activity schedule — games, music, aerobic classes, movies, pottery, regular outings and transportation, and seasonal/region-specific meals. Residents who engage with programming report a strong sense of community and frequent opportunities for socialization and purposeful activity.

Facilities and amenities: The building is regularly described as clean, bright, and well maintained, with helpful maintenance and housekeeping teams. Outdoor amenities include a courtyard garden and patio, though reviewers also note limited dedicated outdoor space overall. Some units are notably spacious with extras such as sinks and refrigerators; other units are smaller and reflect the property’s older construction. Vertical circulation is constrained by a single elevator, which can be a practical limitation.

Management, communication, and safety: Management and many frontline staff receive positive comments for responsiveness and helpfulness; families frequently cite proactive administrators and staff who facilitate insurance and transition issues. At the same time, communication systems (including digital notifications) are uneven, and there are operational concerns around medication storage and locking mechanisms that require attention. Reviewers also raised concerns about resident property security and the need for clearer, more consistent staff task follow-through. Memory-care suitability is limited — the setting is not recommended for residents with advanced wandering or combative behaviors.

Notable patterns for prospective families: The strongest and most consistent positives are the interpersonal qualities of staff, the active programming, and the clean, home-like atmosphere. Operational weaknesses to weigh include direct-care consistency, medication-storage controls, variable meal sourcing and quality, limited overnight clinical coverage, and some building constraints (smaller units in parts of the building, single elevator, limited outdoor space). Overall, Colonial Villa appears to provide a warm, activity-rich environment with many supportive services, but families seeking highly consistent clinical coverage, secure memory-care programming for residents with significant wandering, or uniformly chef-prepared meals should clarify these operational areas during a tour and follow-up conversations with management.

    About Colonial Villa of Midland

Colonial Villa of Midland is a senior living community with independent living, assisted living, and memory care for seniors, so folks there can choose their level of care from active, healthy living all the way to round-the-clock support, dementia care, and short-term rehabilitation. The building has air conditioning, a working elevator, large common areas such as a fireplace lounge and central dining room, and plenty of sitting areas, and you'll find a library where residents can read or relax. Apartments have a sitting area, kitchenette, private bathroom, good storage, and comfortable space to bring favorite things from home, and for those who need them, there are fully furnished respite apartments.

Colonial Villa provides three chef-prepared meals a day, with menu choices cooked to fit special diets like heart-healthy or gluten-sensitive, and an executive chef plans the meals using the best ingredients. Residents get weekly housekeeping and linen service. The care team, including dedicated aides and nurse practitioners, monitor health, offer help with daily tasks, and provide care for those who need it, plus there's 24/7 emergency support and assistance with mobility, which is important because safety comes first at Colonial Villa. There's acute and postacute rehabilitation, skilled nursing, in-house physical therapy, and staff take vital signs and track health data, making it easier for families and staff to stay informed using digital reports.

Outings, wellness programs, and daily activities, including social events and devotional services, are always part of life here, because an on-site Activities Director keeps the calendar full, and when residents want to get out, transportation helps them reach appointments, shopping, or events around Midland. The place is pet-friendly, with dogs and cats welcome in assisted living apartments, and both indoor and outdoor common spaces let folks spend time however they enjoy. Beautician and barber services are available on-site, and there's customer parking as well as wheelchair-accessible showers and public spaces.

Families say the staff are caring, mindful, and treat everyone like mothers, fathers, grandmothers, or grandfathers, and the culture is all about comfort, compassion, and respect. Colonial Villa is family-owned and run, so you get a sense of a personal touch. For seniors who still live at home, there are home care services offering companionship and non-medical help, but for those who live at Colonial Villa, support focuses on encouraging residents to be as independent as possible. The facility's got specialized areas to fit unique needs, supports those with Alzheimer's and dementia, and strives to give each resident the right level of support in a community setting, with professional staff always available.
