    Caring, active community with amenities

I'm very happy with Longview - it feels like a second family and residents easily make close friends. Staff are caring and supportive, programming is excellent (Ithaca College partnership, shuttles, chorus, classes) and there are constant activities and amenities: indoor pool, fitness rooms, greenhouse, library, movie theater, dining hall with varied meals, and a beautiful view of Cayuga Lake. Comfortable, well-kept apartments with in-unit laundry and multiple care levels let you preserve independence and truly age in place.

    Summary of reviews

Longview Senior Living Community presents as a well-resourced, campus-style nonprofit with many features that appeal to active older adults and families seeking a continuum of care. Strengths repeatedly cited include a broad activity schedule, an institutional partnership with Ithaca College that augments programming and access to cultural events, on-site amenities such as a library and movie theater, and transportation/shuttle services. The campus setting and lakefront location are frequently described as attractive, and several apartment configurations (including two-bedroom units and in-unit laundry) support independent living and aging in place.

Care and staffing impressions are mixed but trend positive on average. Numerous comments emphasize attentive, friendly staff, individualized care approaches, and 24/7 nursing availability across multiple care levels. Many families reported that staff preserve resident independence and provide compassionate support. However, there are also recurring accounts of inconsistent staff conduct and responsiveness, including delayed responses to call lights and concerns about how clinical incidents are communicated to families. These contrast with the positive caregiving experiences, indicating variability in day-to-day staff performance rather than uniformly poor or excellent care.

Dining and activities are among Longview's notable programmatic strengths. Reviewers commonly describe restaurant-style dining, a wide variety of menu offerings, and pleasant dining-room settings. At the same time, some families found dining policies to be inflexible and noted extra charges for certain meals, suggesting that fee and meal-policy transparency may be an area for clarification. The activity program — clubs, chorus, quilting groups, classes tied to the college partnership, and frequent outings — is consistently highlighted as a social asset that helps residents form friendships and remain engaged.

Facility amenities receive largely positive remarks for cleanliness and upkeep in many areas, with specific praise for the pool, fitness rooms, greenhouse, and well-maintained library. Conversely, there are reports of uneven housekeeping and maintenance in parts of the facility, and some units are described as small or dated and as having a more institutional appearance. Reviewers also express a desire for more ground-level, apartment-like units for those who prefer single-level living.

Management and administrative themes are a significant area of concern in the feedback. Several critiques point to perceived weaknesses in executive-level accountability and responsiveness, with references to regulatory complaints and legal scrutiny in some accounts. Families also raised issues about perceived high cost, non-transparent fee practices, and occasional equipment-maintenance gaps. These operational and governance concerns appear to drive the most serious dissatisfaction, distinct from the day-to-day programming and caregiving that many residents value.

In summary, Longview offers substantial programmatic and amenity-based advantages — particularly for residents seeking an active, campus-oriented community with educational and cultural ties to a local college. Prospective residents and families should weigh those strengths against variability in staff responsiveness, inconsistency in housekeeping and memory-care experiences, and questions about administrative transparency and pricing. Visiting multiple unit types, asking for recent regulatory history and clarity on fee structures, and meeting front-line caregiving teams during a site visit would help families assess whether Longview’s overall environment aligns with their clinical and lifestyle expectations.
