Bermuda Village Retirement Center sits inside the gates of Bermuda Run Country Club less than ten minutes from Winston-Salem, offering independent living in Villas and Condos where folks actually own their homes rather than paying big fees up front, and there's a whole range of support for every stage of later life, from independent living and assisted living to memory care, nursing, and short-term rehab, and residents can adjust their care as their needs change so they don't have to move away. You'll find a family-friendly feeling with a focus on caring connections, and people can enjoy all sorts of amenities like gardens with ponds and water features, a putting green, walking paths, green patios, and peaceful grounds-there's even a Gene Hooks Japanese Memorial Garden for quiet moments. The place feels homey, with shady entrances, hanging ferns, stone chimneys, bright bedrooms with corner windows, updated kitchens, and living rooms made for relaxing, plus common areas with elevator access for easy movement and dining choices that include a Bistro, a pub, and a private room for special meals. Medical help's nearby too, thanks to an on-site clinic run by Wake Forest Baptist Health, and there's always support available for those that need extra help either daily or as their memory needs change. The community stays active with things like wellness classes, indoor heated pool, full-time personal trainer, Lifelong Learning at Wake Forest University, clubs such as Wine Club and Village Voices, a woodwork shop, a library with computers, a hair salon, a chapel for Sunday worship, and outdoor spaces for dogs and gardening, and if anyone needs help getting around, there's ADA transport. Folks enjoy golfing on two courses, social gatherings, and activities planned by staff, making it easy to stay connected. Everything's set up to let people age in place, with care available for every stage and services like home health, adult day care, therapy, and supportive care, all in a close-knit, gated community where neighbors know each other by name.

Upscale active community, pricey, limited-care
I placed my mom here and was impressed by the friendly, attentive staff and the upscale, beautifully maintained campus. Our spacious apartment with kitchenette, two bathrooms and walk-in closets felt like home (we brought our own furniture); daily cleaning and spotless common areas were great. The dining room is gorgeous and the food was generally excellent with varied menus and chef specials, and there are abundant amenities and activities (pool, gym, outings, movie nights, Bible groups, dancing) plus transportation and responsive medical assistance. Downsides: it's pricey, meals are often not included and add up, and they couldn't provide the 24/7 nursing care we later needed. Overall, a lovely place where my mom thrived - great for active seniors, but costly and not suited for full-time medical care.
