    Friendly staff, clean, some concerns

I placed my loved one here and overall we're pleased: staff are overwhelmingly friendly, helpful and compassionate, the food is excellent, the facility is clean, bright and well-kept, and there are plenty of activities to keep residents engaged. Downsides: standard rooms are small (some shared baths), the community can be understaffed, and management/ admissions communication has been spotty and sometimes rude - there were even isolated cleanliness complaints I worried about. Good care and rehab resources - I'd recommend it if you can afford the fees, but insist on clear answers about staffing and cleanliness before committing.

    About Brookdale Union

Brookdale Union sits in an intimate, single-story building with 40 private suites, each one larger than most in the neighborhood, so folks have good space to call their own, and since everything's on one floor, people with limited mobility can get around easier, which helps when staff are offering help with bathing, dressing, medicine, and moving from place to place, all of which they do with care since some staff have worked here more than 12 years and really get to know the residents. Residents use private apartments in a range of styles and sizes, and throughout the building there are home-like living rooms, comfortable activity spots, and outdoor patios where families gather or visitors chat, so the place feels more like a home than an institution. The community is family-oriented and welcomes pets, making it easy for people to keep a familiar routine during this stage of life. Meals get served in a dining room that's got a nostalgic look, and the menus feel like what people are used to eating, while the kitchen staff tries to keep everyone happy with different choices each day. Security stays a top priority with round-the-clock response and health staff always ready for emergencies, and internet security, for those who need it, uses cookies and Cloudflare features to keep personal information safe.

Brookdale Union stands as a continuing care retirement community, which means it offers a wide range of living and care options all on the same campus, such as independent living for those who like to stay active and social, assisted living services for people who want a helping hand with everyday tasks, memory care for folks with Alzheimer's or other types of dementia, and skilled nursing care for anyone needing more medical attention, along with at-home care when necessary, so once someone moves in, they don't have to move again if their needs change. This approach runs alongside regular service plan reviews and assessments where staff talk with residents and their families to make sure care plans match each person's current needs, whether that's help with grooming and hygiene, housekeeping, transportation, or keeping track of medicine. People stay engaged with resort-style amenities, plenty of activities, dining options, pet-friendly policies, signature programs, healthy events, and community blogs, giving structure to daily life.

There's a focus on safety with secured living spaces, and the whole campus is designed to make things as easy and home-like as possible, so even the newer internet features, like Meta AI, Meta Pay, Ray-Ban Meta, and Meta Quest, along with social tools from Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, and Threads, are built into the setup if residents want or need them for communicating with friends and family. Brookdale Union believes in personalizing each resident's experience, helping them keep their independence as long as they wish, and supporting them during any health changes that come along, making wellness a core part of community life from day to day.

    About Brookdale

Brookdale Union is managed by Brookdale.

Brookdale Senior Living Inc. (NYSE: BKD) is the largest senior living operator in the United States, managing over 640 communities with capacity for approximately 59,000 residents across 41 states and employing around 36,000 associates. Founded in 1978 and publicly traded since 2005, Brookdale solidified its market leadership through major acquisitions including American Retirement Corporation (2006) and Emeritus Senior Living (2014), making it the only national full-spectrum senior living company. Headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee, Brookdale has topped the American Seniors Housing Association's ASHA 50 list and Argentum's largest providers list for multiple consecutive years.

The company's comprehensive care continuum includes independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, and continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs). Brookdale's signature Clare Bridge program, developed over 30 years ago by dementia-care experts, provides specialized Alzheimer's and dementia care through two distinct levels: Clare Bridge communities for comprehensive memory support and the Clare Bridge Solace program for advanced-stage dementia residents. The program is recognized by the Alzheimer's Association® for incorporating evidence-based Dementia Care Practice Recommendations and features secure environments, enclosed courtyards, Daily Path programming with six structured activities daily, and the InTouch technology platform offering personalized brain-stimulating games and therapeutic content.

Brookdale's holistic Optimum Life® wellness approach balances six dimensions—Purposeful, Physical, Emotional, Social, Spiritual, and Intellectual—implemented through signature programs including B-Fit (eight exercise class options), Brain Fit (mental fitness workouts), My Life Story (resident storytelling), EngagementPlus (interest-based connections), Growing Together (collaborative learning), and The Ageless Spirit (kindness and gratitude practices). The Embrace Family Partnership provides caregiver education and support for families of memory care residents.

The company's Brookdale HealthPlus® care coordination model, winner of the 2024 Argentum Best of the Best Award placing it among the top 1% of operators, is a technology-enabled healthcare service featuring dedicated RN Care Managers who proactively manage residents' health, coordinate care transitions, and help prevent avoidable hospitalizations. Communities using HealthPlus report 78% fewer urgent care visits, 36% fewer hospitalizations, and 63% more completed annual wellness visits. The Personal Solutions program delivers hygiene products, medications, and daily necessities directly to residents' doors with discreet packaging and monthly billing convenience.

Following a strategic divestiture of its home health and hospice operations to HCA Healthcare (completed December 2023), Brookdale now focuses exclusively on senior living operations while maintaining its position as the industry's largest operator, committed to its mission of enriching lives with compassion, respect, excellence, and integrity.
