    Caring staff, loved one thriving

I chose this place and I'm glad I did. The staff and leadership (Linda, the director) are phenomenal - caring, responsive and trustworthy - and my loved one is thriving (care level improved to level 3), kept clean, engaged in meaningful activities, and loves the aviary, garden, patio and sunshine. It's family-like, social and gives me real peace of mind. Not perfect - occasional unprofessional behavior, missed call lights and meals we didn't prefer - but overall I highly recommend this warm, accommodating community.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the submitted review summaries is strongly positive, with the majority of comments emphasizing the quality of direct care, the warmth of the staff, and the facility’s pleasant environment. Reviewers repeatedly highlight compassionate, hands-on caregivers and an engaged nursing and leadership team. Multiple families reported that staff members show genuine interest in residents, provide timely updates to families, and create a welcoming, family-like atmosphere that contributes to both resident comfort and family peace of mind. Specific praise is given to the director of care services (named Linda in several summaries) for being available day and night and for being responsive and engaged.

Care quality and clinical support are prominent strengths. Reviewers note that residents are kept clean, well-dressed, and comfortable, and some families observed measurable improvements in resident condition—one summary explicitly mentions a resident moving from the highest level of care down to a lower level (level 3), which families attributed to the facility’s attentive care. The facility also offers hospice and respite options and is described as having a compassionate nurse presence. Many reviewers contrast the care here favorably against previous memory care experiences, indicating higher trust and satisfaction.

Amenities and environment receive frequent commendation. The community is described as aesthetically pleasing with murals, a bird aviary or birdcage, garden and back patio, expansive outdoor areas including a putting green, and sunny porches that support outdoor time. These elements combine with lively activities and a cheerful ambiance to create an engaging daily life for residents. Reviewers mention meaningful activities happening regularly, an active social environment with friends and weekly family visits, and improved eating habits for some residents. The combination of well-kept indoor spaces and outdoor features appears to be a notable differentiator in family satisfaction.

Management, staffing, and organizational culture are recurring positives. Multiple summaries reference prompt and responsive leadership, a trusted and family-oriented company culture, and diligent staffing that accommodates resident needs. Several families explicitly recommend the community, citing worry-free experience, peace of mind, and confidence in the facility’s capabilities. The variety of room layouts and the availability of a broad range of care options were also called out as practical strengths that help meet diverse resident needs.

While overwhelmingly positive, the reviews also reveal some consistent caveats and a few sharper criticisms that prospective families should note. Several reviewers say the community is "not perfect" and has "room for polishing," pointing to minor operational flaws without always specifying details. Dining satisfaction is mixed—there are isolated mentions that some meals were not liked. More significantly, there is at least one strongly negative account describing unresponsive staff, unanswered call lights, and an unresponsive director; another mentions unprofessional staff behavior and an inappropriate display near the entrance that created a bad first impression. Although these negative reports appear to be in the minority, they are important outliers because they touch on critical areas (responsiveness and professionalism) that directly affect resident safety and family trust.

In summary, the aggregate picture is of a memory care community with many strengths: caring and accessible staff, engaged leadership, compassionate clinical support, pleasant aesthetics and outdoor amenities, active programming, and generally high family satisfaction and recommendations. However, there are a few recurring and one or two isolated negative reports—primarily around meal preferences, minor operational shortcomings, and at least one serious complaint about responsiveness and professionalism. Prospective families should weigh the strong positive pattern of caregiving and environment against those isolated concerns, and when touring the community they may want to ask about call-response protocols, staff training and professionalism standards, dining options and flexibility, complaint escalation processes, and recent measures taken to address any operational gaps. This balanced approach will help confirm whether the consistently praised strengths are present and whether the management has addressed the occasional issues cited by reviewers.

About Summerset Senior Living - Memory Care and Adaptive Care

Summerset Senior Living - Memory Care and Adaptive Care sits in North West Reno and provides care for adults aged 55 and older who need memory care, adaptive care, or respite care. The staff supports people with Alzheimer's, dementia, Parkinson's, Huntington's, ALS, and other conditions. Residents can age in place because the care changes as people's needs change, and the facility uses personalized care plans for each resident. The Memory Care Team and the Adaptive Care Program provide support for those with mild to severe memory needs and for those with more complex conditions. Help with daily tasks like bathing, dressing, grooming, medication reminders, and eating is available all day and night. There's always someone there to help, and residents can also get help with physical health through daily health checks, medication management, and fitness programs like low-impact exercise, yoga, and walking groups.

Memory care residents have safe and secure living spaces that help prevent wandering, including locked entrances and exits, with common areas and plenty of outdoor areas like gardens and walking paths. There's a dedicated focus on activities that help memory, like puzzles, memory games, music therapy, art classes, and reminiscence therapy. Residents can join group outings to places like parks, theaters, and historic sites, or stay in and attend events, workshops, and music groups. There are different room choices-private, semi-private, or studios-and residents can personalize their living space with their own things. The entire facility is built to be accessible with grab bars, wheelchair access, and features like Hoyer lifts for those who need them.

Community areas include a physical therapy room, a whirlpool spa room, an exercise gym, indoor and outdoor lounges, a sports bar and entertainment center, an ice cream parlor, theater, meditation rooms, an arts and crafts area, a library and computer center, and even a pet-friendly dog park. Scheduled housekeeping, linen services, laundry and dry cleaning, apartment and grounds maintenance, and free transportation to medical appointments are part of everyday life. There's an in-room emergency alert system and alert pendants for safety.

Meals come from chef-prepared menus with options for all diets, including special plans for diabetic, heart-healthy, and low-sodium needs. Residents can eat all day from 7 AM to 7 PM at the table-service dining room, fireside dining room, bistro, or nostalgic soda shop. The staff helps monitor fluid intake and provide snacks to keep everybody hydrated, and communal dining and meal assistance help people socialize and eat well. Family involvement is encouraged with regular updates, family support groups, educational events, and care planning meetings.

Summerset keeps people engaged with things like chair yoga, walking groups, memory activities, music, art, reading, and social events-all aimed at supporting independence and well-being. Staff receive memory care training, including The Virtual Dementia Tour, so they understand the challenges residents face. Care plans adapt to changing needs and focus on safety, dignity, and emotional support. The goal is to keep a steady routine, reduce stress, and maintain as much independence as possible for every resident.
