    Good care but safety concerns

I moved my mother here because the grounds are beautiful, the building is very clean, meals are tasty, and care/therapy and transportation are conveniently on-site with affordable, all-inclusive pricing. The facility is older and worn in places (carpeting, exterior, communal bathrooms) and many rooms lack call buttons - I worry about safety, theft and missed items. Weekday staff I've found friendly and attentive, but staffing is inconsistent on weekends and several staff interactions felt rude or unprofessional; management needs serious improvement. Activities are limited but sometimes well tailored, and low occupancy means more attention for residents. Overall I'm conflicted: good food, social residents and convenient care, but I wouldn't fully recommend it until safety and staffing issues are fixed.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is mixed but leans positive about care quality and affordability, while repeatedly flagging facilities, safety, and staff-consistency concerns. Many reviewers highlight that Foundation Senior Living offers good, budget-friendly care with an all-inclusive flat fee structure, on-site therapy, and transportation to medical appointments. Several families reported that their loved ones are well cared for, have social connections, and enjoy the meals; one specifically praised “beef tips over rice.” Newer locations receive strong praise for cleanliness, attractive surroundings, and the extra attention that comes with lower occupancy. New ownership was also noted by multiple reviewers as making positive changes.

Care and staff are a common strength but not uniformly so. A sizable portion of reviewers described staff as kind, friendly, and attentive, saying residents are safe, well cared for, and receive better staffing levels than previous placements. That said, there are also multiple, specific complaints about staff behavior and consistency. Some reviewers reported rude or unprofessional interactions (with a few staff members named in complaints), belligerent behavior, and incidents that caused distrust—such as live social-media activity on work grounds. Weekend staffing inconsistency and difficulty retaining an activities director were mentioned repeatedly, producing variable resident experiences depending on location and day of week.

Facility condition and safety are prominent themes. Several reviews note older buildings with worn carpeting, faded exteriors, and old-style communal bathrooms—features that reviewers feel need renovation or updating. Conversely, a few locations are newly opened and described as beautiful and very clean. A critical safety-related complaint that appears multiple times is the absence of call buttons in rooms and bathrooms, which reviewers explicitly labeled a safety concern. Additional safety and security worries include reports of items going missing (“sticky fingers”) and people loitering in front of the building, which some families found disconcerting.

Dining and activities produce mixed feedback. Meals are often described positively—tasty and varied in some locations, and specific entrees can be requested a day in advance. However, other reviewers noted limited or repetitive menu options and asked for more diversity. Activities are a relative strength at some sites, where staff tailor programs and offer a generous calendar that fosters social connections; yet other reviews lament limited outings, difficulty keeping an activities director, and a desire for more engaging programming overall.

Management and policy issues are a recurring concern for several reviewers. While some praise new ownership for improvements, others express distrust or specific complaints about management decisions and behavior. A few reviews included strong negative language—calling the facility unacceptable or stating they would not recommend it—and mentioned troubling behaviors such as staff appearing to misrepresent the facility to outsiders or threatening to move difficult residents to another facility (named in one review). These more severe reports amplify family concerns about transparency, safety, and leadership accountability.

In summary, Foundation Senior Living appears to offer a cost-effective option with solid care, convenient on-site services, and opportunities for social connection—particularly in newer or recently updated locations. However, prospective residents and families should weigh facility-specific conditions (older vs. new buildings), confirm the presence of safety equipment such as call buttons, ask about security measures for personal belongings, and probe staffing patterns (especially weekends) and the activities program. It would also be prudent to discuss leadership, staff training, and complaint-resolution procedures to address the management and professionalism concerns raised in some reviews. Visiting multiple times (including weekends), touring the specific building under consideration, meeting direct-care staff, and checking references from current families will help determine whether a particular Foundation Senior Living location aligns with a family’s priorities and safety expectations.

    About Foundation Senior Living

Foundation Senior Living sits in Garner, North Carolina, in a three-story building that has 82 private studios and companion rooms, along with safety features like a sprinkler system and handicap accessibility, and the building's got washers and dryers, maintenance service, and even kitchens or kitchenettes for residents who want to do their own cooking, but of course there's also resort-style dining with three fresh meals a day served in nice dining rooms where folks can gather and linger over their meals. This place offers a mix of care including independent living so older adults can keep up an active lifestyle, assisted living for seniors who need some help each day with things like dressing and bathing, and memory care for those with special cognitive needs, and if someone needs more advanced services, there are nursing home options and skilled medical care available right there, with in-house registered nurses and medication management, and they even do proactive fall assessments to help keep everybody safe.

The care here is patient-focused, which means they pay attention to each resident's needs and make personalized plans-there's support for day-to-day living, specialized programs to help with memory loss, and personal care assistants around to help out, plus there's outpatient physical therapy and all kinds of health and wellness programs, so folks can get stronger or get help recovering from any injuries. If someone's worried about getting hurt, there are medical alert systems, and for those needing transportation, rides to appointments or outings are part of the deal, so no one's stuck inside if they don't want to be.

For comfort and enjoyment, the facility's got plenty going on, with fitness centers, wellness amenities, salons and barbershops, arts and crafts, recreation, clubs for hobbies, religious services, and even guest parking for when family or friends stop by; some folks like to spend time in the activity rooms, while others prefer to join one of the social groups or head out on organized community outings. The rooms themselves range from studios to one- and two-bedroom layouts, and there are affordable options that include senior apartments, condos, and townhomes, all with cable TV, Wi-Fi, and cozy spaces where people can live on their own or with a companion if that's more comfortable. Pets are welcome, too, which means people don't have to give up their animals when they move in.

Residents get most chores covered, like weekly housekeeping, laundry and dry cleaning, and room maintenance, which makes things easier, and there are kitchenettes for the folks who still want to cook. The community tries to keep things affordable, and they accept long-term care insurance for those who have it. Technology is present in the form of senior-specific cell phones, internet plans, and cable packages, while health and security are taken care of with home security and even ID theft protection. Everything is tailored to meet the needs of older adults, and the goal here is to provide a welcoming and supportive environment, where folks are treated with honesty, compassion, and care, without rushing or cutting corners, just making sure every resident is looked after as their needs change over time.
