    Warm community inconsistent food costly

I toured Cadence and overall liked it - warm, friendly and knowledgeable staff, very clean, home-like atmosphere, roomy bright apartments with safety features, and lots of activities, outings and helpful amenities. Staff know residents by name and communication/app updates are useful. My concerns: food is often inconsistent/poor, there's frequent staff/management turnover and occasional weekend understaffing or lapses, and the pricing is high. I'd recommend it if you want an active, caring community but plan to stay involved and advocate for your loved one.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment for Cadence Huntersville is mixed but leans positive on culture, activities, and facility appearance while raising consistent concerns about staffing, management stability, food, and occasional episodes of poor care. Many reviewers emphasize the warmth and compassion of direct care staff, frequent and varied activities, and a bright, clean, well-appointed building. Multiple families described a family-like atmosphere where staff learn residents’ names, provide personalized attention, and create social programming (music, crafts, exercise classes, outings, family dinners) that keeps residents engaged and happy. Memory care received particular praise in many reviews for helping residents transition and providing peace of mind to families. The facility’s physical attributes — spacious studios, two windows in some rooms, walk-in showers, remodeled dining room, salon/barbershop, exercise and crafts rooms, and good natural light — are repeatedly complimented.

Staff and caregiving are a central strength but also a source of variability. Numerous reviewers call out “fantastic” or “amazing” staff members who are kind, patient, and attentive; these caregivers are credited with rapid hospital-to-facility transitions, good family communication via apps like Caremerge, and skillful handling of special diets and therapies (OT/PT). At the same time, there is a recurring pattern of staff turnover and management changes that undermines consistency. Several families reported reliance on agency staff, weekend and night shortages, and a learning curve with new hires. These staffing instabilities produced concrete negative outcomes for some residents in reviewers’ accounts, ranging from delayed call-button responses and missed housekeeping to more serious hygiene and neglect reports in a few cases. Because of these polarized experiences, many families say they had to be active advocates to maintain expected standards of care.

Dining and housekeeping reviews are strongly mixed. A number of reviews praise the chef’s engagement, attractive dining room renovations, and delicious meals with multiple options. Conversely, many others report flavorless food, small portions, missing condiments, and unacceptable kitchen performance on some shifts. Housekeeping is similarly inconsistent: while a majority report weekly housekeeping and immaculately clean rooms and common areas, there are several troubling anecdotes of bathrooms not being cleaned for months, sheets not changed, and other lapses. These discrepancies often appear tied to staffing levels and staff turnover, suggesting variability rather than a uniform standard.

Management, communication, and operational issues appear repeatedly. Several families found move-in paperwork disorganized and experienced multiple trips to complete forms. Management turnover and perceived lack of supervision were noted by multiple reviewers; some described administration as friendly but unable to retain or properly supervise nursing staff. A minority of reviews were strongly negative about professionalism, describing rude administration or a failure to advocate for residents. Positive counterpoints include reports of responsive management, improved conditions after ownership or leadership changes, and strong activity staff who work hard to keep residents engaged.

Safety and security are both praised and questioned. Reviewers noted useful safety features (grab bars, call buttons, accessible bathrooms) and felt the layout was wheelchair-friendly. However, a few families raised concerns about the lack of a secured memory-care unit for residents who wander at night, and some said the community was “not secure enough.” Additionally, there are isolated but serious accounts of residents being moved out or denied residence for medical reasons (for example, oxygen use), and an anecdote involving an ER physician’s alarm at a resident’s neglected appearance. Such incidents are relatively rare in the dataset but carry high weight for families assessing risk.

Value and recommendation are split. Many reviewers said they would highly recommend Cadence Huntersville, citing wonderful staff, robust activities, and a comfortable environment that improved their loved ones’ quality of life. Others felt the price was too high given inconsistent care or poor food and housekeeping, with a small number explicitly advising against the community. Several reviews also suggested that quality improved under new owners or new leadership in some cases, while other reviewers noted deterioration tied to turnover.

Practical takeaways for prospective families: Cadence Huntersville offers a warm, activity-rich, and attractive environment with many caring staff members and strong memory-care capability. The community can provide excellent social, therapeutic, and day-to-day living experiences for residents, particularly when staffing is stable. However, families should be prepared to monitor staffing patterns, ask specifics about weekend and night coverage, clarify housekeeping and dining service expectations, and confirm security arrangements for residents with wandering risks. Using the communication tools (Caremerge) and establishing a clear point of contact can help. Because experiences vary substantially by time and staff, an in-person tour, meeting direct care staff, and checking recent references or family feedback are recommended steps before committing.
