    Beautiful facility and compassionate staff

I'm very pleased with our experience - a beautiful, spotless, home-like facility with well-kept grounds and a peaceful, vibrant atmosphere. The family-owned team (Faith, Samantha, Rhonda and the Connor House staff) are compassionate, knowledgeable, and truly go above and beyond; meals, amenities and active social programming (Bingo, outings, visits) keep residents engaged. The move was smooth, communication was responsive, and I have real peace of mind knowing my loved one is well cared for - I highly recommend.

    Summary of reviews

Reviewer sentiment is strongly polarized: many families describe a clean, attractive campus with compassionate frontline caregivers and a strong sense of community, while a significant number raise operational and clinical concerns that materially affect resident experience. Positive accounts emphasize welcoming staff, bright and spacious apartments, a variety of social activities and outings, and coordinated therapy and transportation. Critical accounts concentrate on persistent staffing shortages, management follow-through, and clinical-service gaps.

Care and staff: Numerous reviews praise individual caregivers and nursing aides for warmth, responsiveness, and personalized attention; several employees were named for exemplary service. At the same time, staffing instability is a recurring theme. Reviewers describe long response times to care requests, inconsistent medication timing, and gaps in clinical follow-up. These patterns are associated with delays in basic care, episodic medication errors (omissions or incorrect administration), and concerns about skin- and continence-care follow-through. For prospective residents who require higher levels of clinical oversight, reviewers suggest the facility may have limited capacity to provide reliable, continuous nursing-level care.

Dining and housekeeping: Many residents and families report varied menus and generally positive meal service, with multiple entree options and accommodating kitchen staff. However, other reviews note inconsistent food quality, issues with dining cleanliness (dishes and utensils), and uneven housekeeping practices. Housekeeping and maintenance are described as responsive by some families, but sanitation and dining-surface concerns are raised often enough to be considered an operational inconsistency rather than an isolated event.

Activities and social environment: The facility is frequently described as vibrant, with a broad mix of activities—exercise classes, bingo, casino trips, religious services, and smaller social groups—that support an active lifestyle. That said, activity quality and availability are reported as variable: some reviewers find events engaging and well-run, while others find programming poorly led or limited to weekdays, reducing options for weekend engagement.

Facilities and safety: The physical plant receives consistent praise for clean, well-lit common areas, inviting courtyards, separate family spaces, and comfortable apartments. Conversely, some reviewers report older or run-down sections—particularly in parts of memory care—along with courtyard safety concerns. Safety-system and emergency-response gaps are reported (for example, concerns about monitoring, man-down responses, and evening coverage), and reviewer narratives suggest these are tied to staffing patterns and training shortfalls.

Management, policy and business practices: Feedback about administration is mixed. Some families highlight responsive communication, a helpful marketing team, and well-managed transitions. Others describe poor administrative follow-through, perceived focus on occupancy or finances over care, staff-management churn, and billing or refund disputes. Agency-staff reliability and on-boarding/training quality are additional management-level concerns cited across reviews.

Notable patterns and takeaways: The strongest pattern is variability—positive experiences are frequently anchored by dedicated staff members and visible amenities, while negative experiences correlate with understaffing, turnover, and management gaps that produce inconsistent clinical and operational performance. Memory-care and higher-dependency services are areas where reviewers most often advise caution. Prospective families should assess current staffing ratios, emergency-response systems, medication-management protocols, recent staffing turnover, sanitation practices in dining, and the facility’s written scope of care and billing/contract terms during visits. Observing multiple shifts, asking for recent inspection or quality metrics, and meeting direct-care staff can help clarify whether the facility’s strengths will be reliable for a particular resident’s needs.

    About Hillcrest Silver Ridge

Hillcrest Silver Ridge sits in the middle of Gretna, and has 81 apartments with several floor plans, including studios plus one- and two-bedroom apartments, some over 1,000 square feet. This community's newly renovated buildings and quiet, landscaped courtyards offer a peaceful setting with easy access to nearby shopping, parks, restaurants, hospitals, and banks. Residents can choose private rooms with kitchenettes, including options for assisted living, independent living, memory care, and respite care stays from a week up to a month. The memory care area has two secure cottages called Connor House and Langdon House, each with private suites, bay windows, and room for keepsakes, and there's help from staff around the clock. There's a nurse on staff and caregivers provide daily support for bathing, dressing, hygiene, medication management, and other needs. Housekeeping, laundry, and linen service are included, and residents can choose self-service if they'd like. Seniors can get help with diabetic and incontinence care, and staff are trained for dementia care, non-ambulatory needs, and gentle therapies like reminiscing and light activities.

Meals come from Greenie's Restaurant with three chef-prepared dishes daily, and special diets like low sodium or no-sugar are available. There's a pub called Dragons, Scoops Ice Cream Shoppe, a gift shop, a salon and spa, and a movie theater called Silver Cinema. Indoor and outdoor walking paths, a koi pond, a gazebo, and raised gardening beds make it easy to get outside. Apartment buildings are wheelchair accessible with full tubs and showers, and the whole place allows for "aging in place," which means residents don't have to move as their needs change. There's scheduled transportation for shopping, banking, medical appointments, and other errands, plus community events, support groups, and opportunities to socialize.

Hillcrest Silver Ridge provides many ways for residents to stay active and connected, including religious services for several faiths, arts and crafts, a billiards lounge, a library, and a computer room with Wi-Fi and internet. Spaces for movies, music, games, and gatherings are available, and there's a fitness center and whirlpool spa. Devotional services, activities on and off-site, and frequent events create an environment where seniors can make friendships and enjoy each day. Staff are noted for being kind and helpful, and awards for the Best of Senior Living and Best Activities mean the programs keep people engaged and active. The building operates 24 hours a day, has a state license (ALF224), and all care plans are adjusted to each person's changing needs. Pets aren't allowed, and there are no buy-in or membership fees, just monthly rent that includes health services. Residents also benefit from Hillcrest's home-care aides when needed. The calm, cheerful atmosphere and strong support for every stage of senior living set Hillcrest Silver Ridge apart for those looking for simplicity, comfort, and dependable care.
