    Caring staff but safety concerns

I'm torn. The place is small, clean, and close to home - my mom had a large, nice room with a patio, meals she loved, daily baths and attentive caregivers who were on site around the clock. That said, the owner seemed disorganized, communication and record-keeping were poor, I observed misleading updates (I was told staff were coached), and activities were minimal. Most alarmingly, our relative suffered injuries (hip fractures), was moved out of bed, belongings went missing, and I believe staff tried to keep her sedated and bedbound. Given the safety, theft and management concerns, I cannot recommend this facility despite the caring staff and low cost.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the reviews for Evergreen Residence is mixed and polarized: several reviewers praise the staff, home-like environment, cleanliness, and affordability, while other reviewers allege serious management, safety, and ethical problems. Positive comments emphasize attentive, caring caregivers, a small-facility atmosphere with 24/7 staff presence, and hands-on owner involvement. Multiple reviewers described large, adequately furnished rooms, an outdoor patio, the ability to personalize and rearrange rooms, and daily baths or routine personal care that made family members comfortable. The facility is noted as being close to some families and as offering pricing that can be attractive when waivers are applied, producing a perception of good value for money for some residents and families.

Care quality perceptions diverge sharply. On the positive side, several summaries highlight friendly, caring staff and attentive caregivers who provide regular assistance and personal care. Mealtime experiences were described favorably by some ("mom loves the meals", "meals looked good"), and simple recreational options such as puzzles, games, TV, and piano are present. However, other reviewers raised very serious concerns about resident safety and management practices. Reports include alleged improper bed transfers that led to injuries (hip fractures), claims that staff were coached to mislead families, that information was withheld, and that record keeping is poor or nonexistent. One reviewer gave a very strong warning to avoid the facility, and another described alleged attempts to keep a patient sedated and confined to bed. These are significant red flags relating to both clinical care and ethical treatment of residents.

Facility and daily life details are fairly consistent across reviews: Evergreen Residence is described as a small, older home with minor upkeep needs that is nonetheless kept clean. Bedrooms are generally called adequate and furnished, with at least one reviewer noting a large room and the ability to rearrange it. The small scale contributes to a home-like feel and closer staff-resident interaction, but reviewers also noted limitations: activities are limited and staff can be busy, which reduces engagement opportunities. Nutrition is a mixed point — while some residents reportedly enjoy meals, at least one comment suggested nutrition could be improved.

Management, communication, and safety concerns form the most important pattern to note. Multiple summaries cite disorganization, lack of record keeping, poor communication and updates to families, and allegations that staff were instructed to mislead or withhold information. There are also specific allegations of theft of personal equipment and keepsakes (oxygen concentrator, wheelchair, keepsake), and concerns about relocations during the COVID period. These issues—administrative disorganization, inadequate documentation, communication breakdowns, and claims of theft or physical harm—are serious and appear in multiple negative summaries.

In synthesis, Evergreen Residence presents as a small, affordable, home-like facility with caring staff and basic, clean accommodations valued by some families. At the same time, the negative reports describe potentially severe lapses in management, documentation, safety, and ethical conduct. Because of the starkly conflicting feedback—ranging from satisfied family members praising staff and meals to allegations of injury, sedation, theft, and deliberate misinformation—prospective residents and families should exercise caution. Specific follow-up actions would include visiting in person during different times of day, asking for incident and medication records, requesting references from current families, clarifying theft and security policies, verifying staffing levels and training, and observing staff-resident interactions before making a placement decision.

    About Evergreen Residence

Evergreen Residence sits at 1305 Kings Ct in Reno, Nevada, in the Old Northwest - West University area, surrounded by nearby pharmacies like Sav-On Drugs, Albertsons Pharmacy, Dons Pharmacy, Walgreens, and Campus Pharmacy, with Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center less than a mile away, and you'll find about 29,000 people living in the zip code 89503, so there's plenty going on all around. Evergreen Residence is a Residential Care Home licensed under #3275-AGC-21, with an 8-bed capacity and offers assisted living, independent living, memory care, and continuing care services for those who need help with daily life or special health needs. The facility partners with hospice, home health, and home care services, which means folks who live there can get extra support when health needs change or grow more serious. There's a big focus on comfort and safety, with shared and private rooms, some furnished and some with a kitchenette, plus wheelchair accessibility and an emergency alert system. Residents get personalized care plans and daily help with things like bathing, dressing, meal preparation, mobility, and medication management, with 24-hour supervision, and staff are encouraged to present professional communication, though sometimes families have felt left out of the loop about their loved one's health updates.

Meals are prepared on site with special diets in mind, including options for allergies and diabetes, and dining happens in a community setting, where people can find a bit of conversation or just enjoy a warm meal, and there's a garden, walking paths, and scheduled movie nights, along with housekeeping, laundry, transportation, and parking provided. It's a cozy place, with just 8 units, which gives it an intimate feel and allows for owner involvement in the day-to-day running of things, and the staff tries to offer personal attention, though some have raised concerns over disorganized record keeping, coaching staff on what to say to families, and belongings, including keepsakes or medical equipment, going missing after residents pass. Sometimes, there's been trouble with staff moving residents against doctor's orders, which is something to talk about if considering a stay. The facility accepts pets, so animals can stay with their owners, and residents can join in planned activities, movie nights, and socialize, with options for supportive care if someone's health condition or disability requires it. Evergreen Residence has received community awards for meals and friendliness and is listed on platforms like A Place For Mom, where seniors and their families can read reviews and see more information, and offers scheduled tours for those who want to see everything in person before making a decision. The facility has a brochure you can download and an online form for more details or tour scheduling, though some families have reported a lack of updates after admission. Owner and staff try to keep things clean and welcoming, and there's always someone around to offer help, though as with any place, it's wise to consider both the good parts and the areas where things haven't always gone smoothly.
