    Compassionate staff and seamless care

I've been very impressed with the compassionate, professional staff and top-notch nursing - they respond quickly and create resident-based care plans that transition seamlessly across Assisted Living and higher levels of care. The peaceful Keene-area grounds, clean well-kept building (with a new state-of-the-art wing underway), efficient meals/laundry, active resident programs and strong infection-control standards make this a warm, family-like community I highly recommend.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression is mixed but leans positive: many reviewers describe attentive, compassionate nursing staff and a responsive care model that supports transitions across levels (assisted living through skilled nursing). The facility's management and administrative teams receive favorable mentions for leadership and for overseeing ongoing renovations and a state-of-the-art addition. The campus setting and maintained grounds are frequently cited as attractive, and resident-centered activities and a family-like atmosphere are recurring strengths.

Clinical care observations are generally positive in numerous accounts: reviewers highlight professional caregiving, individualized resident plans, and a strong focus on infection-control protocols. Several reviewers praised the nursing teams by name and noted efficient operational systems such as meal service and laundry. Dining quality is often described as a positive feature, and activity offerings include direct resident involvement and programming tailored to residents' needs.

However, an important pattern of operational concerns appears across other reviews. Cleanliness and sanitation are described as uneven; some areas and rooms are characterized by sanitation concerns and odor issues tied to incontinence care. There are also allegations of medication-management errors and distribution problems, which suggest gaps in medication-administration controls and record-keeping. Relatedly, a subset of comments raises concerns about staff professionalism, tone of communication, and inconsistent responsiveness — issues that appear linked to variable staffing levels and uneven oversight, particularly in older wings of the building.

Facility condition and experience can vary by unit: several reviewers emphasize the positive difference in renovated, state-of-the-art areas versus older sections of the building. Rehabilitation services drew mixed feedback, with some families describing effective therapy and others indicating inconsistent rehab outcomes or supervision. Management is actively investing in upgrades and construction, which many see as a net positive; at the same time, prospective residents and families should be aware of operational variability during and after renovation phases.

For prospective residents and families: the facility demonstrates clear strengths in staff compassion, resident programming, dining, and campus amenities, and active management attention to improvements. At the same time, inquire directly about current cleaning and incontinence-care protocols, medication-administration safeguards, staffing ratios and turnover, and recent quality indicators for rehabilitation and clinical incidents. A tour that includes both renovated and older areas, discussions with nursing leadership about recent corrective actions, and conversations with current families can help reconcile the facility's generally positive attributes with the operational concerns noted by some reviewers.

    About Maplewood Nursing Home

Maplewood Nursing Home is a nonprofit skilled nursing care center that's open 24 hours a day, with 150 beds for residents who need intermediate and skilled nursing care, and the staff there-folks known for being helpful, joyful, and kind-work together to keep things friendly and homelike, so anyone walking in can feel like they're in a safe, welcoming place, where you can count on 24-hour supervision, a call system in every room, and an emergency alert system in case a resident needs quick help. Maplewood provides many levels of care: independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing, memory care for Alzheimer's and dementia, and there's a special behavioral management unit too, offering a range of therapies like physical, occupational, and speech therapy, plus long-term, palliative, and hospice care for those who need comfort at the end of life.

Residents can get help with bathing, dressing, taking medicine, moving around, and daily tasks, and meals are cooked fresh every day with dietary needs in mind-balanced and nutritious so residents stay healthy-while staff manage all the cleaning, laundry, and even dry cleaning. You'll see arts rooms, a dining room, barber and salon, a garden, walking paths, transportation and parking, plus a telephone in every room to help everyone stay in touch with loved ones. Social and activity life is lively too, with community activities, indoor and outdoor events, programs designed to engage the mind and body, and memory care that gently aims to reduce confusion or prevent wandering, earning Maplewood some awards for their activity programs, friendliness, and support.

Some folks live in cozy furnished spaces, others in residential care homes with live-in caregivers to help them with dressing, bathing, and whatever is needed, always with the goal of keeping life feeling as much like home as possible and helping each person maintain dignity and purpose. Nursing care is always there, with licensed professional staff and the support of the Maplewood Auxiliary Association, a group that works through fundraising to improve daily life for residents. The whole place runs with a clear mission to meet the physical, social, emotional, and spiritual needs of everyone in their care, offering individual support, holistic attention, and specialized programs to keep residents engaged and supported whether they're active and living independently or need more steady help, with plenty of social and recreational activities to brighten the days, and a certain sense of dignity and care that seems to shape everything at Maplewood, which right now has a user rating of 4.1 out of 14 reviews and keeps an active Facebook page for the community.
