    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: Reviews indicate a mixed experience at Greenbrier of Fairmont. Many family members and residents describe a welcoming atmosphere, a small‑town, low‑bustle location close to Lumberton, NC, and a range of services that include a dedicated memory‑care unit. At the same time, several reviewers raised operational concerns that suggest variability in performance across shifts or units.

Care and staff: The facility is frequently described as having friendly, helpful and responsive staff who communicate with families and keep them informed. Multiple families highlighted positive staff–resident interactions and reported that their loved ones feel comfortable. However, other comments describe inconsistent professionalism and concerns about staff conduct and tone; this variability points to uneven staff performance or supervision. There are also remarks indicating gaps in clinical incident response and family communication following serious events, which prospective families should clarify when evaluating the facility.

Dining and activities: Dining receives generally favorable comments about food quality and meal satisfaction. The activities program is characterized as active and varied, with opportunities for outdoor activities when weather permits. Reviewers who praised the program noted that it contributes to an enjoyable daily experience for residents.

Facilities and maintenance: Several reviewers praised cleanliness and a fresh odor in the building, but this is balanced by statements about maintenance needs and deferred upkeep. Maintenance‑related shortcomings appear to be an operational area for improvement. There is also at least one allegation of missing personal items, which aligns with broader concerns about personal‑property safeguards.

Management and notable patterns: Leadership and management perceptions are mixed. Some families expressed confidence and satisfaction, while others voiced frustration with management responsiveness and interactions with specific administrators. A small number of reviewers contemplated regulatory escalation after adverse experiences, emphasizing the importance of transparent incident handling and clear escalation pathways.

Practical considerations: Prospective residents and families may benefit from an in‑person tour focused on staffing patterns, how the facility handles and documents incidents, personal‑property safeguards, maintenance schedules, and sample menus and activity calendars. Observing staff–resident interactions and asking for specifics on memory‑care staffing ratios and communication protocols will help clarify the variability documented in reviews.
