    Friendly caring staff, comfortable suite

I'm very satisfied with my experience here - the staff are friendly, caring and skilled, and the facility feels well-run. My suite is clean and comfortable, meals are delicious with special-diet options, there's 24/7 assisted and hospice care, plus nice common areas (fireplace room, couches, TV with piano/organ), laundry and salon services, and a good variety of activities while the community transitions to new ownership.

    Summary of reviews

Overall sentiment in the reviews for Prairie Home Fieldcrest is strongly positive, with repeated emphasis on compassionate, capable staff and a clean, comfortable living environment. Reviewers consistently describe staff as friendly, caring, skilled, and attentive; several comments highlight that the facility is well-run and that residents receive round-the-clock care. The availability of hospice and assisted living services is noted, and reviewers describe positive experiences with care quality, indicating that both routine assistance and end-of-life support are handled professionally.

Facility and accommodations are viewed favorably. Multiple reviews praise the cleanliness and maintenance of the building and individual rooms, and suite-style accommodations are mentioned specifically. Common areas like a fireplace sitting room are singled out as inviting, and the presence of couches, a TV area with a piano/electric organ, and other comfortable gathering spaces contributes to a homelike atmosphere. Practical on-site services that reviewers appreciate include laundry facilities, cleaning services, and a salon—elements that support residents’ daily needs and convenience.

Dining receives consistently high marks. Reviewers describe meals as delicious and home-cooked, and several note that the staff are attentive to special dietary requirements. Positive comments about food quality are frequent and contribute to overall resident satisfaction. The availability of laundry and cleaning services alongside good dining options reinforces a perception of comprehensive daily support.

Activities and social programming are present and generally appreciated, with mentions of a variety of activities offered. However, a clear theme across multiple reviews is a desire for more weekend activities; some reviewers feel programming is thinner on weekends. This shortcoming is commonly linked to staffing constraints, with reviewers indicating that limited staff levels sometimes reduce the frequency or variety of events, particularly outside standard weekday hours.

Management and operational context is another notable pattern. Several reviews mention that the facility is undergoing an ownership or management transition. While reviewers still express confidence in current staff and services, the transition is flagged as a source of uncertainty and is associated with staffing changes or efforts to add more staff. Staffing constraints are the most significant operational concern raised: they affect activity scheduling and, implicitly, the ability to expand services. Some reviews indicate ongoing improvements or an intention to hire additional personnel, but the transition period is something prospective residents and families should be aware of.

In summary, Prairie Home Fieldcrest is portrayed as a clean, well-maintained, and well-run senior living option with strong staff performance, good meals (including accommodations for special diets), and useful on-site amenities and services. The primary areas for improvement are increased weekend programming and resolving staffing limitations that currently constrain activities and possibly other services; these issues are mentioned in the context of an ownership transition that may be addressing them. For families prioritizing compassionate caregiving, clean facilities, strong dining, and available hospice/assisted living support, the reviews suggest Prairie Home Fieldcrest is a solid choice, while those for whom robust weekend activity schedules are a top priority should discuss programming and staffing plans with management during tours or admissions conversations.

    About Prairie Home Fieldcrest

Prairie Home Fieldcrest in Cottonwood, MN, offers senior living that covers a range of care needs, starting with independent living for folks wanting a maintenance-free lifestyle and continuing through assisted living, memory care, and skilled nursing. The place helps with daily activities like bathing, dressing, eating, and getting around, along with medication management and meal preparation three times a day, and the kitchen staff work with special diets for things like diabetes and allergies, so there's support no matter your health situation. Fieldcrest has a licensed nurse on staff, trained caregivers round the clock, and a personal pendant call system in case someone needs help fast, and seniors can expect everything from monthly RN check-ins and help with medical monitoring-like blood pressure and blood sugar checks-to extra services like oxygen management and foot care.

The living spaces there are single-story, wheelchair-friendly, and include four different room sizes, each with a full bathroom, a little kitchenette, and individual temperature controls so everyone stays comfortable and safe, with smoke detectors and sprinklers installed just in case. Meals are home-style and eaten in a dining room that's set up for every season and holiday, and family can come join too, and after the meal, there's a sunroom full of plants, family lounges with fireplaces, a piano, and big TVs, and outside you'll find vegetable gardens, a backyard pond for bird watching, a patio, and sidewalks made for strolls. Housekeeping and laundry come weekly, and they'll even handle dry cleaning, and for anyone who needs it, staff can help with moving in, set up transportation, schedule social or medical trips, and offer church or devotional activities either at Fieldcrest or out in the community.

Community life includes both Fieldcrest-organized and resident-run activities, movie nights, group exercises with equipment, crafts in the arts room, gardening, or music in common spaces, plus spiritual care from chaplains and options for aromatherapy, pet therapy, and grief support for those taking part in hospice or end-of-life care, which Fieldcrest and its parent organization have been providing since 1984. Those facing memory loss will find safe, locked environments and specialized programs with memory-enhancing activities and 24-hour supervision, while folks in need of skilled nursing get round-the-clock medical care and support with tasks that go beyond daily living. Volunteers help out as well, the building's tobacco-free except for a courtyard area, and everybody can enjoy simple comforts like furnished rooms, all utilities including cable TV, and daily mail and trash pick-up.

Fieldcrest belongs to the larger Prairie Home community care group, which also runs two residential hospice houses-Lockwood House and McLaughlin House-and provides in-home and respite care, with teams made up of certified doctors, nurses, aides, chaplains, and volunteers. Staff focus on building personal relationships, working to honor residents' choices and keep a sense of dignity, and families are always encouraged to get involved, even cooking or celebrating holidays together in the dining room. They offer individualized service plans, work closely with each person's healthcare providers, and try to help every resident stay as independent as they want to be, with support always available if someone's needs change. You can find more about them at prairiehomehospice.org, but if you need to know how it feels, the place is friendly and laid back, with a long history in the Cottonwood area and a clear focus on comfort and community.
