    Kind attentive professional family-run care

I placed my father in this small, family-run residence and was very pleased. The staff were kind, attentive and professional-clean, homey rooms, nourishing meals, clear communication, and compassionate, personalized care that made our family feel welcome. I'd recommend them and would use them again, with only minor room for improvement.

    Summary of reviews

Overall sentiment across the reviews is strongly positive, with recurring praise for personalized, compassionate care delivered in a small, home-like setting. Families repeatedly emphasize that staff treat residents as individuals rather than room numbers, providing attentive and respectful care that preserves dignity. Many reviews highlight the facility’s 29-bed size and family ownership as central to its warm atmosphere — residents receive individual attention, staff form close relationships with both residents and families, and owners and nursing leadership are hands-on and highly involved.

Care quality and staffing are consistent themes. Reviewers frequently call out the kindness, compassion, and professionalism of nurses and aides, and several note that the director of nursing and ownership provide strong leadership and clear communication with families. Staff are credited with going beyond the call of duty — examples include extra treats like ice cream, meaningful personal touches, attendance at family funerals, and becoming friends to families during difficult times. Families express confidence and peace of mind in the clinical and emotional care their loved ones receive, and multiple comments describe the facility as “well run,” “clean,” and “safe.” Several reviewers also singled out high-quality, nourishing meals and all-inclusive billing that simplifies budgeting.

The facility’s size and character shape both strengths and limitations. The small, residential location contributes to a warm, quiet, and comfortable environment that many families prefer over a larger, more institutional setting. Activities mentioned (puzzles, games) and the home-like arrangements reinforce this appeal. However, that same smallness means the facility is not the most modern; several reviewers explicitly note it lacks bells and whistles or high-tech amenities. A practical limitation reported by at least one reviewer is difficulty arranging visits to a resident’s personal doctor, suggesting some constraints in off-site medical transport or coordination. One review also referenced “old-fashioned” staffing practices (no set work schedule, no benefits), which may relate to behind-the-scenes workforce issues, though that concern was mentioned infrequently.

Staffing is another nuanced area: while families overwhelmingly praise individual caregivers, some expressed concerns about nurse staffing levels during daytime hours and a desire for more daytime nursing coverage. This appears to be the most consistent operational shortcoming mentioned across the summaries — not a criticism of staff skill or compassion, but a note about resourcing and coverage. Management and ownership involvement is seen positively in most accounts; reviewers describe proactive COVID precautions, strong communication, thoughtful admissions and move-in processes, and owners who make families feel welcome and supported.

In summary, Little Senior Residence is depicted as a small, family-owned skilled nursing home that prioritizes individualized, compassionate care in a clean, homelike environment. It is repeatedly recommended by families who value personal attention, excellent food, predictable billing, and staff who become emotionally supportive during difficult times. The main trade-offs are its smaller, older-facility feel and limited modern amenities, plus occasional concerns about daytime nursing coverage and logistical limits (such as transporting residents to personal physicians). For families seeking a caring, home-like setting with strong personal attention rather than a high-tech or large institutional facility, the reviews indicate Little Senior Residence is a very strong choice.

    About Little Senior Residence

Little Senior Residence sits in Montclair, New Jersey, inside a big old Victorian home that's been around since 1960, and the place still feels like a family home, with all sorts of rooms and cheerful touches, and it's run by registered nurses, three generations of them actually, so folks get care from people who really know their work. This is a 3-story building with 29 beds, tucked away on a quiet residential street, and there's room for families to visit and park too. The facility gives different levels of care, including assisted living, skilled nursing, memory care for those with dementia or Alzheimer's, long-term stays, and even short-term or respite care if a caregiver needs a break, all in one place, so seniors can stay comfortable even if their needs change over time.

Around the building, residents can join in social activities, arts and crafts, educational programs, or take fitness classes, and there's a whole game room, plenty of indoor and outdoor spots to gather, plus areas for devotional services if they want. There's Wi-Fi, cable TV, kitchens or kitchenettes in the rooms, washers and dryers, and even wheelchair-friendly access everywhere, with a working sprinkler system for safety. Trained staff offer health and wellness help, laundry, personal care, wound care, and meals planned by chefs, served in a dining room that feels like part of the home. There's a salon and barbershop, therapy staff for physical, occupational, or speech needs, and personal assistants to help with daily things, walking, or moving around in wheelchairs.

Staff keep up their training so they can provide the best care and everyone gets a personal care plan, set up to meet health or memory care needs and to help with recovery after illness. Folks can stick to their own routines but join in scheduled events to stay active and connect with others, and the place is known for making things feel homey and supportive without losing sight of safety or high-quality care-even the billing is kept simple so it's easy to keep track of. Families say the staff treat everyone with respect and warmth, and with only 29 residents at once, things never feel too crowded or busy. For people who want to live as independently as possible, but might need some extra help, or for those who need more nursing or memory support, Little Senior Residence does its best to meet real needs without a lot of fuss.
