    Attentive staff enabled quick homecoming

I had a very positive short-term rehab stay. The nurses, CNAs and therapy team were attentive and skilled, staff kept our family informed, and activities made it feel like home. Clean facility with great views and a strong focus on getting patients back home - I'd recommend it.

    Summary of reviews

These reviews present a mixed picture of Norwich Rehabilitation & Nursing Center. Recurrent positive themes include a well-regarded therapy department (PT/OT), an active activities program, and a number of nursing and CNA staff who are described as caring and competent. Several families cited effective short-term rehabilitation outcomes and helpful dietary or kitchen staff, and common spaces and scenic views are often noted as pleasant. These strengths suggest the facility has functional clinical and enrichment resources that can support recovery and engagement.

At the same time, there are consistent operational concerns that appear across reviews. Staffing instability — particularly nights and weekends — and long waits for assistance are frequent themes. Those staffing gaps are linked in the reviews to delays in medication administration, inconsistent personal care and bathing routines, sanitation and odor issues in resident rooms, and longer response times to toileting or hydration requests. Multiple accounts describe medication timing or delivery errors and delays, as well as instances where hospital discharge or physician orders were not followed promptly; these indicate gaps in medication-management and care-plan adherence processes.

Safety and mobility are another area of concern. Several reviewers described problems with transfers, wheelchair confinement practices, and post-operative mobilization delays; collectively these suggest weaknesses in transfer-safety protocols and inconsistent rehabilitation scheduling. Family communication and administrative responsiveness are also uneven: some families praised proactive updates and supportive case managers, while others described dismissive or unhelpful administrative responses and limited visibility into care-planning. A number of reviewers stated they filed complaints with regulatory agencies, reflecting the seriousness of their concerns.

Dining and ancillary services received mixed feedback. The kitchen and dietary staff are praised in many accounts for effort and menu variety, but other reviews cite cold meals, food-service inconsistencies, and dietary management problems for residents with diabetes. Laundry and personal-property handling were also singled out as inconsistent, and a subset of comments raised sanitation or pest-control concerns in particular units or rooms despite generally positive notes about common-area cleanliness.

Overall, the facility appears to offer strong therapeutic and activity resources with capable individual caregivers, but performance is uneven across shifts and departments. Key patterns for prospective families to consider are staffing consistency (especially nights/weekends), medication-management controls, hygiene and sanitation processes, transfer and mobility safety protocols, and the responsiveness of administration to family concerns. Visiting, case-management engagement, and therapy scheduling are important to confirm during tours. If choosing this facility, families may want to ask specific questions about staffing ratios by shift, medication-administration safeguards, care-plan compliance procedures, diabetic meal management, and how the facility handles incident reporting and family communication.
