    Compassionate care but management failures

My experience was mixed. The nurses, CNAs and office staff were compassionate, knew residents by name, and provided skilled, personalized care that gave our family peace of mind. But under new management I saw inconsistent communication, long call-light waits, shared/unclean rooms and troubling staff/management behavior (I even suspected fake positive ratings); given the cost, I would be cautious and would not confidently send my family here until leadership and regulatory issues are fixed.

    Summary review

The reviews for Golden Years Nursing Home are highly polarized, showing a clear split between strong praise for individual caregivers and serious concerns about systemic issues. On the positive side, many reviewers repeatedly highlight attentive, compassionate staff — nurses, CNAs, and office personnel — who provide skilled, personalized care, know residents by name, and follow up frequently. Several accounts praise a seamless admissions experience (one staff member named Sasha is mentioned by name), good physician bedside manner, proactive administration at times, and strong communication during the COVID period. These reviewers often recommend the facility for both short-term rehab and long-term care and describe feeling reassured about their loved ones’ care.

Conversely, a substantial number of reviews describe troubling operational and safety-related problems. Common complaints include slow call light response times and poor overall responsiveness from staff. Multiple reviews allege verbal and emotional abuse and describe emotional neglect, with at least one review explicitly warning “do not send your family here.” There are also reports of inconsistent communication between shifts or staff members, dietary restrictions enforced in ways that conflict with resident requests, and residents experiencing depression. The presence of shared wards housing three residents is noted as a negative for privacy and comfort.

Management and workplace culture appear to be a major source of dissatisfaction for some reviewers. Several posts describe a change in administration that led to firings for lateness, long mandatory shifts or overtime, and staff feeling mistreated or “kicked to the curb.” A few reviews claim management dishonesty, possible fake positive ratings generated by insiders, and even calls for state regulatory intervention due to cleanliness and safety concerns. At the facility level, comments are mixed: while some reviewers commend the decor and express gratitude for excellent care, others report foul odors, dirty conditions, and an overall unprofessional atmosphere that contradicts the 4–5 star characterizations.

Taken together, the reviews suggest a complex picture: Golden Years Nursing Home can provide compassionate, high-quality hands-on care according to many families and former patients, but there are recurring operational and managerial issues that have led to serious complaints and allegations by others. The most frequently mentioned strengths are individualized attention, dedicated CNAs and nurses, and effective clinical care in many cases. The most frequently mentioned weaknesses are slow response times, inconsistent communication, allegations of abuse, questionable management practices, and concerns about cleanliness and value.

Because of the polarized nature of the feedback, potential residents and family members should treat both the positive and negative comments as meaningful. Specific red flags to explore during a visit or inquiry include call-light response times, staff turnover and morale, rooming arrangements (shared wards), dietary accommodations, incident and complaint histories, and recent changes in administration. Conversely, when touring, look for evidence of the praised strengths: staff engagement with residents, individualized care plans, and consistent follow-up. The reviews do not present a uniform picture; they indicate that experiences at Golden Years Nursing Home may vary considerably depending on timing, staffing, and management, so in-person verification and direct questioning are warranted.

    About Golden Years Nursing Home

Golden Years Nursing Home sits in a quiet country setting that's easy to get to from I-95, and since opening in 1965 has focused on skilled nursing and rehabilitation care for seniors and others needing support after illness or surgery, so you'll find a place where registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, certified nursing assistants, and a team of therapists provide care around the clock, including IV therapy, wound care, pain management, tracheostomy care, and help with incontinence or fall prevention, and they also have specialized programs for memory care, palliative and hospice care, and assisted living. Folks can stay short-term for rehab between hospital and home, or long-term when daily living needs call for it, with private and semi-private rooms, some with features like full kitchens and modern furniture, and you'll see staff who look after safety, such as by regularly checking equipment like wheelchairs for wear or loose parts and responding to little things before they become big problems. There's a therapy gym and an Activities of Daily Living suite where people work on getting back strength, balance, speech, and mobility with things like electrical stimulation, diathermy, ultrasound, and everyday task practice, and speech and occupational therapy are available when needed, with care plans made just for each person so they can regain skills and avoid more hospital stays. Golden Years has a high A+ inspection score that's been steady over the years, although the overall grade is well below average at a D, so it's good to know both sides. The company is for-profit and part of Liberty Health, a family business that runs other care places too, and you see their approach in daily life with full-time physician coverage and special services including geriatric psychiatry and podiatry. Residents can bring some pets, enjoy daily social activities like music or light exercise, and relax in sunlit alcoves, common rooms, or outside on patios and in garden areas, while things like salon services, housekeeping, laundry help, room service, internet, TV in some rooms, and transportation round out the daily support, making it easier to focus on enjoying days rather than chores. Some rooms have bright lounges and outdoor seating, and the community welcomes people who want a quieter country environment but need skilled and attentive care, with staff who've been described as extremely nice and focused on keeping the place clean and comfortable.
