    Modern clean community caring staff

I toured this brand-new, modern senior living community and was impressed by how clean and well-kept everything is. The staff - from the manager and tour guide to nurses, cooks and activities directors - were friendly, caring and capable; they offer a full activities calendar, three meals a day, transportation to stores and two dining areas. Plenty of space in assisted living; I'd recommend it for loved ones who want some help while staying independent.

    Summary of reviews

Highland Village of Elko presents a mix of clear strengths and notable operational concerns. The facility is new and modern, with a well-maintained interior, tidy common areas, and multiple dining spaces. Reviewers consistently praised many direct-care employees and management: staff are often described as friendly, caring, and thoughtful, and the on-site manager and some team members receive specific commendation. The community offers three meals per day, transport to local stores, an activities calendar with staff and volunteer involvement, and roomy assisted-living common areas that some families found comfortable.

At the same time, there is a pattern of serious clinical and operational issues that prospective residents and families should consider. Several accounts raise concerns about clinical care processes — specifically catheter management, infection-related complications, and skin-integrity care — which in some cases resulted in hospital transfer. These descriptions point to gaps in clinical oversight and protocol adherence rather than isolated cleanliness comments alone. Relatedly, reviewers identified sanitation and preparation shortfalls on occasion, suggesting inconsistent implementation of clinical and hygiene procedures.

Staffing and responsiveness emerge as mixed areas. While many caregivers are described as compassionate and attentive, other reports indicate inconsistent responsiveness to resident needs, phone communication lapses, and instances when emergency calls or fall responses were delayed or poorly handled. The facility’s staffing mix and training are recurring themes: reviewers noted an absence of CNAs on staff and described some team members as inexperienced, indicating a need for enhanced clinical staffing and targeted training to address skill gaps.

Operationally, families raised concerns about the maintenance of safety systems (for example, resident call/pull-cord functionality) and about family communication and visitation policies. Some described restrictive visitation practices and what they perceived as inflexible or revenue-focused policies; others praised management and recommended the facility. Dining is generally viewed positively in terms of regular meals and quality, but several reviewers said therapeutic or special-diet accommodations were not consistently provided, which is important for residents with dietary restrictions.

Overall, Highland Village of Elko offers a modern environment with engaged activities and many caring staff members, but the variability in clinical practice, emergency-system reliability, staffing composition, and family communication suggests that prospective residents and their families should ask targeted questions during tours. Recommended topics for inquiry include clinical staffing levels and credentials (including CNA availability), protocols for catheter and wound care, emergency-response and call-system maintenance, dietary accommodations, visitation policies, and examples of staff training and quality-improvement efforts. These clarifications can help families weigh the facility’s strong environmental and social features against the operational risks noted in several accounts.

    About Highland Village of Elko

Highland Village of Elko sits in Elko, Nevada, offering older adults many levels of care, so you'll find independent living, assisted living, memory care for folks dealing with dementia or Alzheimer's, and a skilled nursing facility if that's what's needed, and honestly, they cover just about any care you might require, from outpatient services to rehabilitation through their Highland Inn Bounce Back Rehabilitation Program. The campus includes Highland Estates Retirement Apartments for independent seniors wanting things like housekeeping, help with meals, with studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom choices that come with kitchens, bathrooms, and walk-in closets, while those needing a bit more help get personal care plans made just for them, so medical support from registered nurses and caregivers is always nearby, and medical needs like diabetic care, incontinence care, and high acuity care happen right on site, plus folks have access to physical, occupational, and speech therapy inside their rehabilitation center. People living with memory issues benefit from Memory Lane fitness for the mind, a memory care program that keeps residents' minds engaged through gentle activities and routines, and the community's overall design includes features that help residents with dementia or Alzheimer's stay comfortable and safe in a bright and supervised space. The place doesn't allow pets, but it offers a lot of social and leisure options, like card games, puzzles, devotional activities both on and offsite, and movie nights, and they organize outings to parks, restaurants, and local places of worship if people want to get out for a bit. There's AJ's Fitness Center and Wellness Program, which has exercise equipment set up for seniors, so anyone wanting to keep moving can try something suited to their needs, and for spiritual needs, the staff will help get people to religious services and devotional activities away from the building. Residents eat together in a dining room where they're served restaurant-style meals, and the staff prepares food that works with special diets when necessary, plus everyone gets complimentary wireless internet, regular housekeeping, and access to recently renovated indoor and outdoor common areas, which give people places to relax or gather together, and the whole place tries to feel welcoming instead of clinical. The campus is pet-free, but it features safe, outdoor areas and walking paths for anyone wanting fresh air, and the whole environment is set up to be supportive and community-focused, so people have the chance to stay independent, engaged, and comfortable, whether they're there for long-term living or just short-term rehabilitation.
