    Beautiful lakeside community, compassionate staff

I live at Magnolia by the Lakes and I'm very happy here - beautiful lakeside grounds, gorgeous apartments, five-star meals, and a plethora of activities that keep days full and social. The family-owned, hands-on owner and a warm, professional staff (Tina, Zeke and so many caring caregivers) treat residents like family, provide attentive, compassionate care, and make this feel like a true second home. I highly recommend Magnolia for anyone seeking a safe, welcoming, beautifully maintained community with excellent food and attentive staff.

    Summary of reviews

Magnolia by the Lakes draws strongly divided impressions. Many reviewers praise the campus for its attractive lakeside setting, well-kept grounds, and recently upgraded apartment interiors. Units are frequently described as spacious and well-appointed — large bathrooms with walk-in showers, walk-in closets, in-room washer/dryers, and quality cabinetry are commonly cited. The facility offers a broad set of on-site amenities (pool with lift, mini-golf, shuttle service) and an active calendar of social programming; these features support an engaged, social atmosphere for independent and assisted residents.

Care and staffing elicit mixed feedback. Numerous comments celebrate compassionate, family-oriented caregivers, a hands-on owner presence, and staff who form strong relationships with residents. At the same time, other reviewers describe variability in staff engagement: some aides are characterized as inattentive or slow, and reviewers note instances of missed services and inconsistent adherence to care plans. Several accounts raise concerns about emergency responsiveness and follow-up communication to families; these point to gaps in incident response procedures and in how clinical events are communicated to relatives. There are also broader concerns about dementia support — reviewers described insufficient dementia-appropriate activities and safety protocols for residents with cognitive impairment, which has implications for families seeking memory-care supports.

Dining and activities are often cited as strengths. The on-site chef and dining team receive frequent praise for generous portions, tailored dietary accommodations, themed meals, and a hospitable dining atmosphere. Activity programming — themed dinners, patio gatherings, and a daily activity calendar — contributes to a socially active environment. That said, some reviewers indicated inconsistent meal quality or portioning at times and described certain assisted-living common areas as smaller or dated in appearance.

Management, billing, and admissions processes are recurring themes. Several families note a positive, reassuring tour experience and direct owner involvement during the sales process. Conversely, other reviewers describe difficulties reaching management after move-in, defensive responses to complaints, and what they characterize as opaque billing: a la carte charges, additional security deposits, and extra fees for higher-level care. Some reviewers also allege high-pressure sales tactics or room-assignment changes after admission. There are isolated, serious claims concerning medication-management practices and concerns following a resident's death; these are described as individual allegations rather than a documented pattern in the available commentary.

In summary, Magnolia by the Lakes offers many features that appeal to prospective residents: a well-maintained campus, upgraded living units, strong dining, and a robust activity schedule. However, prospective residents and families should weigh those positives against reported operational variability. Recommended due diligence includes asking for written policies on emergency response and dementia care, clarifying all potential extra fees in the admission contract, verifying staffing ratios at different times of day, and observing the community during mealtimes and activity periods. Speaking directly with current residents and families and requesting documentation of licensing and care-plan procedures can help families determine whether the facility’s strengths align with their specific care needs and expectations.

    About Magnolia by the Lakes

Magnolia by the Lakes sits by Cass Lake and Sylvan Lake, where the views are peaceful, and the sunsets are bright and colorful, and people often like to spend time just looking out over the water from their balcony or the lakeside park. The place has five stories with different choices for living, like penthouses, two-bedroom or one-bedroom villas, plus studios, and many of these homes have full kitchens, big windows, washer and dryer, and wide, safe walkways and bathrooms with slip-resistant floors and roll-in showers that work well for older adults. Some villas come with private patios or balconies, and a few have dens or extra bathrooms, and there's extra space for storage with walk-in closets and granite countertops in the kitchen.

The community runs on a European-style layout, and there's an indoor Village Square where people can sit for coffee or walk around, and many folks appreciate the friendly white-gloved concierge who helps with daily needs, and there's always a staff member nearby for help, day or night, if needed. Residents can pick from independent living or assisted living, and there's memory care and nursing home care, too, so someone can stay as their needs change. The team helps with moving, selling homes, planning furniture, and settling in, and there's a full-time Activities Coordinator who puts together things like yoga, Chair Zumba, movie nights, board games, educational talks, and walking or book clubs, so you never feel bored if you want to join in. There's housekeeping, laundry, help with groceries, and even an on-site home care agency and hospice available.

People like to eat together, and you'll find a private dining room, a café and bistro, meal choices from all over the world, and a menu that includes gluten-free, vegetarian, low-salt, and low-sugar meals, with a chef and room service if needed. Some days there are buffets, pizzas, or Asian and Southern food, and folks sometimes take their meals outdoors or eat with guests in the guest suites. The place is built for convenience with a 24/7 receptionist and security, individual mailboxes, free cable TV, fast Wi-Fi, and parking, plus a shuttle to take you into town or to appointments, so you don't have to worry about driving unless you want to. People get around easily, too, thanks to the climate-controlled Harbor Walk that connects buildings with views of both lakes, and you can find places to sit or walk without feeling rushed.

Medical care is handy, with on-site physician offices and a medical center that holds a fitness space, therapy pool, rejuvenation clinic, and a Benevento Fitness Club offering exercise classes, plus there's a library, reading room, arts and crafts, piano and organ, fireplace in the common room, beauty salon, barber shop, TV lounge, movie room, and meeting spaces. The outdoor options are nice, too, with a sun patio, mini golf, walking paths, and seasonal cruises on Cass Lake, and every week, folks can step onto a boat or just sit near the water if that's more comfortable. All the services, from daily meals to around-the-clock care, focus on safety and comfort, and people say the atmosphere is friendly, with residents coming together for parties, holidays, and volunteer work, so you can make new friends if you want, and staff make sure everyone knows what's happening each week.

Magnolia by the Lakes gets strong reviews, with families mentioning its caring team, engaging activity schedule, and good food variety, and the community keeps scores high for safety, helpfulness, and how well it fits most lifestyles. With nearby parks, churches, pharmacies, and medical facilities, people can feel that they're in a real neighborhood, surrounded by things they need on a daily basis, and the staff stay friendly and respectful, letting residents be as independent as possible but always ready to give a hand where it's asked for.
