    Caring staff, lovely facility, issues

I placed my loved one here and overall I'm glad we did: the staff are friendly, caring and attentive, the facility is bright and well-kept with lovely interiors, good food and engaging activities where residents make friends. Memory care and nursing staff are experienced and coordinated things like dialysis and insurance when needed. That said, staffing shortages and turnover have caused inconsistent communication, occasional cleanliness issues and intermittent dining closures, and there have been frustrating billing and management hiccups. Despite a stressful, costly move and a price increase, my loved one is happier and thriving, so I'd recommend this place with some reservations.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment: Reviews of The Charlotte are largely positive about the daily lived experience for many residents, with repeated praise for caring, patient, and attentive staff, a strong sense of community, and high-quality memory care. Multiple reviewers explicitly called it the "best" memory care facility, noting experienced and loving caregivers and residents who are thriving. Common favorable observations include friendly servers and good food, bright and comfortable apartments, well-kept common areas and interiors, and a family-like working environment where staff treat vendors and residents warmly. Several reviewers said the facility made life better for their loved ones compared to living at home and that they would recommend the community.

Care quality and staff: The strongest theme across reviews is the quality of the caregivers and nursing/medicine staff. Many reviewers reported staff as attentive, patient, and efficient, with an effective medication team and staff willing to coordinate special needs such as dialysis transportation. Memory care was singled out repeatedly for excellence, with families reporting that their relatives are doing well and receiving loving care. At the same time, staffing shortages and turnover appear repeatedly as a significant concern: these shortages have caused intermittent gaps in coverage, inconsistent care experiences, and, in some cases, the dining room being closed. Communication lapses and inconsistent staff accounts were also reported, which can exacerbate family concerns and make care coordination more stressful.

Facilities and cleanliness: The physical facility and common spaces are generally described as nice, lovely, and pristine in some accounts. Bright rooms, orderly spaces, and an attractive interior are noted strengths. However, not all reviews agree — a subset of reviewers reported cleanliness issues in resident rooms, a need for deep cleaning, and even unpleasant odors at times. These mixed reports suggest variability in housekeeping and room maintenance that may correlate with staffing levels or episodic problems rather than the physical plant itself.

Dining, services, and activities: Dining receives mixed but generally favorable feedback. Many reviewers liked the food and found dining servers friendly, but there were operational disruptions tied to staffing shortages — specifically, intermittent dining room closures. The community offers a range of ancillary services that reviewers valued: physical therapy, a beauty shop, dermatology availability, pediatrics mentioned (likely indicating visiting clinicians), and activities like bingo and holiday parties that foster social life. Several reviewers also highlighted the staff’s willingness to assist with insurance and care coordination, and an efficient medicine staff was appreciated.

Management, costs, and operational concerns: Several reviews raised concerns about management and leadership, with at least one reviewer involving an ombudsman and expressing awareness of state inspection scores in Alabama. Pricing is a recurring point: reviewers noted a roughly 10% price increase since 2022 and described the community as higher-cost. Some families found the move process stressful and expensive, and adjustment to the community took time for certain residents. Pharmacy and billing issues were specifically cited — notably billing on a 30-day cycle when 90-day prescriptions were expected — which indicates administrative/process problems that impact families and residents.

Patterns and takeaways: The reviews paint a picture of a facility that, at its best, provides outstanding memory care, compassionate staff, social engagement, and a pleasant living environment. The most significant recurring negatives are staffing shortages and turnover, which lead to service inconsistencies (including dining closures), occasional cleanliness problems, communication gaps, and administrative issues such as pharmacy billing. Leadership and management responsiveness were questioned by some reviewers, and cost increases have been noted. Prospective families should weigh the strong caregiving and social benefits against the operational variability tied to staffing and administration. Asking about current staffing ratios, recent state inspection results, management turnover, housekeeping protocols, and pharmacy procedures would help clarify whether the episodic issues reported have been addressed.

    About The Charlotte

The Charlotte offers many options for older adults who need different levels of help, from active independent living to assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, and continuing care all in one place, and folks who live here don't have to worry about things like keeping up a house, cooking, or finding a ride thanks to services like safety checks, help with chores, and scheduled transportation. The buildings have a range of living spaces designed for comfort and convenience, with handicap-accessible features and Wi-Fi, and common areas shown in many pictures include a dining room, a beauty shop, and spaces for activities like bingo and holiday gatherings. Seniors who need specialized care, like those with Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia, can join the Reflections memory care program, where certified dementia practitioners use person-centered care and create routines and therapies that reduce confusion, help manage wandering, and encourage staying active with family visits as a big part of treatment. Experienced staff offer compassionate, tailored plans for care, so each resident gets just the right help with daily needs, and this is true for the assisted living side too, where people get individualized help but still have plenty of chances to be independent and do things for themselves. There's restaurant-style dining every day, award-winning wellness and social programs, and visits from health specialists such as dermatologists and podiatrists, plus concierge services if residents need to make appointments or handle other tasks. The Charlotte is run by Senior Living Communities and has won several national awards for its approach to wellness, team development, and care focused on each person. The community stays connected to families and makes sure people have the support they need to enjoy their days, whether they're joining in social activities, getting therapy, or just relaxing in their own space. It sits next to the Atrium Health campus, which means convenient access to healthcare if the need arises. The business office connects residents and their families with information, advisors, travel planning services, and other support, helping everyone stay organized and informed about choices and directions. Floor plans and amenities let each person pick the right fit, and the whole place seems set up so older adults can stay active, safe, and as independent as possible for as long as possible.
