    Homey rooms staff issues safety

I have mixed feelings. The rooms are homey, large and clean with big windows, a patio and attentive in-room care - some nurses and staff were amazing, the food/nutrition and activities were good, and visits are convenient. But I also encountered rude/unprofessional staff (one named April), a frustrating director and poor communication about health updates, and I'm worried about safety - unsupervised outdoor access, trespassing/homeless issues and reports of falls and serious infections - so I'd be cautious about placing a loved one here.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment from these reviews is mixed but leans toward generally positive resident care with important and recurring safety and management concerns. Many reviewers emphasize compassionate, loving, and attentive caregivers, frequent in-room checks, and staff who provide good end-of-life care. Multiple accounts praise the facility for being clean, well-staffed at times, and convenient for visitors. Amenities that come up repeatedly as strengths include large, homey rooms with big windows, an outdoor patio area, personalization options for rooms, active social programming (bingo, bands, music), physical therapy services, and a recently noted nutritionist contributing to food variety. Several reviewers call out the food and dining experience as acceptable or fine, and some describe the community as a hidden gem in Hendersonville.

However, these positive reports coexist with a set of serious and concrete concerns that appear in several reviews. A subset of reviewers report unprofessional or disrespectful staff behavior, citing a specific staff member by name and describing interactions as defensive, lacking compassion, and even laughing at family concerns. There are complaints that some staff do "as little as possible," and management (including the director) is described as frustrating or unhelpful. Several reviews note inconsistent staff quality — i.e., some nurses are caring while others are not — which suggests variability in training, oversight, or staffing continuity.

Safety and clinical issues are the most alarming themes. Multiple reviews describe inadequate supervision that contributed to resident falls, and some mention severe medical incidents such as MRSA, sepsis, wheelchair dependence, and even death. One summary explicitly mentions a potential elder care complaint. There are also security concerns related to outdoor access: reviewers mention unsupervised outdoor access for residents and the presence of a homeless camp or trespassers on or adjacent to the property, with no-trespassing signs posted. These comments raise questions about perimeter security, supervision of residents who may wander, and the facility's ability to keep residents safe from external threats.

Facility and environment feedback is mixed. On the positive side, rooms are described as large, clean, and homey, and the outdoor patio area is valued. On the negative side, several reviewers note the decor is plain and "not as nice as other places," and some mention affordability as an issue or offer a mixed impression of value. Activities and therapy options (bingo, bands, music, physical therapy) are recurring positives that support resident engagement and quality of life.

Communication and family engagement are another area of divergence: while some visitors find staff friendly and the location convenient, others report that staff will not share health updates without the resident's express permission and that management is defensive when concerns are raised. One review specifically calls out unprofessional communication and the potential need for formal complaint action.

In summary, the Gardens of Hendersonville garners multiple strong endorsements for compassionate caregiving, clean and roomy living spaces, active programming, and supportive end-of-life care. At the same time, there are repeated and serious allegations around inconsistent staff behavior, managerial defensiveness, safety lapses (falls, infections), and on-site security issues involving trespassers. Prospective families should weigh the positive day-to-day care experiences and amenities against the documented safety and communication concerns; these mixed reports suggest variability in outcomes that may depend on staffing shifts, individual staff members, or specific unit oversight.
