    Warm, clean, caring Christian facility

I toured and moved my relative in and had a very positive experience. The owners are warm and Christian, staff (Crystal especially) are caring and knowledgeable, the place is extremely clean in a lovely country setting, meals are home-cooked daily, and the doctor oversees medications - definitely worth a look.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: Review comments portray New Haven Pines as a small, well-kept facility in a rural/country setting with a homelike atmosphere. Visitors and new residents frequently described the interior as clean and the grounds as attractive. Several reviewers praised the admissions experience and named staff who provided helpful guidance during tours and move-in, contributing to a positive initial impression.

Care and staff: Reviewers generally characterized caregiving staff as caring and knowledgeable, and noted attentive, friendly interactions. At the same time, a subset of comments raised concerns about clinical practices that bear follow-up: specifically, questions about how medications are controlled and administered, and observations that suggested inconsistent monitoring of residentsโ€™ positioning and mobility needs. Prospective families should ask about the facilityโ€™s medication-administration protocols, oversight responsibilities (including how the attending physician and nursing staff coordinate), staffing levels, and routines for checking and assisting seated or immobile residents.

Dining, activities, and facilities: The facilityโ€™s dining was described positively โ€” reviewers mentioned daily, home-cooked meals prepared for residents. Beyond meals, reviews included limited detail about structured activities or engagement programming; reviewers who were satisfied did not often elaborate on recreational offerings. The facilityโ€™s cleanliness and well-maintained environment were consistent themes; however, families interested in social programming and activity schedules should request specifics during a visit.

Management and family experience: Ownership was described as family-oriented and faith-based (Christian), and that hands-on orientation was reflected in helpful admissions staff and an orderly move-in process. Conversely, a few comments indicated families had difficulties or frustrations relating to communication or support during care transitions. Those patterns suggest prospective residents and their families would benefit from direct conversations about family-staff communication protocols, care-plan updates, and how management handles concerns.

Bottom line and recommendations: New Haven Pines appears to offer a clean, home-like setting with attentive staff and home-cooked meals, making it worth considering for those who prefer a small, faith-affiliated community. Before deciding, ask the facility for written medication-management policies, examples of supervision/monitoring practices for residents with limited mobility, staffing ratios, details about activity programming, and how family communication is handled. These targeted questions will help clarify the operational areas that reviewers highlighted as strengths and those they flagged for further inquiry.

    About New Haven Pines

New Haven Pines sits in a peaceful spot in Lenox Township, Michigan, just west of New Haven and close to hospitals and the shops in Clinton Township and Sterling Heights, so families can visit easily and residents can get to appointments without hassle, and it's a small six-bed Adult Small Group Home, which gives it a family feel and lets everyone know each other, and the staff can give more attention than you'd find in bigger places. There's a secure keypad entry and a 24-hour video security system, so wandering or safety risks get handled quickly, especially in the special area made for people with Alzheimer's and dementia, where bracelets and a computerized alert system catch if someone leaves a safe area, and all bedrooms stay air conditioned with private or semi-private baths, giving people their own space and comfort year-round. Nurses and aides work around the clock, taking care of diabetes management, medication help, incontinence needs, spoon feeding when needed, bathing, stand-by or assisted transfers, and even mechanical lifts or two-person assists, so folks with different health challenges can keep living mostly on their own terms. There's a registered nurse available and monthly doctor check-ups along with preventive health checks, and hospice care can come in for end-of-life needs, which helps families feel steady through hard times. There's no smoking allowed anywhere inside, so it stays clean and healthy, and pets are allowed, adding some company if folks want their animals nearby, and there's walking paths, landscaped gardens, porches, air-conditioned rooms, and patios out back and front so everyone has some space for quiet or social time. Services include home-cooked meals, special diets if you need them, and all utilities covered, so bills don't pile up, and there's a community dining room, therapy rooms, high-definition TVs, arts and crafts studio, movie nights, and rooms set up for games or entertainment, plus daily health and fitness activities to keep folks moving and involved. They offer transportation for appointments and outings, and even for visitors, so getting around isn't a problem at all. Maintenance, apartment upkeep, and medication management are included, and a barber or beautician visits for hair and nail care right on site. There are set times for residents and their families to meet, but visiting stays flexible, so no one feels rushed. Support covers residents with higher care needs, including dementia and behavioral issues, with special technology to prevent wandering, and staff receive Alzheimer's and dementia training. The small group setting means care fits each person, and it's meant for those who don't need full-time nursing home care, so it's often less costly while still covering a wide range of support, and the property is wheelchair-accessible throughout. New Haven Pines doesn't take Medicare unless certified, and it's licensed and checked by Michigan or local authorities, so the rules and safety stay followed. People looking for a small, friendly, country setting with hands-on care for daily needs, memory concerns, and medical or end-of-life support will find New Haven Pines fits those circumstances, with a steady, personal environment for seniors and their families.
