    Clean beautiful attentive memory care

I placed my mother in the brand-new memory care unit and I'm very pleased - the facility is beautiful, spotless, and furnished, with zero-step baths, walk-in showers with benches, guard rails and a locked unit for safety plus a lovely outside courtyard. The nurses, facilities team and phenomenal physical therapist are attentive, caring and engaged in recreational therapy and daily activities; meals are improving and there are separate dining rooms for memory care and regular residents. My family and I feel comfortable with the care and value here and I highly recommend it.

    Summary of reviews

The Landings of Mills River presents a split profile in the reviews. Physically the community is new, clean, and well designed: reviewers consistently praise the attractive, open layout with high ceilings, furnished rooms, separate dining spaces for memory care and general residents, accessible bathrooms with zero-step showers and benches, and an outdoor courtyard. Several families highlighted strong rehabilitative resources, including on-site physical therapy, and described the community as offering competitive pricing and a good value relative to larger national chains.

Care and staffing responses are polarized. Many reviewers described caring, attentive staff members, excellent nurses, and a strong physical therapist; those families reported residents who were comfortable and engaged. Conversely, other reviewers described operational shortfalls consistent with understaffing: limited direct-care coverage, delays in personal-care tasks such as bathing, and uneven staff engagement across shifts. There are also multiple accounts raising concerns about medication-management practices; prospective families should verify medication-administration protocols and oversight.

Dining and activities appear inconsistent. The facility has two dining rooms and some families noted improving meals and an engaged dining environment; however, other reviewers characterized the food quality as poor or inconsistent. Activity programming exists (including recreational therapy), but several reviewers noted limited programming when census is low and that scheduled activities were not yet fully established. Ask for a current activity calendar and evidence of how programming scales with occupancy.

Operational and management patterns are a recurrent theme. Compliments about an attractive, modern building are tempered by reports of irregular housekeeping, linen mix-ups, and missing personal items; these suggest gaps in laundry, inventory, and property-tracking processes. Multiple reviewers cited a limited on-site management presence and perceived weaknesses in administrative oversight, which they linked to uneven day-to-day operations. Prospective residents and families should ask about manager on-site hours, staff turnover, training programs, and protocols for tracking belongings and linens.

In summary, the Landings of Mills River offers strong physical facilities, some highly regarded clinical staff, and value-oriented pricing, but also shows recurring operational weaknesses that have affected family experiences—principally staffing consistency, housekeeping and belongings management, dining variability, and management oversight. Families touring the community should request current staffing ratios, medication-management policies, housekeeping and laundry procedures, activity schedules at the unit census they expect, and documentation of staff training and retention to help assess whether the community’s strengths align with their care needs.
