    Warm, clean care with activities

I'm very pleased with Butternut Tree - Marty and Bonnie run a warm, welcoming home with exceptionally clean, cozy spaces, attentive and compassionate staff, great food, on-site physical therapy, and plenty of activities (including music) to keep residents engaged. My grandmother is happy and well cared for with personalized attention, regular photo updates and 24/7 availability; I highly recommend them.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: Reviewers consistently emphasize a high level of day-to-day care and an environment that families find reassuring. Cleanliness and orderliness are repeatedly highlighted, and multiple accounts describe the facility as comfortable and home-like. Families and residents frequently report that their loved ones adjusted well and appeared content in the setting.

Care and staff: The facility receives strong, consistent praise for caregiving staff. Reviews describe staff as compassionate, attentive, and responsive, with around-the-clock availability. Several mentions underscore personalized attention and staff willingness to tailor care to resident needs. Communication with families — including regular photo updates — is noted as a positive practice that helps maintain family confidence.

Clinical services and dining: Clinical-support offerings mentioned include on-site physical therapy and accommodations for special dietary needs, suggesting some level of coordinated health and nutrition support. Dining is characterized positively, with reviewers citing good food and staff responsiveness to dietary requirements.

Activities and social environment: The activity program is a clear strength. Reviewers note a variety of engaging options, including musical activities and other recreational programming that contribute to resident engagement and well-being. The facility’s backyard and tranquil grounds are cited as pleasant outdoor spaces that support a calm, homelike atmosphere.

Facilities and management: The facility’s physical environment is widely described as clean, cozy, and well maintained. Ownership and management are portrayed as sincere and welcoming; several families commented on approachable owners and a cooperative managerial style. These managerial attributes appear to support the quality of care and family communication reported.

Notable patterns and considerations: The dominant positive themes are cleanliness, compassionate staffing, active programming, and strong family communication. The main operational limitation raised is accessibility: at least one review identified a room on an upper floor accessed by steep stairs, which suggests prospective residents with mobility limitations should verify elevator availability and first-floor options. Prospective families should tour the physical layout and confirm specific mobility accommodations as part of their evaluation.

Recommendation guidance: For families prioritizing cleanliness, personalized attention, active programming, and close family communication, this facility aligns with those priorities. For residents with significant mobility needs, confirm accessible unit availability and transfer procedures before making a placement decision.

    About Butternut Tree Assisted Living

Butternut Tree Assisted Living sits in a quiet, shady neighborhood on Butternut Tree Court in Flint, Michigan, with only six residents living there at a time so everyone gets attention and help when they need it. Owners Marty and Bonnie are involved in the daily care and they work with qualified, screened, and caring staff to make sure each person feels like family. The building is set up like an upscale home with ADA-compliant bathrooms, emergency pull cords, and private laundry in the units. You can choose from a studio, single-bedroom, or even a two-bedroom apartment, each with all the usual appliances, cable TV, internet, and washers and dryers. Residents have private space but there's also a dining hall, a big balcony if you want to sit outside, and outdoor garden areas. Staff helps with all kinds of daily needs: bathing, dressing, mobility, eating, toileting, and medication. Folks can get help with diabetes care, special diets like vegetarian or pureed food, and there are menus from the chef with meals served in the dining area, and sometimes special parties for holidays or occasions too. The place has activities every day, whether you're wanting arts and crafts, education programs, games in the activity room, or just to relax in the theater or library and reading section. Some enjoy using the computers, using the Wi-Fi, or calling loved ones from their rooms, and there's transportation to doctor visits or other medical appointments. Residents can get personal care and moving assistance if needed, and the house is set up with safety features like sprinkler systems and monitored security, especially for those needing memory care for Alzheimer's or dementia. Staff work with each resident and their loved ones on individual care plans, and if somebody needs help moving in or getting around, that's sorted out too. Folks living at Butternut Tree Assisted Living have all kinds of backgrounds and care needs, and the home offers different levels of support, from independent living to long-term skilled nursing and hospice care, including short-term respite and adult day services. There's a sense of routine and a focus on socializing and kindness, with meals, social activities, fitness, and even massage services sometimes. Owners and staff try to send photos and updates to families so everyone knows how their loved ones are doing. With only a small number of residents, everyone knows each other, and the place has a home-like, comfortable feel, surrounded by trees in a friendly part of Flint Township.
