    Beautiful, cozy facility, neglectful care

I chose this place because it's close to home and it's beautiful, homey and cozy - lovely courtyard, divided shared rooms for privacy (shared bathroom) and activities that encourage socializing. Staff are friendly and plentiful and care can be attentive, but they were often unresponsive to calls and inconsistent in communicating with family. I experienced what I consider severe neglect and strict COVID visitation limits; while some residents seemed happy and the facility feels secure, I would not recommend placing a loved one here.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in these reviews is mixed and divided between clear positives and serious concerns. Several reviewers describe Franklin House as an attractive, homey, and cozy place with a courtyard and garden, a sense of safety, and active social programming. Positive comments emphasize a convenient location close to family, friendly and seemingly ample staff, attentive care in some cases, privacy benefits created by room divisions in shared rooms, and residents who appear happy. Some reviewers explicitly say they would recommend the facility, indicating satisfaction with day-to-day life and activities.

However, these positive impressions are counterbalanced by strong negative reports that raise serious red flags. Multiple reviews describe unresponsive staff who fail to return phone calls and inconsistent communication with relatives. More alarmingly, there are allegations of severe neglect and explicit warnings from at least one reviewer not to place a loved one at the facility. COVID-era visitation restrictions are noted and contributed to family distress in some accounts; this factor appears both as a direct complaint and as a context that may have exacerbated communication and oversight problems.

When examining staff and care quality, the pattern is inconsistent: some accounts praise attentive caregivers and ample staffing, while others report unresponsiveness and neglect. This split suggests variability over time, between shifts, or among individual residents' experiences. The facility's social environment and activity programming are described positively, with staff encouraging social interaction, but those positives do not fully offset the more severe allegations about neglect and communication breakdowns for some families.

Facilities and living arrangements come across as generally favorable: the property is described as beautiful and cozy, with outdoor space and a layout that can provide some privacy in shared rooms via room division. At the same time, shared bathrooms are noted and may be a comfort or privacy concern for some residents and families. There is no information in the provided summaries about dining quality, specific medical or clinical care details, costs, or regulatory/inspection history, so those areas remain unassessed based on these reviews alone.

Management and communication emerge as the most recurrent concerns. Repeated mentions of unanswered phone calls, inconsistent updates to relatives, and explicit warnings indicate systemic communication problems that could reflect leadership, staffing practices, or pandemic-related strain. Given the coexistence of strong positive remarks and severe negative allegations, a likely interpretation is that experiences at Franklin House vary considerably by unit, staff on duty, time period, or individual resident needs.

In summary, Franklin House presents a mixed profile: notable strengths in atmosphere, outdoor space, social programming, and positive caregiver interactions for some residents, alongside troubling reports of poor communication and serious neglect from others. Prospective families should weigh both sets of feedback, request recent references, ask about current visitation and communication policies, inquire about how the facility addresses complaints and staffing shortages, and, if possible, visit in person to observe operations and speak with current residents and families before making placement decisions.

    About Franklin House

Franklin House gives seniors a place to live where comfort and care matter every day, and folks coming to visit have customer parking out front so family and friends don't have to worry about finding a spot, and the whole community's made to be wheelchair accessible so residents with walkers or wheelchairs can get anywhere they need without a fuss, and you walk in to find cool air conditioning that helps everyone feel a little better in the summer, with private bathrooms in the resident rooms, cable TV, kitchenettes for simple meals or snacks, a telephone, Wi-Fi, and furniture already set up so moving in feels more like settling, not starting over. The facility's easy to move around in and has a lot of common spaces, including a dining area where meals come out restaurant-style, meals prepared by a professional chef who's careful about allergies and special diets, and the dining room's set up to encourage folks to gather and talk, not just eat on their own. There's also an on-site movie theater, an arts room, a space for music programs, and a community activity room, so it's pretty common to hear music or see people heading to a movie night or a group activity, since organized events and resident-run activities fill the schedule most days, and there are walking paths, a garden, and good outdoor common spaces that let folks enjoy some sun or take part in outdoor programs.

Franklin House offers a range of care, though what type depends on what each person needs, with assisted living for those who want to stay active but could use help getting dressed, transferring, bathing, and handling daily tasks, plus medication management, a 24-hour call system, help with moving in, housekeeping, laundry, and even dry cleaning. They're also set up to handle dementia and memory care, so people with Alzheimer's or other types of memory loss have support in a safe, supervised part of the community, and there are memory care programs that aim to keep folks calm and connected. Respite programs let families get a break if a loved one needs short-term or temporary care, and skilled nursing and 12-16 hour nursing services mean medical needs can be met on-site, even for more complex health situations, with personalized care that tries to fit each resident's unique experience.

Franklin House works to accept Medicaid funding, and the staff focuses on helping residents lead a purposeful, vibrant life, with a special approach to assisted living and memory care that gets tailored as needs change. There's an emergency alert system for safety, a concierge service for things that come up day to day, balanced meals, help with physical therapy, rehabilitation, and non-drug pain support, and programs that encourage vision health and holistic well-being, including aromatherapy. The staff aims to help every resident feel comfortable, whether that means offering inclusive care options or helping someone find independence through the community's different programs. Franklin House also keeps up with technology, so families can see pictures and take virtual tours to get a feel for the place before coming in.
